We have a cloud of scent here, too, but only because dad had chili for lunch."

How are your in-laws doing, Phil?"

Thank you for asking, Cynthia.

Dad is doing well -- he managed to warm up so he's not miserably cold all the time.

Mom is now on hospice care. There's no more chemo, and she rarely manages to get up from the bed. This week we start a new schedule with a CNA coming over three times to help her bathe, do her nails/hair and help her brush her one tooth.

My wife gives mom maybe two months. I think that could be optimistic. But so far people are handling it well, and we're talking with a social worker to help with plans for when she passes.

Phil wins the dealing with the most and doing amazingly well on a daily basis award.

message 5008: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Phil, I am a hospice volunteer. If I lived closer, I'd offer to come and sit with your mother in law, if she wanted me to. I know some good card games and a few dirty jokes. Glad you have the CNA visiting--they are really helpful with grooming stuff.

Best wishes to your family, Phil.

Phil is a saint.

ms.petra (mspetra) Phil,
I am in awe of what you and your wife are doing. I have seen a lot of elderly people just shipped off to nursing homes because the families are just too busy. It is hard, but I can only imagine the peace and comfort it is bringing to your in-laws. Thanks for being such a good example.

message 5011: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments There is no better way to honor and love someone than to help them die comfortably and on their own terms. Sometimes this happens in a nursing home, but most people would rather be at home.

message 5012: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Phil, as someone who works with a guardianship/probate attorney, I know what you're going through and I admire the heck out of you and your wife.

Phil | 11852 comments Thank you to all. Your words do help.

He's not sick too, is he?

message 5017: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11852 comments Nope. Just 84 years old with kidneys operating at about 20%. We're not sure how he'll react when mom passes. She has a fever tonight, so I'm about to leave to get some Tylenol.

I saw Sarah Jessica Parker wearing those shoes in a recent photo.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Man, those are some HIGH heels, Mary! Can you walk in them, or are they just for tv watching in?

message 5044: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I can walk in them very well on carpet or any textured surface, but slippery wooden floors are a bit tricky.

Fucking Netflix!! This disc is in shitty condition and it's ruining my movie-watching experience.

message 5045: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I hate when that happens, Mary.

message 5046: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG those heels would kill me. I am in awe Mary.
