did you like it??"
Loved the last in the series and was sorry to see them all go their separate ways x

I loved Shadowland!

Oh my - I get you on this, Monica! I NEVER gave up on a book before I got my Kindle. I mean, I would butcher my brain to plough through rather than surrender. But I must say I have abandoned a few ebooks because, well, so many books, so little time (to waste on trash).

And that's why I'm so sad I can't like Octavia Butler's books. They are considered masterpieces and from what little I read they are splendidly written, superb example of how to express thoughts in English. So far, I have only discarded trash, never something as good as her work :(

How is Blood Song so far? Have you read any of the Kenyon's scifi titles?

Now I am curious. LOL

Carleny, I've read several of Kenyon's books (and among them also Fantasy Lover)but her scifi series, The League, remain my favorite.

It's all Sarajayne's fault really :) She started it! But, I'm so glad I followed, because this series is, so far, awesome. Halfway through with Blameless and still liking it a lot.

Good to know :)

I liked I Am Not a Serial Killer. It's not amazing, and I think it loses something about one-third through the book (You'll know the scene when you see it) but still good.

I've posted my review for [bookcover:Wanted: Ghostbusting Bride|13627457]. I put it here under the romance thread as well. It covers more than one genre so I wasn't sure the best place to put it.

About halfway through my next title,

Monica, about your remarks re Octavia Butler being a "scifi writer," she was actually a fantasy writer who dabbled in science fantasy but even her alleged "hard science fiction" in the Xenogenesis series just came out "fudging" on all of the actual science.
I really wanted to like

I enjoyed her imagination, but her stilted world view and even worse, personal dialect (slangish sentence structures and colloquialisms) really ruined the attempted futuristic "shiny" mood for me. The powerful aliens weren't so powerful and the "big strong men" were just crass and vulgar IMO. It was also incredibly AuthorConvenient that any/all things of importance that happened to humanity happened to the protagonist, like she was the only person left alive. It made a planetary fabricated fantasy world very small and simplistic for me. Of course, compared to someone like say, Asimov, and his incredibly constructed worlds of his Foundation Empire, I suppose I'm making unfair comparisons. Still, if I have to live up to those standards, so does she ;-)
I'd like to find SOMETHING non-fantasy that she wrote and that I can enjoy. Supposedly she did write more than one non-fantasy title.

Thanks, Flora, heading there!"
I know!!! I couldn't stop reading last night and finished it. Gasp! LOVE IT!

I did (sort of) and it is going to kill a lot of time with "dead space" (haha). I'll have a 30-45 min commute each way which will kill time for no good reason. A friend of mine who lives near the location needs a new roommate however and he's willing to reduce the rent just to get me in there - he has trust issues after this last roommate and I don't blame him! I might just be moving again in December (or wait until January) to make life easier. I won't have a first paycheck until the 3d week of November though, so my life is still pretty stressed until then--and only gets better assuming I can actually get them to give me hours right away. I only have like 15 hours scheduled next week (across 4 days so I shall spend nearly as much time commuting as working :-( really will have to move if that becomes the new "normal")
Thanks for asking Vered.
