Kristyn (kristyn007) What was you guys first impression of Dracula? I guess because I am so used to modern day vampires I was expecting him to sound better looking that what he was. I know the media portrays vampires as sexy and I guess that has stuck with me. Even bad vampires seem to be sexy in today's media. I even read in one book where the author made a point to say all of the vamps were good looking to make it easier to attract prey.

I also found it weird that he showed his pointy teeth. I am so used to reading where the vampires have learned to talk without showing their sharp canines. The whole mirror thing was a little weird to me. I understood it but you would think that when Dracula first walked into the room he would notice the mirror but he stood behind him almost like he wanted Jonathan to notice something wasn't right.

Jennifer | 285 comments See I haven't read a lot of modern day vampire books. I know I am out of touch but it's true. So this is really new to me. I agree that he seemed to want Jonathan to notice something. I can't wait to find out what happened to him. I don't know the storyline at all.

Amanda I really had a hard time picturing him at all from the description. It made me think more muppet-like than human at all. I know it is funny how we have changed in our perception of vamps.

I think that these aspects are so pointed in this rather than hidden because this was one of the first real developments of vampires.

Catherine Crook Up until the mirror situation I was not sure how much he knew about Dracula. Amanda, I can't picture him either. I only see him as a shadowed man with average features, nothing that stands out. I am super curious as to his reactions to Dracula and the realization that something is not right. Well, let me rephrase that- he felt something was wrong, the mirror just verified it. Kristyn, having read all the vamp books I have... him not eating, staying up til dawn - I would have known. lol, Wish he was dreamy. And Jennifer, you NEED to read these modern vamp books. YUM!

I can't stand the modern day stuff, but this book is fascinating to me. It reminds me very much of the mystery and suspense of The Woman in White, but with supernatural elements.
