*looks at group rules*

no, nothing there about welcoming people.

welcome to TC, esme.

I like the name Esme. It was my alternative to Leah. Matt's was Anna.

message 5356: by [deleted user] (new)

thanks. idk, my name sounds too oldern for me, but whatevs, right?

message 5357: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments It is a nice name. I have a friend called Esmee (although she spells it a little differently). The old-fashioned sound of it is maybe part of its charm.

I had a student named Ayla. I thought that was too recent/modern sounding. I like names that sound classic.

message 5359: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Ayla is a new one for me.

i guess. i always thought esme was supposed to be spelled with two ee's, because everyone always spells it that way.

Esme makes me think of the J.D. Salinger story For Esmé – with Love and Squalor.

message 5364: by [deleted user] (new)

oh, i read that. thanks for not saying Esme from the series of unfortunate events. she was a freak, it annoys me when people compare me to her.

But she was named after the Salinger Esme. Her last name was Squalor. Also, she called everyone a cake-sniffer, which I thought was a pretty funny insult.

Welcome to TC, Esme.

message 5368: by [deleted user] (new)

thanks. yeah, i think cakesniffer is funny too. my neighbor's daughter was reading those and named her dog cakesniffer. i have no idea why.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Right now my eyes are tired of tears. I had to put my beloved mutt Grace to sleep this afternoon. The vets could not have been nicer to me or gentler to Grace. She was 16 or so (shelter dog, she'd lived a lot before coming to my door.) She was part Border Collie, part something bigger and the smartest dog I've ever had.

On a conference call with Rahm Emanuel. "If I'm elected mayor, I will take public transportation on a periodic basis." Wow, way to commit to the people!

Looking for tv footage of myself in the voting booth online.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Richard Daley isn't on the ballot this time.

...so I assume he'll win by a landslide, right?

message 5391: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24821 comments Mod
Oh so cynical. Rahm E. will win, the only question is whether he'll win outright tonight (needs 50% of vote) or, if he gets less than 50%, it goes to a runoff with the top two candidates, in April.

message 5392: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments right now i am still a little honked about someone breaking into my truck last night and stealing my XM radio. they didn't actually break in because i leave it unlocked all the time with the keys in it but this was in my drive way. they ripped out my XM controller module leaving wires and a broken mounting bracket, rifled through my console (which contained nothing except shotgun shells, wrenches and bath and body works lotion) and then went through my son's car too. just threw things around in there. you could see the tracks in the snow where they stopped in the road in front of the house, walked to each car and went through them. they left my $200 binocs on the seat. dumb ass. anyway, i am most mad about having to listen to reg FM radio...

message 5393: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Sorry to hear it Kevin. That really sucks. At least they didn't steal your truck, though.

message 5394: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Lobstergirl, it looks like you did make it onto the evening news:

message 5395: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments thanks. more about the frustration of someone invading your security than anything.

message 5396: by Jonathan (new)
