Is Karen Chance a series writer? If so, which series do you recommend and any information is greatly appreciated.

Karen Chance has a couple of series, one of which is a spin off of another series. The first series is her Cassandra Palmer series:Touch the Dark
Claimed By Shadow
Embrace the Night
Curse the Dawn
The spin-off series is the Dorina Basarab series:
Midnight's Daughter
Death's Mistress (not yet published)
The first Dorina book falls in to the timeline between the 3rd and 4th Cassie books.
They are both really great series. I'll admit that the first Cassie book took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, the series just has kept getting better and better.
The beginning of the first book was a bit of a drag. But once Bones is introduced, it improves in leaps and bounds and every book since has been great.
The above meaning Frost's series. Although Cassie Palmer, too, had about 60 pages of info dump as Chance was setting up her heroine and world. Both improve drastically and are now among my favorites. Chance's series about Dory suffers from no such problems.
Ok, thanks. It seems to me that the first book in a series always drags a bit. Even Dark Lover had it's slow parts, I thought. Info dump is a good way to put it.I'm writing a book that has to provide backstory and I am going to do it with a lot of dialog and hopefully, emotion.

Frost's series started slow for just a few chapters then picked up for the rest of the series as far as I'm concerned.
If you like Frost and Chance I suggest Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward, and Rachel Vincent.
Vincent is about werecats, be forwarned if you are not into that genre. Her first novel is a little slow until about halfway through. Get through that and it is pretty much smooth sailing. I am on the fourth now, and it has yet to be slow.
Maybe that will help with your TBR pile as well. Good luck with your book.
I think dialogue is a good way to go. I think any method will do so long as the backstory comes through organically. Frankly, with some of these series, I would've been content had the author just created a prologue, rather than trying to cram in all this info amidst the action and sacrificing flow. At least with a prologue, I expect to be learning something for later, rather than trying to keep a million things straight at once.
With Frost, she could have done a prologue/short story of a glimpse into Kat's upbringing and it would've served the same purpose! You'll see what I mean when you get to it.
Well I stay confused in the Dark Hunter series. I wish that she would have done like JR Ward did in BDB and had a glossary. Wonder if there is anything out there that shows a list of all the Dark Hunters, Werehunters, Gods, Squires, Appollites, etc..their decendants and their powers for the Dark Hunter series?
There is a guide out for the darkhunter books. I think it's called the Dark Hunter Companion. It has a double bow and arrow on the cover.I just started reading a new series last night that was definitely interesting. But it's not really for the faint of heart.
Desire for Three
Blade's Desire
Creation of Desire
These are all by: Leah Brooke
But as I said.. they were intense lol

Intense meaning you did not like them, or would you recommend them to other readers?
Oh.. I liked them! But they had graphic sex including BDSM themes and menage.. some people don't like reading that. But if you're into it, I would totally recommend it.It was an interesting setup.. the town that the book is set in is basically a town where everyone is involved in some sort of sexual practice that isn't considered "normal". Pretty unique.
Dang I wish they wouldn't make the covers so sluty. I don't need everyone knowing the smut I'm reading all the time. LOL!

just took a look at the book my goodness..... .Intense ......I don't think is the word. haha.
Sara wrote: "Dang I wish they wouldn't make the covers so sluty. I don't need everyone knowing the smut I'm reading all the time. LOL! "LOL!! I got it through the kindle so I didn't have to worry about the smutty cover. Although... this smutty cover definitely reflects the book HAHA.
oh yeah.. these books are totally not PNR or UF lol.. but still good ;)

"I seen something but i cant remember where but they actually have book covers for "sexy books" so people can't see it.... i just don't remember what web site it was :(
it's an E-reader put out by Amazon. You order books through amazon and it gets sent directly to my kindle.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001...
Here's the website for it. There are also other E-readers out there. There is one from Sony as well, but I can't think of the others right now.
Cool! Well it would have been cool until my husband informed me 3 hours ago that our laptop is broken again. I'll have to try those though.
LOL About smutty covers. What about some of those titles? We went to B&N to get the new novella with Lora Leigh's new Wounded Heroes series. My daughter was so embarrassed because the woman at the counter was quite elderly and the title of the book was Real Men Last All Night. She asked the lady for the book and the lady asked "Whaaaatt?" My daughter repeated it and the woman said "Oooohh, is it one of THOSE books?" ROFLMAO!
LOL! I know yall sometimes I feel like I am in a porno isle at the book store. I let my newphew borrow the first Dark Hunter because he said he loved Greek Mythology. I told him he should probably just keep this book private. He was like why? I said look at the covers do you really want to be caught in public reading Fantasy Lover? Now I know yall are all thinking "your newphew!" but heck yall he is 17 and has seen a whole lot more on the internet and reading is good for him. He's not a reader so heck if it takes a good sex book to get him started reading then what's the harm. Is that wrong?
I know exactly what you mean... when im in borders they always find me looking at that cover with tinest bit of clothing on the guy on the cover as they say.."can I help you" then I say no thanks and it's worse when I go pay cause there is either an older man or older women at the desk (no matter when I go geesh those two oldies are always there hehehe) I get red in the face very easily so at least its not that bad when the women is there but when I had her the copy of Pleasure Unbound or something like Nicholas Im like yes i am going to read this!
LOL at the porn isle. It's a bit embarrassing. Sometimes, when there is an older person also browsing the isle I'll say to my daughter "That one doesn't have a bunch of sex in it, does it?" Why should I be so embarrassed? Geeez. And regarding your nephew, at 17 what is ok or not for him to read is pretty much up to his parents if they are in the picture. Be careful with that one!
You could always say "I'm getting this for my elderly mother who needs excitement in her life. She's about your age." LOLOL

I thought about getting the Kindle, but I'm one of those people that just loves seeing a bookshelf full of books...*sigh*
LOL! I love everyone's comments on this. As far as my nephew goes, I asked his mom and she was like "whatever I don't care". He is not monitored enough at home which is why I jumped at the chance to get him to read instead of "spending time" on the internet if you get my drift.

That is true. If he (or his parents) decide it is too much there is always the skip point of view as well. No reason for sex scenes to ruin an entire book.
It's true about skipping, but let me tell you...some of the authors are so incredibly good at their "scenes" that it becomes like a train wreck for me and I can't look away. *blushing*
I keep my eyes glued, no matter what.Well, unless there is talk of velvet sheaths. Then I may move along.
LOL yes. I know exactly what you mean. Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favorite romance authors because she doesn't... over do her scenes. She allows them to be realistic while entertaining.
Question? Okay so men and women are different when it comes to what turns us on. Men are more visual while women are turned on more by what we hear and coming home to a clean house. LOL! So with that said, is our smut books the same as men looking at porn? I mean I can look at porn and NOTHING, but read my books and I'm looking for my husband. So with that said maybe my nephew isn't affected by it like I am. Any comments on that ladies?
Uniquely Moi wrote: "ROFL! Some of the authors are quite....flowery, in their descriptives, aren't they?"Please...we're adults! I get that they are trying for poetic rather than blunt, but it's sex. Yes, sex can be beautiful. But it's also natural, and being so, it doesn't need to be cloaked in imagery. Takes me right out of the scene and makes me wonder if the couple is actually touching each other, or if they're just thinking about butterflies, lightening, and upholstry fabric.

The stories I am drawn to have strong relationship plots, the characters want each other not only for the hot sex but for the lifelong emotional, loving bond they feel.
For me, the best are the men who have pretty much decided that they can't love, can't have a relationship and settle for great sex at some BDSM club, only to get blind-sided by some woman who brings out more in them than just their male parts. You get the idea.

Until a year ago, Breaking Dawn was the most sexually explicit book I had ever read. Boy, have things changed. *fanning self*
I think we women like to use our imaginations more, too, as opposed to seeing it laid out for us. We like to mentally interpret the scene. But I shan't turn my nose up at looking at a set of abs and shoulders...
LOL! I agree. And I like the hard core bad boys tamned by love, but in real life NEVER went for those guys. Known a lot of women who have tried to tame them, yeah doesn't happen in real life.
Michelle M. wrote: "I think we women like to use our imaginations more, too, as opposed to seeing it laid out for us. We like to mentally interpret the scene. But I shan't turn my nose up at looking at a set of abs..."
I can appreciate that sure but a picture doesn't cut it for me, I need a story! LOL!

Well, you know, something nice to rest your eyes on between chapters...
That I can appreciate. The plot has to flow for me. If I dislike the characters then the scenes to absolutely nothing for me, and I find myself skimming over them looking for something more out of the book.
