Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I still stink at writing reviews and I have only posted a couple @ GR. I have always been hyper critical of what I make/write so!

Tempest (MetaWars, #3) by Kelly Meding

It is super hero stuff (is there a genre for that too … guessing so), I read her drek city series and liked it so I started reading this one. Interesting way to test other genres. Don’t think I would try it with an author I didn’t like though.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments Dale, I have no writing skill whatsoever as far as reviews are concerned but I do participate in reading challenges/games that require that you write a review. It's not much but I know that I'll write a review for 2-3 books a month. Start small.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Finally read Tempest Rising (Jane True, #1) by Nicole Peeler . I realized that I had some how already read the first few pages, although I'm not sure how/when. I'm thinking a free sample off Amazon or something.

I think I'll post my thoughts on the General Book Talk thread.

Arushi | 3652 comments I finished The Great Gatsby and started The Art of War but I am also thinking of starting the Cal Leandros series again. Its a good series with no romance and I don't want to read any romance right now.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments arushi, how far have you gotten with cal leandros? it's not one of my favorites, but I did like it better as the series progressed.

message 2364: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm reading Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione . I read a short story set in this universe and really didn't like it, so I wasn't expecting to like the book. So far, so good. I find the world very interesting but Tayla and her Aegis buddies very annoying. They're all kind of flat characters in a very PNR way.

I think this is the sort of book where I'll find myself skimming some parts to get to Tayla's attitude change more quickly.

I have to read Roadkill next. The last one I read was about that thing that came out of the museum. Don't remember its name... but I think it was a red-cap?

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments @ Claire:
I love that series and the books that follow it... I think that they get better as you go along, but that is me and I am weird.
Wraith's book (3 I believe) is my favorite of the siblings's book. Sins's is good too ... but I like Wraith's smart ass mouth.

I can't remember which book this is )might be demonica or lords of deliverance) but it is what he had said to a woman who was pregnant. (I wont say who since it is sort of a spoiler), it went along the lines of "nice f*** trophy".

@ arushi:
Roadkill is the last cal book I have read and it is my favorite so far. I am looking forward to getting a hold of the next books.

How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake, #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks

I have read this series a few times, yes it can be silly, but I still like to read it if I am in the mood. I will be skipping some books though … I hate Roman’s ex-harem (atleast 98% of them since Darcy and Maggie don’t irritate me as much … the others are stupid snotty bitches) and some of the later books have them in them and I would rather avoid being irritated. Sean Whelan is still a pig-headed jackass … to bad it takes a bunch of books to even dent his thick skull a little.

I was trying to remember the other vamp series that I had read that had glowy eyes and this was one of them … they just glow red … how distracting and counter productive if you are trying to be sneaky.

Is it Tuesday yet? damnithurryup

I really like this series, but definitely didn't care for Tayla. I don't tend to like that type of heroine. They get on my nerves.

message 2371: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Yeah, but she got less obnoxious as the story progress and I ended up really liking it. I was genuinely surprised by the ending. I also liked that the bad guys had some depth.

message 2372: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I rather like how the females aren't weak annoying ho bags.

tayla--stubborn demon hunter
Roona--awesome werewolf
serena--kick ass treasure hunter
idis--kick ass angel
sin--hellooo assassin

They all start off with me wanting to throat punch them, then get better as the book progresses. :x

I am in agreement with wanting an Eidolon of your own. I felt the same way--he seems the most level headed/sane one of the bunch.

Rogue is a major douche bag ... just when you think he is gone ... he is like a case of herpes.

She is starting a new series later this year and I am pretty sure it is not in the demonica world. :( It looks interesting anyways ... I rather liked the books she wrote with a co author under another pen name too, but not as much as her books under Ione.

message 2373: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I saw something about her new series and put the first book on my TBR pile because it looked interesting. I know some people were disappointed because it's not in her Demonica world, but the concept sounded super interesting to me.

message 2374: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments ditto here

message 2375: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'll see if I can get through her Demonica series or if it fizzles out for me like BDB and Dark Hunter did.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments At least Demonica isn't nearly as long, though you do have the spin-off Riders of the Apocalypse after the 5 Demonica book and then she's going back to her Demonica series again.

message 2377: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm considered reading the Riders of the Apocalypse, but I wasn't sure if they'd be too cheesy PNR for me.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments You shouldn't read them until after the 5th Demonica book. They are related and I think you'd spoil yourself if you read them too soon.

message 2379: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments It's a good thing I read Pleasure Unbound on a whim then. I had the first Riders of the Apocalypse on tbr pile. How come the description doesn't mention that the two series are related?

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I don't know, but they are. Events in Demonica trigger the Riders of the Apocalypse series from what I know.

message 2381: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Ooh okay. I mean, it's possible I may be thinking of a different series with a very similar name. The MC of the first book is Ares, right?

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Yes. The first book is Eternal Rider and I keep calling the series by the wrong name. It's actually Lords of Deliverance. *smh* I dunno how I forgot that.

message 2383: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Oh well. You tried =p

I'll see if I can get through the Demonica books. Hopefully they don't call into the same cliched traps as BDB and DH.

message 2384: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments The 5th book in the demonica starts the lord of deliverance series ... it's all sin's fault. :P

For me getting through the demonica series went by faster than the BDB andDH series. It is one of the series that I have read a lot. I think I have read them a few more times than BDB and DH series over the years.

Be Still My Vampire Heart (Love at Stake, #3) by Kerrelyn Sparks

The cheesy silliness is putting me in a better mood. :X

"He shot her an irritated look. "This is no' a purse. 'Tis a fine, manly tradition amongst the Scots."

"What training?" Phineas gulped down more blood.
"Martial arts and fencing," Angus replied.
"Oh hell, brother, I already know how to fence things."
Ian laughed. "We mean sword fighting."
Phineas's mouth dropped open. "You mean I get one of those gargantuan mother switchblades?"

message 2392: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments She had talked about this before, I just don't remember where/when. It was when the topic of this series had come up ... I think it was you then. I forget the convo so no matter.

The 4 horsemen of the apocalypse can be good or bad and each has a seal that has to be broken in order for them to be turned evil. Ares is a person, limos's is a bowl/cup thing, and thanantos’s is thought to be his virginity. Ress's is taken care of in the last demonica book, something about a disease from something that shouldn't be or something. Sin is a female sem demon and all sems are male. (Wraith calls her a smurfette which makes me lol)

They have handlers, 1 good and 1 evil and can and can't do things ... it is an angel thing/ The fallen angel of course wants the bad horsemen so she contrives a way to trick the aegis (Bleh they are so full of themselves) to help break thanantos's seal, but don't say exactly what they are doing. I forget the details so I might get something wrong. Either way they are convinced that someone has to sleep with him and have his child (I think that that is covered, it has been a while) and they get regan to do it. So she drugs him and seduces him then traipses off to hide while germinating or whatever.
In his book it takes a while, but they get through the mess/issue it ... they were both tricked about it. That is just my opinion ... some call it rape and say that it is wrong.

I just think of it as perception, how it is presented, how it is dealt with, and how someone sees things like that.

I am pretty sure that I understand and get what she is saying.

I don't want to go into it because I will have the urge to talk about it and I feel it might lead to a big bleh discussion.

message 2393: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm going to be honest and say that I think I followed that explanation but found it rather confusing toward the end

message 2394: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Which part was confusing? I admit to not being able to explain what I am thinking very well.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I'd forgotten that Ione did something that pissed Sarah off in the second series, haha.

I finished Love the Sinner (Brooklyn Sinners, #1) by Avril Ashton and loved it. If you like hardcore M/M, this is for you.

Gonna finish up Hexed (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #2) by Kevin Hearne and start Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop

After I watch some more One Piece.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Llaph wrote: "Which part was confusing? I admit to not being able to explain what I am thinking very well."

I mean, it doesn't help that I haven't met a lot of the characters you're talking about. But I didn't follow your explanation of what could be considered rape. Whose seal is this? What handlers?

message 2397: by ♥ Ashleigh ♥ (new)

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) finished Burn Bright (Night Creatures, #1) by Marianne de Pierres , was a tad weird but overall not to bad. deff plan on reading the next book in the series.
now reading City of a Thousand Dolls (Bhinian Empire, #1) by Miriam Forster which is deff odd as well but has a promising start.

message 2398: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Thanantos's seal is thought to be his virginity. If he turns bad he becomes Death. There is an angel that helps on the good side and a fallen angel that helps on the badside. They are restricted as to what help that they can give to the horseman.

Since the aegis was tricked by the bad handler that that if Thanantos loses his virginity it will save the world. (When it is actually supposed to be the oppisite) they make a plan to seduce him and use regan (you meet her in book 3) to do so. I can't remember where it comes from but Thanantos is drugged and regan sleeps with him. So some say that that is rape since it was against his will so to speak.

Did that make sense? I am sucky sometimes about explaining things.

message 2399: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Oh! Okay, that makes more sense. Yeah, that does sound a little like rape to me.

Are the Riders a detour from the Demonica series, or are they a separate branch? (and by that I mean is Ione writing both series at once)

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments No. Lords of Deliverance is completely after Demonica, though she is going back to Demonica now that the fourth Lords of the Deliverance book is out. Reaver's book is the next Demonica book.
