I loved it. I haven't read it yet this month, but the Night Huntress series is in my top 5 favorite UF series. (Actually, so is Fever) So I'll be re-reading it for the BotM discussion.

I've read it and most of the other ones. I don't love this series, it's always been ok to me. I guess I like it enough to read more, but it's not one that I get real excited about.

I get what you are saying. I might try the second book.
I am almost done with this one and I LOVE it. I love Cat. She cracks me up. It really is a good first to a series. I want to keep reading the rest.
I love Cat and Bones - I enjoyed this book but I do agree with Brianna that this series gets better as it goes but Cat seemed less whinny and stupid-stubborn than some other paranormal series I've read recently.
I enjoyed the book. I listened to the audiobook (I have a fairly long commute), and I think I would have preferred to have read it myself.

Did Bones' accent annoy you?
Did Bones' accent annoy you?
I actually started this series backwards with Once Burned in July. I then went and read all the books in order as suggested on her website. It is now one of my favorite series and I just love Cat and Bones. This book wasn't my favorite but as most series books go I never enjoy the first one as much...too much explaining.
Reread the entire series - And still loved it. I can't wait for the new one in 2013. I also really liked Once Burned. Vlad's a great character - Although I really hope Leila can teach him just a bit about humility.
I have read it, enjoyed it and swallowed the next three books in the series this month. The last two I also had in an audiobook (long commute, too) and it was really annoying, the male voices made really unappealing, not only bones's accent :/ I think I'm taking a break now.
I read the entire series and I love it. After the first book I had to have more. I think I've read everything by Jeaniene Frost.
Love this book and the whole series. Read them about a dozen times. Can't wait for the next one!!!!!!
I'm waiting for the library to get me a copy. *sigh* I hope to have it before the end of the read. *taps fingers impatiently*
I’m halfway through and enjoying lots of things about it, but am finding Bones's accent distracting (in the actual book, I mean – I haven’t heard the audio). It doesn’t quite ring true, as the dialect seems to come from several regions of England at once. Some of his English-isms are v funny though and I’m enjoying the witty dialogue between him and Cat.
Have finished now and really liked it! Enjoyed it more the further I read, esp. as the relationship developed between Cat and Bones, and as other characters were introduced (loved Timmie). Some hilarious moments too!
Overall, I liked this book. I was a little disappointed in the mother and how completely intolerant and hateful towards her own daughter she is, but without her, I think the story would have been too easy for Cat and Bones.
I enjoyed the book enough to continue with the series. Like Jess, I didn't like the mother's (or the grandparent's) attitude.I listened in audiobook. Liked the narration just fine.
Carleny - First drop is a spinoff so you can read it by itself - I think you get more out of it if you've read the Night Huntress and the other Night Huntress World books, but they still stand up on their own.

In her mother's defense: Essentially her daughter was the product of rape; add to that the terror of the vampire blood and believing that her daughter is half demon and her attitude is a little more understandable.

The grandparents I'd have to agree with - They're objection was religious. No pre-marital sex. And yet, Cat loves all of them.
Kat wrote: "Jess wrote: "Overall, I liked this book. I was just hoping that the unconditional love a parent should have for a child would make an appearance. But if it had, the story wouldn't have been the same so I guess in a way I'm glad it didn't.
I really like this series. It did take some time for me to warm up to it, but I've read up to the fourth in the series (If I remember correctly). I do enjoy Bones sense of humor.
I read the first book in this series, but was not pulled in! From what I'm getting, you guys think I should give this series another chance to grab me?
I've only read the first one too, Vonetta. It was ok but not earthshaking for me. However, the series has an excellent reputation and Chapter 32 (in the 2nd book?) is infamous for its hotness.
I've read all of them except the last one and i'm not sure why. I agree, I think it's ok, but nothing spectacular.
