Other issues (Audible)
Thanks, Jeanie and MissSusie (and everyone who has posted their “wish list” ideas)! It is really great to hear all the things that can help make the Audible experience better for our customers. If you have any additional suggestions on how we can improve our service, please send them directly to greatideas@audible.com, so that a wider team may see them.
Audible is in dire need of a better way to view your library of titles. When I look at my library I want to see what books I have there. Instead I get a cluttered page with each "part" of the book listed separately and no cover images. Even a wish-list type view for the library page would be a huge improvement. Even better would be to allow you to view your library by author or genre to make it easier to browse. Best would be to allow you to "shelve" your audiobooks yourself so that you can quickly access which titles you, say, haven't listened to yet (I can't be the only one guilty of this one ... )All in all, I'm very happy with my audible membership!
Not sure if this has been asked but I asked Amazon and they said to ask Audible. Is there a way to see what Kindle books I already own that are compatable with the "whispersync for voice"? I would likey purchase some audio versions of my current Kindle books but I don't want to weed through them all seperatley to see if they are compatable. Thanks!

Until I discovered Goodreads last year, I had lost track of many of the audiobooks I had in my Audible library. It's just a good thing that Audible won't let you buy a book a second time, or I would have some duplicates. Now I have a GR shelf with my Audible audiobooks and I can quickly check to see what I have.
At the Audible site, the only way I know (unless I remember) that I have listened to a book is if it has rating stars; even if I don't write a review, I give stars when I finish a book.
I'm curious. I've been watching the Hamish Macbeth series by M. C. Beaton in order to acquire the missing middle books, 16-18 and 20, and suddenly noticed a couple of days ago that nearly the entire first half of the series is "Not Available on Audible". That's odd because I own those books and bought them from Audible. What gives? And when can I expect books 16-18 and 20 from the Hamish Macbeth series? Oh, yeah, and book 7 of Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse series?
Jeanie wrote: "I'm curious. ..."I've noticed similar anomalies in the past. I hope you get an explanatory answer.
Heidi (up to no good) wrote: "Not sure if this has been asked but I asked Amazon and they said to ask Audible. It will lead you to the list of 15,000 ... if you see a discount you probably own the kindle version.
First, thank you Audible for finally adding Coffeehouse book 7!Now, I'm a little confused about the message on the Audible home page that says I can go to www.Audible.com/access to experience the new features of the Audible site. What's its purpose? Sure, it's stripped down, but I like the information on the home page--it's how I know what's going on in audio. But I also like a stripped down version because my old computer--which does everything I need, even if slowly, so I'm loathe to replace it--keeps getting a message: a script on this page will slow down Internet Explorer and may cause it to stop functioning, blah, blah, blah. This started about two or three weeks ago and, sure enough, it makes accessing Audible VERY slow.
So, what will I gain with the new access page, and what will I lose? And what is the new Audible experience?
Jeanie wrote: "... little confused about ... www.Audible.com/access ..."The "/access" site is free of graphics so it should be easier for an old/slow computer to open (and be less likely to get that scripts message). We have an ancient computer that gets the scripts message. Various IT people have suggested things to do about it (e.g. empty the cache, etc) but nothing much helps. I think it's a computer problem, not necessarily caused by a particular website.
The recommendations section on the Audible home page is increasingly useless to me. Before, it was giving a number of things already on my wish list and now it's showing me things that are already in my library. Also, there should be a way to "fix" a recommendation so I can state I'm not interested in a book.
When I go to my wish-list and click on the price, aren't all the titles supposed to be sorted by price? This does not work. Very annoying. I told this to customer care and they said they would look into it, but that was ages ago. STILL doesn't work! This sorting device is essential if you have money coupons since it is more economical to buy cheap books with the money. Grrr.
Amy wrote: "Is there a way to search by price or to search sale items on audible?"Well, it used to be possible to sort your wish-list by price. That no longer works on my wish-list. Are other people having similar problems with this function?
Two days ago, via email, I pointed this out (for a second time) to Audible. I was told I would get a response within 24 hours. Still no response. Maybe they are having trouble fixing it?
I know of no other way, but over at the Audible 2013 Sales thread, there is now a link to the sale that functions.
Oh, good! Thanks for the tip!I just read through the thread, but I am not finding the link. How do I get to it?
Well, a complete overhaul showed up at Audible today, a superficial sort of one, new formats, all the links moved into drop-down lists, lots of white space. So far it's OK, except I find that when I click through to a book's page, suddenly there is so much white space that the page is off-center on my monitor; the other pages (Library, WishList, main, etc) are at least right-sized. Annoying. I'm running Win7. I just wish they'd left the old interface and spent the programming time and $$ on some of the indexing and sorting and searching issues we've mentioned here. My audiobook friends at Ravelry have had the same complaints about searching and sorting.
For instance, it seems like you get odd or no-hit answers when you search your Library unless (as a CS person tipped me) you change from '6 months' to 'all'. Plus the search function isn't very fuzzy - if you leave out periods after initials, sometimes you don't get any results, etc.
I have only tried to use Audible two prior times and got so frustrated I just let it go. Tonight I decided to try again and download a new book. My Library shows the book in two parts. I clicked the Part 1 Download and was able to get it into my iTunes and eventually onto my iPod Nano. However--and this is the same problem I've had in the past--I clicked the Part 2 Download but nothing happens, though the green check mark appears as though the download worked. But it's no where on my laptop. Any advice?!
It's happened to me as well. I've also just downloaded it again and haven't had a problem the second time around.
i always found the process of downloading from audible and loading onto a device cumbersome and often buggy. i was overjoyed to discover how great the audible smartphone app is -- i now much prefer that method, and it saves on hard drive space.
Since the new Itunes update I too have had problems getting getting all parts of the book onto my Ipod. As the others have noted, you have to do it again. Yesterday I had to try three times for it to function.
Okay, I will try again tonight to get the second half. I see a lot of mentions of an Audible app for iPhone; I'm going to check if there is an Android version as I have a Droid. Sounds like that's much simpler. So happy I found this group!

At this time we do not have a feature which lets you see which Kindle books you already own that are compatible with Whispersync for Voice but we will forward your feedback to see if we can have this in the future. In the meantime, please email us at goodreads-support@audible.com to see if we can find that kind of list for you on the back end

Thanks, everyone. I went back to My Library tonight and was able to download Part 2 of the book. I guess in the future if I have problems again, I'll try it another day. A bit irritating but at least now I know the trick. Thanks!

I do it pretty much back to back, Chrissie, without waiting at all, and the second attempt has always worked fine.
If it makes you feel any better, I had the "Hi, I'm your concierge, may I help you?" pop up recently, which I promptly dismissed, realizing a moment later that I had needed to discuss putting my account on hiatus (the phone call took all of three minutes though).
Since the website changed I can't find my wishlist? I know I am just missing it but am frustrated. I also agree with Heidi's suggestion.
Lisa wrote: "Since the website changed I can't find my wishlist? I know I am just missing it but am frustrated. I also agree with Heidi's suggestion."If you hover over Library on the main page, your wish list will be one of the sub-choices. I'm annoyed that they made Just Added tougher to access (directly).
I hate the new web site. I especially hate the fact that the homepage now appears to load in two pieces and that the details of the books takes a few seconds after the rest of the page. I miss the old navigation setup.
It also seems like one time I will go and it will be the old site then the next time it will be the new one. Just not sure what I think of the new design yet.. but I hate change..It's so Who Moved my Cheese!

Looks like your request may have paid off. :)
Joining in the group who are very unhappy with the new website layout. All they added was a lot of white space, which doesn't help with navigation; and now a book's separate page is too wide to fully display on my monitor (other pages are OK). The drop-down menus are annoying due to needing to hover or popping up when you're just moving from top to bottom, the Search function is possibly even slower and fussier about needed exact matching for spelling, and my Ravelry friends with vision issues say they're having great difficulty. Put it back, Audible, please!!
And yes, I commented at the site.
Audible! I think it's unanimous. Please put back the old website we were happy with. Newer is not necessarily better.
The new layout is not helpful. Because of my need to use a screenreader I now can no longer get to my Wish List. The drop-down menus won't drop down for me. I get a weird message telling me to press the PASS key and then use the space bar. Where the heck is the PASS key? I called Audible and after a very extended time with my friendly customer service person who called everyone she could think of... too bad, there's a conflict with your screenreader and we can't fix it so maybe the screenreader programmers need to catch up. I've found a strange workaround--when Audible sends an email its links are like the old Audible set up and voila, a link to my Wish List is there. Now all I have to do is make sure I don't forget and delete that email.
Jeanie, I tried visiting the Audible site using VoiceOver (Apple's screenreader) I got the PASS key message and I have no idea what that means. However, I noticed that they have a page,http://www.audible.com/access
for improved accessibility. The Wish List is easily accessible from there. Or, you can bookmark,
http://www.audible.com/wl
I hope this helps.

Thank you, I'll go try that right now!

I tried that and it worked!
I'm not one to get overly upset over change, but not all change is the same thing as improvement. Too many web sites seem to change for change's sake, rather than true improvement. Audible seems to be 50/50 on this site revision--some improvement, some mere change. It's a pity that their changes mean extra work for me as a user. It really will slow down my buying without a doubt, which can't be the goal of the revamp.
Jeanie wrote: "Tim wrote: "Jeanie, I tried visiting the Audible site using VoiceOver (Apple's screenreader) I got the PASS key message and I have no idea what that means. Recent updates of MS Word and Excel are examples of this.
Can anyone who works with Audible tell me if/when the new J.R. Ward Book will be coming out? I know that the book is going to be released March 26th, but I cant find an audiobook release date??? HELP! Im waiting patiently!!!!
Michel wrote: "Can anyone who works with Audible tell me if/when the new J.R. Ward Book will be coming out? Last year's book release on Audible was an exercise in frustration for the audiobook reader. But Audible did end up releasing the audio same day as print, just much later in the day.
Poor Audible, I bet you're sorry we got this thread started. That being said, I think Audible needs to be more aware of the interconnectedness of members nowadays. Many people commented on a recent email offer to buy 3 books and get a $10 coupon. Many of the comments were that they didn't get the email--neither did I, for that matter. It's hard enough knowing of sales in other parts of the world that operate under different constraints, but to know someone in the same sales area is getting a bonus that others aren't... that just pretty much sucks.
