Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments We're going to do an unofficial group read of Kate Daniels if you can hold off for a little while. Or is there enough interest to do it soon? I know Zeenat wanted to reread too. What do you think, guys? Would you rather wait till maybe June or start sooner? (Bearing in the mind the Cassie re-read will probably start in July). What do you think?

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I'd like to re-read, but who knows if I'll actually be able to do it.

Finished The MacKinnon Curse The Beginning (MacKinnon Curse, #0.5) by J.A. Templeton . Nice prequel.

Starting The Deepest Cut (MacKinnon Curse, #1) by J.A. Templeton

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I have some other reads lined up for the next 2 - 3 weeks. If a few people want to read along, how about reading through the month of April? Would that suit or are some of you desperate to start before then?

message 1805: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments KD reread--I think if we do a book a week, we may have to start in may... at least end of May. But I totally want to do it! I love those books and have missed them ;)

About allie beckstrom--I like those books, mainly because I really like the father/daughter angle. I really hoped that was stressed more and made more central to the story than the romance relationship. It's one I like a lot, but wouldn't call a favorite. But the book really stresses all types of relationships and I love love love Shame.

Dale--I totally understand adding 10 years. I approve of the addition to our reading lives ;) too bad that's not enough for us to get it! LOL

I am reading Black City (Black Wings, #5) by Christina Henry and then finishing up Madhouse (Cal Leandros, #3) by Rob Thurman . I don't know if I will continue much with the Cal Leandros series. It's kinda boring till the end, and I really don't like the way she writes.

Also reading The 90-Day Novel Unlock the story within by Alan Watt to help me with writing and rereading Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Grrr @ not having the 4th book to jump into. It is a good Tuesday for this month so I don’t have a shortage of new books to read though.
Moonshine (Cal Leandros, #2) by Rob Thurman
And
Madhouse (Cal Leandros, #3) by Rob Thurman

@ Lannister:

I will watch a movie or tv show that I like more than once … if it is a good show. The same goes for books, I can deal with knowing the gist of what will happen. A really good book will suck me in regardless of knowing what will happen and I will get to notice something I didn’t see before.

There are series that I have read many times and there are books which I thought were pretty good, but would not froth at the mouth to read them again. Then there are those that just plain suck and I wonder why I even bothered to read them … waste of reading time.

@ val:

I didn’t know if you did or not, I tend to just be fast at offering my opinion on stuff I have read.
I agree on if the swearing adds to the story it is okie dokie. I remember some books where it seemed like the author had a character drop the f-bomb and swear all of the time thinking it made him look tough … it was just stupid.

@ zeenat:
It seemed to me that the romance was an after thought and was just added in like it was something that had to be there. I didn’t really get it tbh, just didn’t feel right. I really like the character of Shame too … I read somewhere that the next series revolves around him and Terrik.
The main thing that makes me dislike the story is the whole “I know what is best for you” thing that is done. The memory stealing/closing is something that is just so wrong to me. If someone screws up let them learn from it, don’t steal the memory from them. That is just a free pass to do it again and I really hate people that think like that and think it is okay.
(view spoiler)
It is just not for me, I really like the Cal series….

Jax | 831 comments I went off on a bit of a tangent, and read something totally out of my usual genres...
Hell on Wheels (Black Knights, Inc., #1) by Julie Ann Walker In Rides Trouble (Black Knights Inc., #2) by Julie Ann Walker

Romance or NOT - they mentioned Special Ops + Custom motorcycles... I HAD to "see"!! :P
And they got a 3 star rating... I'd actually rate Hell on Wheels closer to maybe a 3.5?
However - In Rides Trouble was more a 2.5...
Some of the Storyline in #2 irritated me a bit.

It was a nice short, a lot of story in that little package. It is a good tide over sort of thing until like april or whatever for rogue. :(

I think I started Hell on Wheels and gave up on it, either something about it annoyed me or I found a shiney.
Probably just was not in the mood for that type of book at the time!

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Yup, I am the only one that reads stupid fast.

Winterblaze (Darkest London, #3) by Kristen Callihan

I really like this series … I sometimes found myself wanting to read the book again before I was even done the first time. I liked the previous book more than this one, but it had a werewolf as mc and me likes werewolves.
It is tech historical and I sometimes like historicals, but it isn’t bogged down with facts and stuff about living in the time or whatever. Sometimes historicals annoy me because they sometimes fall under the “research for 5 damn minutes you asshat” or “my god I got it you researched I don’t want a damn step by step lesson on how to make biscuits in late 19th century” categories.
It has pnr aspects and imo the lead males in all the books are hawt. Especially Ian….

Most people would not think about saying this, but I really wish I had a job sometimes....
That and I need to stop being a pansy-ass and work on going to school. It is no fun feeling too old to go to college and having no idea really what you want to do when you grow up ... graphic design is so out. :P

The Reformed Vampire Support Group was a good story but all I can give is a max of 3 star. The reasons are in short as followed; the story was to damn slow, the author took the charters way to damn fucking far they were a pain in the ass. Hell I've known and I know insane people as well as terrified people who were and are full of fear of what if someone finds out who they truly are. But the charters in this don't have shit on them. I keep thinking to myself if only I could climb in to the book I'd shake the hell out each of then knock the shit out of a few more. If I want to here people wine all day I'd join the the Republican party and go on Fox News. The books and TV show of Pretty Little Liars drags a little and a bit of wine but if this author of The Reformed Vampire Support Group was one in the same I'd I quit reading altogether, never watch anymore shows and unplug my computer and give it away. Anyways the plot of was great as a whole and near the very end it got better.

LOL... yup... I'm not usually in for the romancy type books... but as I said... Special ops + Bikes... and I got it for Free!
It could have been annoyance... as there was quite a bit of "misunderstanding"... I tried to ignore most of it, and tried to figure out the mystery instead, which did help.
But unfortunately Bk 2 was just a little too predictable so I didn't have anything to distract me :)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Immortal Ever After (Argeneau, #18) by Lynsay Sands
Lol @ anders first name…. I liked this book a hell of a lot more than the previous book. I am still on a book high since I just finished it, but so far I can’t think of anything that would annoy me about the book. Well, except Anders’s attitude was pretty “huh?” at the beginning.
My outlook might change later or after I have read the book again … who knows!

@ Jax:
I like all sorts of books and I have books in that sort of category that I really like and the mysteries in them are mysteries for the most part.
Figuring out a book before the mcs do is massively annoying as hell … the only thing that could possibly save that is a good author.
Predictability is stupid….

This is one of my favorite series. If you haven't taken the time to read them your really missing out. It has everything I look for in a book. Mystery, romance, paranormal, and laugh out loud funny. Violet is a character that I'd love to be bff's with.

Still hate Marsilia—check. Though I know I will dislike her more—if that is even possible—in the next book.
Still <3 Adam … will be revisiting the start to my growing crush once again.

@ Diane:
I heard Laura Lee and since I use a screen reader I was like "wtf Lora Leigh wrote a funny vamp book????"
They both actually sound the same, which is kind of weird because I can hear the difference most of the time. Screen readers are awesome for editing btw ... you would not believe how many people just run through spell check and just hit okay on the default and the wrong word is used.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments READDDD ITTTT! LOL I love that in the 4 books with Stefan, she has some kind of talk with him at the end. I just realized that. They have an interesting relationship. They aren't in love (well she's not) but they have something more than friendship.

I'M EXCITED!!! As soon as it gets in my hands I will read Midnight Blue-Light Special (InCryptid, #2) by Seanan McGuire and then Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson #7) by Patricia Briggs

message 1843: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments The relationships and people seem more realistic to me in the mercy-verse. Any hint of a triangle is not drawn out and all angsty-ish and you don't feel bad for the "losers".
I felt bad sort of for Stefan though, his relationship with mercy is special though and I dunno how many books that I have read where a relationship with a vamp does not always mean a physical sort of thing. Maybe that is wishful thinking....

I am trying not to get too excited for the next armageddon book ... the library where I get most of my books do not even have any of her books. The NLS (which is a LoC thing) have the first 3 toby books and the first armageddon book, mainly because I am thinking amazon donated the audio books.

As for Frost Burned, I have high hopes that I will be able to get it soon since she is a pretty popular author and her books usually have a history of going up close to the publishing date if not on the same day.
