Ok, enough of the emoticon crap. Rose, just because your brothers aren't ideal men/guys doesn't mean all guys are that way. I'm a very well read man. Anne Rice, J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Raymond E. Feist are some of my favorite authors of great works of fiction... Anne Rice being one of particular importance to this thread. I tell my girlfriend I love her all the time, because I do. She's a great woman and is good to me and deserves all the love I give her. SO let's get back on topic here, last time I checked this was a Twilight Haters' Club, not a guy bashing parade.
Anyway... MY reasons for hating Twilight... never read the books, could tell instantly they were not for me (don't get me wrong, The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies/books)
I watched the first movie with my girlfriend one night not too long after it was released on DVD and almost turned it off halfway through. I'm not about to waste an hour of my time watching two tweens staring at each other without a hint of emotion in their eyes (cause they're both terrible actors) (never knew Kristen Stewart was so good at stuttering) watching vampires twinkle like Elton John's bowel movements in the sunlight OR watch vampires play friggin BASEBALL. No coffins? No bloodlust? Pussiest vampires ever. Terrible special effects, especially the monkey with the other monkey on it's back running up the tree. THEN I watched clips from the second movie while it was playing at the blockbuster I work at part time and saw FURTHER mythological creature blasphemy... werewolves that can change whenever they want AND RETAIN FULL CONTROL WITHOUT THE NEED FOR A FULL MOON. WTF! I understand Meyer wants to be different, but totally destroying all common conceptions of Vampires and Werewolves is totally the wrong way to go about it... I agree that she successfully feminized vampires for the masses, but that's not what true vampire fans wanted.... that's why all these tween-twitards are around. They were too scared of the common conception of a vampire to bother reading a book. I don't see a single goth person or ANYONE that has ever read any of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles (amazing books, by the way, 7 of them and all of them genius writing) that likes Twilight. (that I have personally met) And she does bend some of the common conceptions of vampires like garlic and holy ground being fatal to her will, but her entire backstory on vampires and her interactions with Lestat and Memnoch(satan) and God himself are extraordinary when you make it to that book. I'm a non-believer (do not practice any religion or hold any religious views while still keeping a good set of morals, o course) but I'm more apt to believe her writings than anything the Christian Churches have to say. (and I'm well versed in many religions)
I hear all the horror stories of her writing being very repetitive and I would liken her to Dan Brown (DaVinci Code) for that. I'm not going to subject myself to that. Good descriptive writing (some of the best I've ever read) comes from Tolkien and Feist. Those of you that haven't read Lord of the Rings or any of Feist's Riftwar Legacy, you are really cutting yourselves short in terms of literary ammunition and should definitely pick them up (or Anne Rice for that matter, starting with Interview with a Vampire and working your way up, they only get better)
Anyway, done with my rant for now, I hope you enjoyed it, thanks for reading and I may be posting here again. (hope I didn't offend anyone, if I did, let me know in a nice way, please)
