Intresting, don't really get the sight switching thing after her grave sight.... I get why sort of, just she doesn't seem to be too disoriented from it, maybe she is just used to it. It would bother me more, but that is me and losing your sight ain't fun.

@Llaph - I wonder what your take would be on the whole Death and Falin thing.

About the sight - I think its mentioned that in a way the worlds superimpose one another so she can still sort of see. She is kind of used to it, plus she starts seeing shadows almost immediately. She is never completely blind, but if you say it does not seem real, i'll believe you.

As to the Death and Falin thing....
Death doesn't seem to be that much of a character to me. With how the other collectors talk about them it is too mysterious, WTF can't he tell her what is going on? It seems like high school where you get a friend to tell someone you like them, while hitting on them and not telling them why. Up to book 2 I don’t know enough about him yet.
As for Falin, sometimes he seems cocky and others he seems really vulnerable. The winter queen, really ... every book I have read with a winter queen has been one where I wish she would diaf or have rabid racoons eat her face.
I don’t know Death well enough yet, I am guessing he plays a bigger role in book 3. I feel sorry for Falin in that he is tied to the winter queen. He started off being a macho ass hat, then gets drunk or what not and is suddenly on the “get the booty from Alex” train.
If it doesn’t seem like I got enough info it is a 180 change on things. Though it is my first read and I can be dense at times….

I can sort of understand the sight thing, but the reason it makes me uncomfortable sometimes is that it is too real. I can picture it and have known people with blindness like that ... it is scary to lose your sight and get it back, they always said they were afraid it will not come back again.
It is a new thing for an author to use to add some depth to a character, a way to show that their power is not the uber powerful thing 100% of the time. If you are going to use it though you should really add more of the things that a blind person would have to deal with. Then again I tend to pick at stuff….

He keeps letting some of the other Lords treat her badly, but tells her he'll get oaths from them not to harm her, so she lets it slide. Then he tells her he's going to send her back home, has sex with her in a magic circle, then binds her with potency and starts carving sigils into her body trying to make her lose herself and give her a new name so that she'll be some kind of mindless tool/weapon for him and some of the other Lords to use to find Szerain's blade. Basically, he was planning to kill her all along to find the blade and make a permanent gate, but changes his mind when he discovers she's got some new power. (hide spoiler)]

For Death and Falin, well, I do not want to say much right now because most of my opinions are based on the third book. Death plays a major role in it. He also gets some character development. Falin is still an enigma, sort of. But this whole love triangle has gotten stretched too thin. Then again, maybe Price will work something out in the next book.

I don't think you are being dense about Falin. It is just so hard to tell with him, what are his emotions and what he has been ordered to act out. After all, he is completely beholden to the Winter Queen. And I really hope you already knew that part.

The third book sort of has more in the form of character development and less in the form of plot. Its still a decent book though and I am okay with the trade-off. I needed to know more about Death. Though he is still mysterious. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I remember a scene from one of the Anita Blake books where the weres are watching old school werewolf movies. They laugh and joke through the whole thing but become "eerily silent" when it was spot on. (hide spoiler)] It is different to have a character who is not a 100% powerful but yes, it would make more sense if she made it more real by adding tiny details. We may not know them, but once they are there, they do give a lot of depth to the world. I still want Alex to kick more ass. really!

It depends on what you mean (view spoiler)[ Szerian never really "lost his memories" but he is what they are calling it "submerged"--his overall personality is stuck within the body of Ryan, and ryan is a facet of szerian's personality. So Szerian is technically always there--watching the world go around him while he his trapped inside his own body by a part of his personality.

The trapped part came out for a short bit towards the end of this book, but he went back to being ryan. (hide spoiler)]

I figured there would be more development in later books and gathered Death would do a lot in 3. I gathered Falin was totally bound by the winter queen; I just put it to be stronger since it is still new to me and winter queens/faeries have this Machiavellian habit….

I remember that scene from that series. It is not really adding more details it is more of a get what you have right. I put the series on my list where I try to keep tabs on series to watch out for the next book when my library gets it.

I like the names she chose for some of her characters. (They totally hit my nerd reflex) I heard Ryu's name and had to go back to hear the spelling, then thought "Haduoken" roll from back, down, to front + a punch button.... Anayan was a name a good friend of mine used for a character name in a game we played together.

I read the first book a while back and something either distracted me or made me irritated so I did not read the next book. I had even deleted the folder off of my computer ... I never do stuff like that. I have all of my books saved to a pin drive plus back-ups on my harddrive. I keep records of almost everything so it will be a mystery to me I guess!

I can't think of a bad thing about Anyan yet (like Ryu being a selfish butt head), except the normal male thing with selective hearing. He seems to be too good to be true and not, I never make sense, all that I can say is that he fits. That or I am just not seeing it because I like his character, and I never liked Ryu’s.
Anyan is a great choice for Jane, now if things did not keep them from getting together….

@Mello - I would not recommend Last Kiss Goodnight. The premise is really well done, but the characters don't live up to it. Just don't go in with any expectations and you might actually enjoy it :)
