Chrissie | 1529 comments Joel, I think it is important to tell them what we want. For me it is particularly important since often the audio version is available to those who live in the States, but not me since I live in Europe. They have to know, they have to be told over and over again, that these silly publication rules are antiquated! The book market is worldwide. And if I don't open my mouth, I cannot be annoyed when a book is not available to me.

Jeanie | 4024 comments Just wanted to say thanks, sort of. My frequent mention of my missing books 7, 8, and 9 of the Coffeehouse series resulted in one of them being released. Which one? Book 8! *smacks head stupidly* Well, this at least gives me hope that books 7 and 9 will be available eventually. I still wish I didn't have to check the site all the time and that Audible would notify me...

Ah, well. To paraphrase Jane Austen, what do we exist for but to laugh at fellow-posters and to be laughed at in return! ;P

message 55: by Kat (new)

Kat Hooper (kathooper) | 22 comments Audible Frontiers is producing a lot of random old sci-fi these days, so why not the titles I am interested in?

It takes them a while to be able to procure rights (if they even can because someone else may have the rights). They have to work with agents, authors (or estate if the author is dead) and lawyers, I presume. Over the past few years I've requested a lot of old SFF titles from Audible and they've even asked me for suggestions because I run a review site. They have obtained almost all of what I've asked for. They've also let me know about some issues they're having with some, too, such as Kage Baker's COMPANY series. She died and they couldn't get in touch with her agent, last I heard. So there's a bunch of legal stuff that has to happen, but I know they're listening to requests.

message 56: by Joel (new)

Joel (joelevard) Thanks for the insight Kat (I like your site a lot by the way, and always look for your reviews). I requested some OOP titles by Martha Wells (City of Bones,The Death of the Necromancer, Wheel of the Infinite). Her newer series that includes The Cloud Roads seems to be doing well for them.

Maybe you can use your influence to pass along a note to the relevant parties! ;)

Hey Joel, thanks for your feedback on the book requests. We’re always looking to expand our catalog, so we do take requests from our members seriously. While the content team may not have the time to respond to each individual request, rest assured that your emails are making it to the proper folks.

Hey Jeanie, we’re currently working to get the next Royal Spyness book in store as soon as possible. While we try to be as close to simultaneous with the print as we can, sometimes audio production gets delayed. It looks like it should be in our store on November 20. Sorry for the delay!

Hi Kimberly and Jeanie, this came up in another thread recently. While we’d love to carry the Harry Potter series, the digital audiobooks are currently only available through Pottermore. We know it’s something our members really want, so we continue to work to get the digital download rights for the series. If/when we’re able to offer these books, we’ll make sure everyone knows!

Hi Dee, thanks for the feedback – we’re always looking for ways to improve our service. Right now we don’t offer streaming audio over the cloud, but if you have an iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone, you can download the audio to our app and listen on your device wherever and whenever you want :)

Frances (shibagirl) | 151 comments dear Audible (and audible.co.uk) ....
Why is A Breath of Snow and Ashes book six in the outlander series by Diana Gabaldon only available in the abridged version - 14½ hours , (where as the original is over 57 hours)??????
this is the only one in the series that you dont have (and I can see on some old forum posts that you have previously had it ,or announced that you where getting it .
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAASE do something about this , having listened to 1-5 read by Davina Porter I can't listen to someone else and certainly dont want to miss out on such a huge portion of the book. I would like to listen to the whole series but obviously wouldn't want to skip a book.

Jonette | 27 comments Is there a way to read a synopsis of a book in your ipod library without downloading it first? Sometimes if I have a few books to choose from, I would love to be able to remember what it's about before spending the time on what could be a lengthy download.

message 68: by Joel (new)

Joel (joelevard) on the android, if you touch the item and hold it, a menu pops up asking if you want to download it or read the summary. i would guess the ipod app works similarly.

I'd love to have this for both audiobook and ebooks. A couple of weeks ago I went on vacation (with no internet access) and I had difficulty figuring out what to read among 300 ebooks because I had no clue what a lot of them were about! I had to start a book, read a few pages and then decide if I wanted to read it. I think I started like 20 books that week.

message 70: by TX Dee (last edited Dec 05, 2012 10:20AM) (new)

TX Dee (txdidi) Is there any way to search for audiobooks on the Audible website by price? Or to do a search for books on sale? I've yet to figure it out, if there is a way.

Well I know the answer to that one... I'm guessing, like me, you're not from the States, which is the only place ABoSaA has been released as digital audio. Basicly it's about publishing rights.
I've requested the unabridged version via audible's email request page thingy, but their answer was just that it was not possible at present time.
I've also tweeted to Diana Gabaldon, who wrote "Where do you live? I believe we're working on a contract for the UK and Commonwealth countries." (which didn't help me since Denmark is neither UK or A Commonwealth country.... blaaa)

message 75: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I wonder if you can gift a book to somebody from another country to bypass the rights issues.

Hi Dee, this is something that members have been asking for, and we are currently looking into the best way to make this work on our site.

message 89: by Audible Support (new)

Audible Support (audible_com) | 260 comments We appreciate all your feedback on international rights, and understand how this issue can be frustrating. As some group members have mentioned here and in another thread, we do not control the distribution rights of particular titles. Instead, we are licensed by the audio publishers to sell these titles in the specified countries where the publisher has acquired the digital download rights. As a distributor of the audio content, we need to abide by the restrictions that have been placed on the audiobook. Publishers are able to purchase “world” rights for a particular download; however they frequently purchase digital rights for some countries and not others. In some cases, one publisher will control the download rights to a title in North America, and another will control the rights to the same title and recording in other countries. We always encourage our publishing partners to get the broadest rights possible, to serve as many listeners as possible across the globe.

If you are not logged in to Audible.com, you will see all of the books available in our store, but in order to purchase you’ll be required to log-in. And once you log in and we know your billing address, we only show you the content that you are able to purchase in your region.

I have reached out to the folks at Audible.co.uk to let them know your concerns.

I hadn't even noticed that they had brought that feature back. It was gone for a long time. Now, if I could just search narrators in my library.

❉⊰Gayle⊱❉ (ziastar) | 8 comments I'm relatively new to audiobooks, so I'm learning about the different narrators. When I shop the audible website, many times I touch the small green speaker icon to listen to sample excerpts. However, on my iPad nothing happens. No sound, nothing. Yes, before anyone asks, I make sure the volume is on. Most of the problem occurs on the iPad, but I have had it occur on the Kindle Fire HD and the Google Nexus 7. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem? I would have posted this under technical issues, but that thread has been locked. (I'm also new to this group.)

Thanks....

Gayle

Javasapien | 272 comments Another "wish" (or two):
I'd really like to see Audible introduce filtering on any of the columns now visible in your wishlist and your library. As a web developer, I've done this for database driven websites before and it isn't that difficult. Many of us have very large wishlists and features like this are necessary to make it enjoyable to manage them.

At the very least, until such filtering could be implemented I'd love it if they would allow you a choice of how many books to view on a single page in your wishlist and library. If you could choose a high number like 200 or 300, then at least you could take advantage of your browser's Find feature to do your own quick searching.

Another alternative (though still not nearly as slick as filtering which a company as cool as Amazon/Audible ought to want) would be to have an "export my wishlist" and "export my library details" that would send an excel file of all your items (not the aa file itself).

message 95: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3948 comments Not very sophisticated, granted, but I believe there is a choice of how many items per page in your library view? (Maxes out at 200)

Hi Gayle . . I have many Apple devices as well . . . I believe you have to have JavaScript or Adobe flash installed . . . which Apple does not support . . . but if you set up Safari to go to the mobile site instead of the full website . . . you are able to listen to the samples on your iPad. Also if you go to the website on your computer . . . you can always access the samples from there.

Thanks for your help. I've discovered that, if I go to the mobile site for audible, the sound works. If I go to the full site on my iPad, the sound does not work. Interesting.....I didn't realize there was a difference.

message 98: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments I wish Audible would clarify some of its categories for books, specifically abridged, unabridged, and dramatized/original production. I absolutely refuse to listen to an abridged book, but some series do omnibus audios of two or more abridged versions and call them "unabridged". I try to check the reviews first, but sometimes there aren't any yet or no one mentions it. I found this particularly irksome today while looking at the Agatha Raisin series. It is not complete but the first four seem to be true unabridged versions and the last four possibly as well, but some intermediate numbers may or may not fall into that abridged omnibus as unabridged version. I ended up taking advantage of the 25% off sale--thank you Audible--on just the first four because the others were doubtful and there is too large a gap to go ahead and buy the last few. Please, Audible, make the true nature of the content clear--thanks.
