How do you do that? I'm still in the first book of my list. I had to finish the previous Mishmash.
Congrats!"
Besides being a fast reader, I have no husband/significant other or children who need my attention, just my fur kids!

Trust me, that helps. My husband has to proofread a book this weekend with lots of numbers, so I am looking after the kids most of the time.

Completed Fatherland for task 16.

Can anyone tell me if this would work?
17) Read a book in which the main character travels a lot. The Shining Girls

No it won't. Most of us had actually planned to use that book, but Barbara reminded us that the travel can't be instantaneous or very quick. There must be a journey that takes time.

Does a bisexual character count for the gay character task?
I would like to say yes, but the characters on which the task is based are gay not bisexual so I have to say no. Sorry.

Damn. Ok, thanks.

The main character is a ferry pilot - she delivers planes and people to various destinations during WWII.
Total 1/5
I didn't think I'd even finish one task! I've been reading so little lately. At least 1 is better than none.
Read To War with Whitaker: The Wartime Diaries of the Countess of Ranfurly, 1939-1945 for task 17.

Well everyone has still one week to go. I hope you all get to complete at least one more book and if not, well there is always the catch up period and try to find your books before then.
@Lauren: if it helps it can also be a character that plays a very big part and is present all the time but is not necessarily the main character of the book.

I am sorry. Just posted the last 5. I hope you find them a bit easier. At least you have now 2 months to look for any books for tasks you have not yet completed. :D

Unfortunately the other major characters are hetero, also bi, or don't have their sexuality mentioned (yet). The main character actually hasn't slept with any men in this book, but I know from previous books in the series that she does, so she's not gay. There was another book I read that had two gay characters, but they were only present for one part of the story.
Another annoying thing (to me) is that these two books and the first one I asked about ALL count for the travel task (feels like a waste somehow) and could have been used for some of next month's tasks. Argh!

3/5

And just in time too. I am so happy for you or them or whatever. :)

Reading for this part of the challenge is now over. You will get another chance in a little under two months to complete this part if you haven't already done so.

You are so going to hate me Jennifer, but I only saw this now when I was doing an update to post everyones new ranks. 1984 is not an alternate history but a dystopian science fiction novel. So it can't be used for task 16. I am so sorry!

I think it can be classified as an alternate history. It was written after the end of World War 2 and gives an idea of what could have happened if the socialist / communist regimes won the war and took control of society. I am glad that this did not happen.
My understanding of Alternate history is provide us with a "What if.." type of picture, in other words, what could have happened which would then have changed the current thinking or way of life.
My view, but if I have to, then I suppose I will need to find a new book :(
I have done an extensive search and 1984 is always categorized by literary people as a dystopian novel never as an alternate history. It is named as one of the books that is most often put in the wrong category and people think it is an AH but it just isn't. So it doesn't count. I am sorry.

I read

Can I use it for task 18?
Yes as long as it is task 19 you're talking about. You mention two tasks in your question. :)
Pirates are by nature a tight community. And since your main character becomes a member of the pirates it will count.

In this book
the characters are on a ship of about 2.5k people. They have been on this ship for a few hundred years. Would this count as a tight (family) unit like a clan/hive/commune etc?
