Amber (mixiemoon) | 233 comments Ok finished Shadow Fall (Shadow, #2) by Erin Kellison and Shadowman (Shadow, #3) by Erin Kellison . Liked them well enough. Definitely the first book was better and then the third shadowman second was more of a filler for me. The story just didn't advance much.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I finished Promises (Coda Books, #1) by Marie Sexton and it was good. Really enjoyed it. Even cried some.

Starting Frat Boy and Toppy (Theta Alpha Gamma, #1) by Anne Tenino

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Read Forbid the Sea (October Daye, #0.2) by Seanan McGuire last night. Really good story.

I started the new Jhumpa Lahiri book that came out today The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri . I still have to finish ARC readings of No Wonder You Feel Like Crap! The Hidden, Deadly Connection Between Stress, Diet, and Disease by Richard Weinstein and Dying Is My Business by Nicholas Kaufmann

Rereading Hunt the Moon (Cassandra Palmer, #5) by Karen Chance and Three Days to Dead (Dreg City, #1) by Kelly Meding

Haven't read Styxx but I've read Dancing with the Devil and didn't like it. I think it's one of the worst of Keri Arthur's books

And yeah, I haven't picked it up in a day or two. I want to know what happens next but don't at the same time.

Amber (mixiemoon) | 233 comments @Margo I ended up reading Dancing With the Devil while I didn't hate it, I also didn't love it and I do agree with you that her other books were better. Hopefully the next 2 books in the series are better since I already bought them.

message 3559: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments So I got hooked to the Beyond series. So far I have read the first two books Beyond Shame and Beyond Control and am currently reading the third one Beyond Pain

The setting is dystopian, but the books remind me a bit of all the series that have a brotherhood in them - Rock Chick, DH, LOTU - except thank heavens that a character does not turn into mush in his book. Three books down and they're still not insufferable saps. Plus it is more open about sharing bodies then any of the other books - someone does not become off limits the moment they find a partner - but rather its all about doing whatever you want and with whoever you want.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Finished:
One Hell of a Ride, No Place Like Home,Married in Green by Seanan McGuire
Which are Incryptid #s 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4. I have the others and finally got Blue Light Special, but not in the mood for it yet.

Shinies, they distracted me….

Finished:
Bound by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampires, #1) by Larissa Ione

It seemed like a long book, but I think that is mostly due to being miserable because of my sinuses. :( Oh yeah, I really liked it for the most part. Then again I am an Ione fan and am still on bibliohigh from finishing it a bit ago. :)
Omg bring on Reaver already…. :(

I read the first Nikki and Michael … I have the other 2, but I haven’t read them yet and don’t know when I will. I agree that they are not her best, but they were before Riley…. I had to remind myself of the same thing when I read the Ripple Creek books she re-released also.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) tried reading Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts though I couldn't get into it. than I read Bring on the Night (WVMP Radio, #3) by Jeri Smith-Ready which was alright, bit cliché but readable.
almost finished Survivor (Alone, #2) by James Phelan which is pretty good, last book blew my mind! I have high expectations of this book!!

WVMP reminds me of the Undead series. (Undead and Unwed) have you read it?

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments If I remember right there are only 4 books in that series--a few shorts on the author's site that are the stories about how each DJ was turned.
I would go nuts if I started a series on the third book. :x You missed A LOT if you started on that one ... at least that is what my OCD ass thinks.

I read the Queen Betsy books years ago up till 7--I think that was the one--and didn't continue it. I read the blurbs for further books that I missed ... didn't miss much. that series suffers harshly with shouldhaveendedbooksagoitis. It was funny at first, then I just wanted to beat Betsy with a phone book. She whines a lot! I also didn't get the shoe thing, but I have never been a girly girl. :x I did like her Fred the mermaid series for the most part ... I was just thinking about all of that when I had gotMe, Myself and Why? (Cadence Jones, #1) by MaryJanice Davidson Pretty much most of all that I read of hers pre-dates me joining GR so I could have forgotten to add stuff.

LOL yea I felt like I missed quiet a bit picking up book 3. but oh well that happens sometimes.
though im deff interested in how each DJ was turned. Ciara's maker was a bit of a dick, she should of went with simon (or whatever his name is) he's pretty much looking after her anyways and seems like an awesome dude.

yea I thought the first few books of the Undead series were pretty hilarious but it got old pretty quick and I don't feel like i'v missed much when I stoped reading it (I also made it up to book 7). you should give Bad Blood a go. it was one of the first UF Adult books I ever read and im glad. it made me fall in love with the genre.

yea I don't know how I survived without GRs. I certainly don't know how I managed to read so many books without GRs help!!!

I just finished the first, have two and three. I REALLY liked Terrible, but...couple things made me not too happy, then it redeemed itself. Then there's Lex too...but...Terrible seems like a better choice...

Finished Frat Boy and Toppy (Theta Alpha Gamma, #1) by Anne Tenino and I totally loved it more than I expected to. So awesome.

message 3580: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments lol Lex is hits your "mysterious and ambiguous bad guy" button? I prefer Lex too, but I think Terrible is going to end up her HEA. I actually would prefer if Chess ended up alone, or left that whole world. Walked away to find her own space ;)

message 3581: by Lannister (last edited Sep 25, 2013 06:55AM) (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL, yeah, that's it exactly about Lex. I'm also pretty sure that Terrible will be the HEA ... if Stacia Kane goes down that road and I'm not convinced she will. I don't think happy endings should be assumed in Downside. I could see a Shakespearean ending where everyone dies quite easily, though. Maybe Terrible gets killed (possibly by Lex!) and Chess OD's cos she can't deal with the pain. That kind of ending is all too plausible IMO.

Must admit, much as I like Lex, I want to slap Chess every time she wanders back to him. Why, Chess? WHY???

Bump is an asshole.

message 3582: by Amber (new)

Amber (mixiemoon) | 233 comments I haven't read that series yet but I think that's on my list now. The names don't sound very imaginative tho.

message 3583: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments 'Terrible' is the worst name ever! I cringed at the start. And they use this lingo in the books that annoyed me early on, but as I kept reading I did get used to it eventually.

I think this is an amazing series, but it's not light-hearted and fluffy, so you might have to be in the right mood for it. Chess is a mess of a human being, and you want to hit her and hug her at the same time. But this makes her so very real for me, and that's why I think I feel her emotional highs so much more than many UF characters, and also why I want to strangle her when she hits her lows!

message 3584: by Margo (new)

Margo | 663 comments I've only read the first book from Downside Ghost series, Unholy Ghosts, and I remember that I've actually liked it so maybe I will go back to the series.

Right now I'm reading Fire Study, but I don't have much free time, and at the end of the day I am so tired, that I only read chapter or two and I can't focus for more then that. The book is good on it's own, but I'm to tired to finish it in one go :(

message 3585: by Aileen (new)

Aileen | 867 comments I liked Terrible because not just that he took care of Chess, but the WAY he took care of her throughout the book. Lex though...mmmmmm...(at least in the first book, since that's all I've read so far) I REALLY liked him...he does hit that "lookit me ima baaaaad boy, now lemme git in yo pants." But...there were a couple things that had me pretty close to not continuing the series (view spoiler)

message 3586: by Diane (new)

Diane (FriskyVamp) | 372 comments Downside is also one of my favorite series. I agree with most of these posts.

I just wish the author would come out with another novel and not just novela's

message 3587: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I too want the next book already....

I love Chess and Terrible ... they went through a lot of crap and he is so patient with her self destructing ass. I don't know how there could even be a HE in the series though ... beyond just existing like they do. Having a Shakespearean ending would piss way too many people off.... lol

I have always disliked Lex, he seems like a selfish douche, but it looks like it might be a cover for his feelings? That or I am just seeing crap.... I will leave the crackpot ideas to Lannister.

I actually like downside speech--prolly since I don't have to pronounce it in my head since my reader does that for me. lol

LOL! Must admit, I don't quite see Lex as selfish, or at least, he's not any more selfish than Chess.

I don't see Chess & Lex ever having a hearts and flowers relationship but I don't think either of them expect that. They're both using and exploiting each other somewhat, but because they're both aware of it, I don't see a problem. Whilst I think Lex likes Chess just fine, I don't think it's love or even a particularly deep emotional connection. It's sex and drugs and gang warfare. I can't even fault Lex when he threatens Bump and, by extension, Terrible. That's his job! Chess knows this. She's the douche who keeps going back to Lex whilst telling herself she loves Terrible. I get so angry with her when she does this, yet I also pity her, because she has this compulsion to self-sabotage anything beautiful that comes into her life because of her feelings of worthlessness. This is why she can get along with Lex just fine. It's more of a business arrangement, rather than a personal connection.

That's my take on things anyway. And sorry, but no crackpot theories here! :)

Ashleigh, ummmm, kinda but not exactly. Chess is a very different character, and her drug-addled brain leads her into situations where she probably shouldn't go! It's not as clear cut as 'Today I'm with Guy A, then tomorrow I'm with Guy B'. A more sorta realistic (real life) comparison would be someone in a relationship who got drunk and slept with their ex.

Chess has a lot of baggage.
