How was your nap?
Right now I'm getting ready to rip out some carpeting. My condolences, Cynthia, I hope the rest of your day is better.
Thanks all of you. John was 77 and had been in failing health. His widow is 70 years young and a dear friend who, on occasion, can be exhausting. But I will certainly do a better job of checking in on her now that she is newly widowed. She has been busy with taking care of her husband for the past year. The service was very cool. We should all be so lucky when we die--his kids had great things to say about John. We all will miss his intelligence and wit.
right now i am resting after just getting home from playing in a donkeyball charity event. you should have seen me on the lil donkey.
uh...they are trained. not sure they necessarily enjoy it as much as munching grass in a pleasant field but they do their thing and don't seem to hate it
I was gonna make a joke, but we had this talk yesterday, so...restraint, Brittany, restraint. Was it tons o' fun?
your name is brittany? anyway....yes. fun. i am competitive but i held back. bridges outreach is a organization some friends started that bridges the gap between school and home. they have hundreds of kids in our community involved and do everything from mentoring to field trips and training. this was a fund raiser for them so it was a great cause. we gave hundreds of kids donkey rides at halftime. i fell on my butt several times as the donkeys are trained NOT to always cooperate. lots of laughs
contemplating giving up my home phone but thinking it's probably not worth the money saved - just feels wrong
Holy CRAP yesterday was a SUPER high, SUPER low, SUPER high, SUPER low, SUPER high day for me... - Facilitated a kick ass productive meeting that has been 4 months in the planning/prepping/making/talks.
- Within minutes from returning to my office after that meeting, I got a call from my doctor's office. I have diabetes (blood sugar's great, hmg A1C was high). I am a diabetic... they said I've likely been managing it well with diet up to now which is why the blood sugar was normal.
- I ran into some close family friends (parents, two sisters, hubby) on the walk to my car from the office. The youngest sister was about to have a baby!
- Because I stopped to say hi, I missed going to the bank while it was open, so I had NO cash handy to buy gas or pick up new scrips last night. UGH.
- Baby Liam was born around 9:30. He's got red brows like his mama. :) I love red headed babies.
The diabetes diagnosis must have been very hard news to hear, Heidi. I'm so sorry. But I guess it's better to know and be able to monitor the situation. As for baby Liam, sounds awfully cute.
sorry to hear you have diabetes, heidi. [insert stupid joke about sweet pictures of cute animals causing high blood sugar. nah, must have been that sweeeeet boyquarium]
Heidi, hooray for the highs, boo for the lows, and may I just say that it's pretty damn impressive that you've been managing your diabetes so well without knowing about it!
Thank you everyone (cute joke, J9... much appreciated!). At first I was a bit freaked out about the news, specifically because of my exposure/experience with diabetes. About 10 year ago, dad had been diagnosed with DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis), pancreatitis, & ended up in a diabetic coma for a few weeks and stayed in the hospital for several months. A few years before that, maternal grandfather died from complications from diabetes. . In a sense, getting that news seemed REALLY dramatic to me in that moment.
I felt much better about it after I talked with my boss, who happened to walk into the office soon after I got the news. She's a nurse, and she dispelled a lot of the fears I had about it. I think I've figured out that I have the less severe type and not the one my grandfather and dad had - for which they had to give themselves insulin shots daily and do regular finger pricks/blood sugar tests. She also dispelled the idea for me that "once you have diabetes, you have it. For life... no takeaways." I didn't realize that for some people, losing as much as 10% of weight could mean no diabetes... and a lifetime of just have to be mindful.
I'm seeing a diabetes educator on Monday. I've been trying to find a positive spin to this, and I think if anything it's strengthened my resolve to get fit/healthy... and no more procrastination. And shit, this is the kick in the butt that nothing else has been thus far. I've been taking my sweet time with moving towards healthier habits (in college, cokes>first couple of jobs, several diet cokes a day>last job, 1 diet coke in the morning>in the past year, tea or coffee in the morning or water), you know... not really committing to them. Doc asked me what would motivate me to get healthy... and I told her THIS. I do NOT want to have diabetes. So there's that.
Enough about blaaah stuff! Moving on...
As for red-headed baby... I saw him this morning. I think it's too soon to tell and the pic I saw last night may have been off in color balance. But he is soooo friggin cute! :) And his skin is so smooth and perfect. And mommy and daddy looked so tired and content. I didn't stay long. Just long enough to drop in to drop off a baby gift. New babies are the best! So long as I don't have to take them home with me. :)
Right now I'm preparing mentally to travel to California tomorrow. I usually don't have to travel on weekends, so it sucks a little. Don't get back until Sunday.
Have fun, Larry! And keep up the optimistic attitude, Heidi.
Right now, I am watching a volleyball game. Well, the shirtless guys actually.

Heidi, I'm very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. But it's good news that you have the less severe kind, and it sounds like you're going to manage it very closely. Good luck with that.
Attempting to reassemble my kitchen faucet aerator. Apparently it needs to be done a certain way.
