Sheila I have the book, one of my favorites and seen the movie. The movie I did not like at all. I didn't get what they were trying to accomplish in movie. The geography was wrong, some of the characters were off.

I read that book with the openness and the love of the husband and to wife. And how true friends get you through the rough parts and family too.

The movie was just flat to me. All in the eyes of the beholder.

Kim Tarry I read the book before I saw the film and it missed so much out of the film. I was pretty disappointed by it.

Lauren I have read the book and seen the movie, and I have to say the book is amazing but the movie was horrible. I lost all interest in the movie during the first twenty minutes. If you're interested in the story, skip the movie and just read the book.

Jayatri Bhttacharjee i have seen the movie as well as read the book !! i like the book much better !!! not that movie is not good...but the book keeps u hooked !! i liked it !!

Natalie Mc i saw the movie and the read the book, i found the book far better that the film.

The film is good but it's nothing compared with the book.

Tanya Chavez I LOVED the book. It made me laugh and cry at the same time. The movie, however, Sucked!

Camille the movie kinda sucked. the book is waaaaaaaay better!

I saw the movie several years ago. I picked up the book at a book exchange and when I started reading it, I thought "hmm I've seen a movie that is similar to this" but truthfully it wasn't until I went back to the move (which I own) that I realised it was the same one. The movie is very different from the book, in my opinion, and I think the book is much better.

Ericka The book was by far so much better than the movie!

All-Things-Books [Whairigail] Adored the book - hated the movie! x

Rebecca Feist I read the book first and it made me cry. I loved it!
Years later I watched the movie and it made me cry too, but in a different way! I liked the movie but the book was way better!!!

Mindy Liked the book but was a bit disappointed with the movie. Thought they had changed it too much.

Suraya Nordin I cry hardly while reading this book!

Nuala I loved the book partly because it was set in Ireland and it was a very moving story. The film was awful, acting rubbish and the Irish accents diabolical.Hollywood at it's worst, why mess up something good?

Irina Tolstousov Watched the movie, and read the book.

What can i say? I think one cannot compare these two.
This book made me cry and laugh at the same time.It is a wonderful book, very touching...

Megan I thought the movie was good, it was different to what I was expecting, they left out bits that I thought perhaps should have been in there, but it's never going to be exactly the same as the book. They made a good go of it, they had some great actors in it (I thought Gerard Butler was a PERFECT Gerry) and it's a lovely movie.

The book however is breathtakingly beautiful. It's deep, it's moving, it will make you laugh one minute and you will be reaching for tissues the next. I cannot describe how much more the book gives you, the writing is beautiful, the descriptions are amazing, the letters had me crying and it is a book you will want to read all over again. Stunning.

Rebecca Not a big fan of Hilary Swank, but I watched the movie first and love it for it's tearjerking qualities. Sometimes when I want to have a good cry I will watch it. I read the book after falling in love with the movie and I love it for different reasons. It still had the crying element, but it was set entirely in Ireland- which I loved. And I love Daniel's character better in the book although I have a thing for Harry Connick, jr lol. Both were great works though, for different reasons.

Sheila I agree with you Daniel's character was better in the book.
I just didn't like the idea the movie gas them in New York and the book in Ireland. Would of been great if they kept the geography right. Don't like Hillary Swank either.

Jessie the Bibliophile ♥ I read the book years ago when it first came out and absolutely loved it. Like i cried my eyes out most of the time, thats how much it got to me.
Then when the movie came out i was all excited to go see it because i remembered how much i loved reading the book. Well, sorry to say i was majorly disappointed. Too many things were changed for me and the thoughts behind the letters werent really displayed enough. A friend of mine who hadnt read the book didnt even understand why he knew he died because the explaining scene is way too short and halfway through the movie she asked me if he had killed himself.
I actually got the book again recently, i now finally OWN a copy so I will be reading it again very soon! :) Cant wait! <3

Josefine also wenn du mich fragst kann man beides getrennt betrachten. Der film verndert sie story so, dass es nicht mit dem buch zu vergleichen ist. ich mag beides. es ist sich ähnlich aber doch verschieden ^^

Mel I read the book as soon as it came out and loved it. I was so amazed that a young author could write with such hope. I know that not everyone enjoyed the book, but I really did think it was lovely. I continued to read more of Cecilia's works, but over time, her writing has diminished in power and presence. The movie bored me because I just found nothing attractive about Hilary Swank and just don't want to watch her on the big screen. But kudos for them for trying to make it come to life.

Donna they were ridiculously different. I dunno though I wasn't really a fan of either. I don't like books and movies where yo are forced to have an emotional response..

Mary McGowan When this book was first available in Ireland you couldn't board a bus, get a taxi, order a coffee or get a haircut without spying at least three noses stuck in the spine of this book!!! I had to have myself a slice of this epidemic!!! Being Irish I thought we were all just being patriotic to the author, plus she was the daughter of the leader of our government, but no it was because it was a phenomenal book, with a fabulous story behind it! When I heard that it was being made into a movie, I was dying to see it! Granted the film was great and I shed a tear or two...the book completely shadowed it! Read the book first, then see the film and read it again, I can assure you the book way out does the Hollywood hoopla!!!

Interesting. I think almost every book or movie has evoked an emotional response in me, whether it is happiness, sadness, anger, outrage...I think a book (or movie) that makes me feel nothing at all would be boring!

Tanya Harrison I read the book first and then I saw the movie years later. I must say that I like the book better, but I also enjoyed the movie. Your imagination, is usually better than a movie.

Fadwa Nicole wrote: "I read the book before I saw the movie, and I have to say that they're almost entirely different. The biggest difference is the location of the book, and the letters that she got. I loved the book ..."

I totally agree with you. It was like watching a different story than the book. I preferred the book, as always movies take away a lot of the essence of the original books.

Marjorie I'm not a hater. But I just didn't like the film nor the book.

Dulcina Borges the bookk was better den d movieee........
i loved d book it was awsome... made me cry a lotttt

Davina Randle i read the book before i saw the film, and they are quite different,, both equally emotional though,, apart from gerald butler though, i must say i prefered the book xxxx

sorry, I'm just seing this for some reason - sorry, maybe I phrased that weird, I meant, I don't like books or movies that TELL YOU how to feel about a certain situation or a certain, let me figure out how I feel about the situation (I thought Gerry was a jerk) don't attempt put feelings or emotions (i.e I am going to make this scene really sad so you can feel bad for Holly like you're supposed to.) into my brain that I might not agree with...it just felt forced to me sometimes.

Tanmayee Udawant I read the book before I wtchd the movie..book is much better than movie..n ya both r totally different ..(P.S.I LOVE YOU)

message 83: by Mala (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mala I read the book first and watched the movie.. and the book was better.

message 84: by Mara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mara Pemberton Wish that Cecelia would write and sequel to P.S. I LOVE YOU so that we can know where Holly is in her life at this point.

Sheila That would be neat to find out how Holly is getting along. But I feel that if they made a story out of it it wouldn't be the same. The story probably would be forced in someway.

message 86: by Mara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mara Pemberton I never said it had to be a movie. I didn't like P.S. I LOVE YOU the movie. I just would have liked sort of sequel.

message 87: by M.K. (new) - rated it 5 stars

M.K. Turner The book was better by far. I was very disapointed with the movie - although that probably wouldn't have been the case if I hadn't read the book. I feel the same about One Day

message 88: by Mara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mara Pemberton I did the same thing. I read the book first and fell in love with it. The movie did not even come close to what the book was about.

Shashi Chamling both book and movie are good enough!!

Abhimanyu Bansal The movie is good, but the book is definately better.
Though I liked the alterations in Holly and Daniel's part.

message 91: by Jo (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jo Piazza I read the book on a trip back from the UK way before I saw the movie and absolutely loved it. I didn't love the movie as much. I like Hillary Swank, but I just don't think she was what I had envisioned for the character and that might have put me off the movie a bit.

Fatima I haven't watched the movie but I've read the book. I didn't get the hype since in my opinion it was just OK. In fact Ahern's other books have been better.

message 93: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne I've read the book and seen the movie. I loved the book, got totally into the characters and was so moved by it. When I watched the movie I couldn't help feeling a bit disappointed by it - the book is so much better.

message 94: by Madhusmita (last edited Apr 25, 2013 10:34PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Madhusmita i read the book and then watched the movie. Both are different to a great extent, with addition/deletion of charcaters. for me the book was better.

Miranda Kerr-Bloom personally, the movie is great but the book is better. the book really gave me the feels. ahhahaha

Sarah Taylor I love this book, it was so emotional and such a good story! I did, however, hate the film! I turned it off after ten minutes and that was before I had read the book (usually people hate a film if they read the book first).

Yousra the film had some changes but both were amazing, and i loved the two!

message 98: by Pee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Pee Yvonne first i read the book and i watched the movie.. i enjoyed reading then watching movie... <3

Airize Have read the book but haven't seen the movie.. It was really a moving novel. Didn't sleep for days to finish that book..

The book is a 1000 times better than the movie. In the book it expresses the fact that Holly is lonely and how much he misses Gary and I think that's one of the most important bits of the story. The book is better in the way that you can take your time with understanding Holly, she's going through a tough time and just watching the movie might not express it fully. Additionally, the book and the movie are different; some of the things don't happen in the movie the way they are described and some just don't even appear. Lastly, The book lets YOU see it the way you want to and the way you can relate to it, whilst the movie shows the way the director sees it.
