I'm in, I have just pre-ordered that one and Black House in hardcover, coming in November.

message 16: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinlayne) | 72 comments I don't have time to participate in this now, unless it happens to be something I need to research for my novel. The one I'm currently trying to get through (before I have to return it to the library) for the purpose is a book I don't think you'd find too exciting: "Life of an Oak: An Intimate Portrait." Lol. An oak tree plays a pretty prominent role in my story, so I wanted to be accurate about it. And there's a lot more to learn about these trees than I could have imagined. *throws a few acorns your way* :) Enjoy your books! I have to read more portions of Chicago Manual of Style and then do some more editing for my class.

You are very welcome! I've been wanting to re-read it, anyway, in preparation for Black House.:)

message 21: by J.S. (new)

J.S. Bailey (jsbailey) Ooh! Ooh! Read my book! Read my book!

The Land Beyond the Portal by J.S. Bailey

Yes, that was a shameless promotion. All in favor say Aye? ;)

I do own The Talisman but I've never read it.

message 22: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Cooper | 11 comments I'd like to nominate Boy's Life and Carrion Comfort. I've been dying to read these for some time now! I actually have started Carrion Comfort but stopped when I had my surgery and just haven't picked it back up yet. A group read would be a great excuse to! lol

message 23: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinlayne) | 72 comments *Lament!* *Weep!* I still can't find the time to read a book for fun! Part of it is my habit of hanging out on Goodreads, but I mostly blame my schooling and my novel. I remember my mother reading The Talisman, saying that in it, a character could cause a catastrophre by doing some some small, everyday thing. Creepy! That is all I know about that book, other than the author's name.

message 24: by Dustin (new)

Dustin | 1195 comments Mod
Hi, Christopher! Since you're interested in Carrion Comfort, you should join Janie's Bookworm Buddies group, as they're currently reading it as a group.:)

I think we still have some time. Let's give it some time, in case anyone else has any others they'd like to nominate.

It seems there are a lot of votes for The Talisman. Do you think we should just skip the poll and go with it, or wait and see if any other nominations are made?

Well if The Talisman is indeed the group read, I think it should be followed by Black House (for obvious reasons, IMO.)

I should have the nominations posted relatively shortly. There's time yet, so I thought it best to wait awhile, so everyone can nominate whichever book(s) they'd like..:)

Hi, Courtney, that's a great idea, IMO!

Has anyone read The Knife of Never Letting Go? I read it earlier this year, and absolutely LOVED it! There are two other books in the series, along with a Prequel.

Oh, indeed, Alondra! I absolutely adore them, The Talisman in particular. Travelin' Jack and Wolf are AMAZING characters, IMO. I've only read Black House once, shortly after its publication. As a result, I remember very little about it, and am just itching for a re-read!

Terrific news!

I'm kind of surprised that Black House isn't as well received as it rightly deserves. It's written differently, yeah, and the first 60 or so pages are kind of hard to get into, but I from what I can remember, I really liked it a LOT. It was great to see Jack again!
