Thanks. Tried to make you laugh with that last line.
I have two short stories on Amazon and editing a novelette.

Would you elaborate please? Thanks.

Here's what I wrote about black detectives

But I get the impression that story and writing is more important to you, while some readers want him to show what they believe are "black traits"?

I visited your blogspot link and agree with you. Back to the old thing of the Alex Cross being thin on plot ... again.
While I was there I read a sample of your 'The Dogs of Devonshire' on Amazon. Certainly grabbed me, not as hard as it grabbed Ashley though!
I don't have a kindle atm, but if/when I do get one, I'll be sure to get one of your stories.

Thanks a lot Linda. Your comments are also intelligent and make sense.

In the first book you get Hints of Mr cross as an angry Black man who's a victom in a white man's world. I only have read a couple of the sequels since the first book, But I'm sure that this is missing in the latter books.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

But do you see him trying to evolve from his problems or does Patterson decide not to go into detail with it.
That was the reason why I thought the first book was at least okay. It showed the Character being somewhat flawed.

I think Alex Cross has the capacity to be brilliant but the writing has become formulaic and even dreadful incidents, such as when his partner was kidnapped and assaulted, rather than being given full rein were treated more as just bumps in the road. 1 disaster, check. 1 death, check, etc
And flawed characters are the very best, I find. But we're not permitted to see the battle within him, and that is a shame for us, as well as the character.
Yes I agree. By the way what is his best cross book besides the 1st one

I really dislike 'I, Alex Cross'. I think that may well be the point at which I finally decide to drop out the Alex Cross franchise, regrettably.

"I, The Jury" started it, but Spillane only used the I title once and the title made sense.

James Patterson is, I read somewhere, increasing involved with his charity, encouraging young people to read, which is, of course, admirable. But I wonder, is that possibly why 'his' books are getting simplistic?

Good point

In one scene of "The Heat of the Night" Virgil Tibbs dislikes a rich Southern racist. He wants to "bring down that fat cat" so badly that it temporarily clouds his judgement of nailing the real murderer. Wouldn't this be a realistic flaw in Alex Cross?

Looked at your comment at thought: If Alex Cross was a shrink, would he not figured out that the killer may be hostile towards him and want to harm him? Therefore, would he not have been ahead of the bad guy in "Spider" and hid his family or set up a trap?
Instead the killer gets into his house where his family is. Are these the "dumb moves" you mean?

I recently heard about the Womens Murder Club. I'll check it out. Have to admit, I like the Bosch books someone mentioned, and I haven't seen a book someone mentioned and I didn't like.
