After a divorce, Maddy, a 16-year-old manga loving gamer girl, moved to a small town in her grandmothers house with her mother and little sister. Her first impression to the "Haters", a popular clique, in her new school was a total disaster, so now her new nickname is freak girl. After being humiliated and feeling alone in her new school, her birthday comes up and her father sends her a computer game called Fields of Fantasy, a virtual game world where you can be anything you want and hide your identity. In the game, Maddy meets another game player that saves her from a pack of wolves and they become good friends online. Through gaming, she finds her confidence to stick up to the "Haters" and becomes a much more open person.
I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars because it's not very detailed about the other characters background and because the ending wasn't very upbringing and kind of predictable. Although,I would recommend this to younger readers because it's very cute in the romance genre and it's something that I think can happen to people in real life.
"If you can learn that now, it'll save you a lot of pain and trouble down the road."
This quote was said to Maddy by her mother when Maddy was at her sad deep end of cruel reality. I think it means if you learn from the past, then you can expect the outcome in the future.
This book reminds me of satire comedy because of the way the bully characters make fun or bring other kids down.
