Joel Dennstedt (joeldennstedtymailcom) For non-collectors only:
What First Edition do you hold most dear?
What First Edition do you most covet holding?
For me:
Three original Dr. Dolittle books. (How old was I before I got the joke in his name ...)
Covet? I don't know! Think I'll watch your answers and see what boils ...

So understated, Kari. You mean like in: who do I have to kill to get one? You mean, like that?

Matthew (drnaah) I have signed first editions of the Name of the Wind, and The Windup Girl, and Neverwhere. If my house was on fire, I would save my family, then go back for these books.

Jennifer | 239 comments I have two first editions of "Gone with the Wind" in English and another first edition of it in German. (I'm a bit of a fan . . .) I would love a signed first edition but I have a feeling that unless I win the lottery, it will never happen.

Well, now you've done it. Gone With the Wind has been my number one favorite book for over 40 years. Two First Editions is just selfish! :-) Also happens to be, in my humble opinion, the best movie ever made ...

Andrew Smith (wiresmith) I bought a book called 'Peace or Anarchy' by the sinister but interesting post-War CIA bigwig Cord Meyer (who started as a passionate peacenik) via Amazon US earlier this year. The small hardback volume cost about four dollars and when I opened it, it turned out to be a signed first edition. I bought it as research for a book I'd been thinking about writing for years, so took this as a sign that I should get started!

That would be a cool surprise. Signs are signs, right?!

That's what I tell myself on good days!

I totally agree about the movie! I am a collector of GWTW stuff and have been since I was a teenager and watched it with my grandmother (who absolutely loved Clark Gable). One of my English ones was a library book and isn't in the greatest condition but the other one (aside from no dust cover) is next to mint! My German one is the best one I have though because it has the dust cover and no writing inside.

A book with no writing inside. You could call it anything you wanted. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
