Lindy (lindylee) | 51 comments has anyone found books with night and Columbus, festivals or any of the countries???

Robin | 263 comments I didn't mean to confuse anyone... lol
the book wasn't perhaps the best most highest scoring points book, it was just a book I happened to read that had the word "night" in it. I actually have another idea for a book I may read for this but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it work. I hope so though.

By make it work - I mean if I'll have time to read it. ;)

Lindy (lindylee) | 51 comments There are lots of books for these countries, but none i have found with the word Night or one of its substitutes in it. I did ofind one book for KY.

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) This one came up several places

Thayer, Geraldine. THE DARK RIDER. New York: Dell Publishing Co., 1961. 206 p. pbk.
Julie Pendleton had grown up on her father's Kentucky horse farm, and it seemed destined that she would marry the handsome, dashing son of a neighboring horse-raiser. "But amid the excitement of the approaching Kentucky Derby, fate took a confusing and frightening turn. A good-looking Yankee stranger made Julie's heart quicken dangerously, while a mysterious and cunning criminal threatened the Pendleton Derby entry. Suddenly, beautiful young Julie Pendleton was in a race of her own--against time and sinister evil."(1)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Thanks for the suggestions Shirley. The Dark Rider unfortunately won't count for this challenge though. Even if it does have a handsome AND dashing son in it.

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) This being my first challenge here I must not understand. Dusk is allowed but not Dark?

Certainly not trying to lead anyone down the wrong path. I am good at doing that.

Do these qualify?

After the Night (1995) Linda Howard

Deadly Night  (2008) Heather Graham

All Night Long (2005) Jayne Ann Krentz

Borrower of the Night (1973) Elizabeth Peters

Deadly Nightshade (Gardening Mystery, #2)
(1999) Mary Freeman

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Yup. All of those count.

And don't apologise, they can be tricksty these challenges. So the challenge is for the word NIGHT but I have conceded other words can be included for added ease. So I will accept twilight, dusk, evening as well. They describe the time the moon is up and the sun is down.

You can grab some extra points for the word dark if it is in the title describing your night-time. ie Dark Night, Long Night, etc.

I've just had a tidy up on his side of the bed & found Gaudy Night hiding there. Not read that in an age, probably because it's been hidden under the bed...

lol. Glad it's not just me who does that. P.S. That's a description of the night if you're point counting.

Lindy (lindylee) | 51 comments I am going to read on Monday for mystery Robert B Parker's Night and Day and for Memoir's Charles Kurault's ON the Road. I will start iwth the easy ones, since I can never finish it anyway since it is only a month.

Night And Day looks like it might be a fun read.

I picked up my choice, Night of the Ripper at the library the other day and I would love to dive into it right now. I've had a wonky week and some diversion would be nice.

message 70: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2562 comments Ok, so I have an excuse to read Midnight's Children this month now. How do the stars work--is it the goodreads average or what we give it? I'm going to have to get my points where I can find them on this one. Looks like this book isn't going to be worth much in points.

message 71: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2562 comments Fortunately this will probably be a 5 from everything I have heard about it. The temptation to grade inflation might be great otherwise...

message 72: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments This challenge looks great! I don't think I'll be able to participate this time around (I will try if I can!) But I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's choices.

message 73: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Good to hear Lindy, nothing like a good mystery novel!

Stalking around Victorian London's streets hunting serial killers sounds fun Janice.

I was tossing up Midnight's Children too Beth. And if it ends up being a 5 star read, all the better! Nice to read something that ends up being brilliant.

We'll miss you Kimberly.

And lastly for me, because I can't get enough of long large books I can't seem to finish in time limits, I'm going to go Night Watch. Get some Muscovite/Kazakhstani vampire action going on.

Beth, you will have to let me know how you like Midnight's Children. I read the first half and then put it down and have been reading other things. I keep meaning to pick it back it up, but other books seem much more enticing. I don't hate the book. It's actually kind of good. I really don't know what it is about the book that makes me not want to read it. I just can't put my finger on it.

Night Watch! Well that's a book that I might attempt (again, I already tried once and failed to get past the first 10 pages before having to return it..) for this challenge! I've been surprised with how few (aka none ^^) of my tbr-books have something with night in the title althought most of them are having their good share of nighttime.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I have chosen Midnight in Peking: How the Murder of a Young Englishwoman Haunted the Last Days of Old China Midnight in Peking How the Murder of a Young Englishwoman Haunted the Last Days of Old China by Paul French Paul Frenchas of now for this challenge. It has been on my tbr list for a long time, and this seems like a perfect time to read it.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Isn't it? LOL
I have also been looking at The Night Circus The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Erin Morgenstern, but it has so many negative reviews. It has been on my tbr list a long time, too; however, I do not know whether to take a chance on it. I may go to the library and check it out. I already own Midnight in Peking. Decisions, decisions! ; )

WOW! Almeta gave it 5 stars! Maybe I should give it a go? The bad thing about this group is that I keep adding to my TBR! LOL Anyway, 5 stars is very difficult to achieve and such a pleasure when you encounter one worthy of the rating!

message 87: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Katrina, I can definitely recommend the 10 pages I have read so far!

Oh no Lindy! You're better that me. I would have made many yelly phonecalls by now demanding my book back!

Connie, that title is ridiculous lol! But sounds like you have a challenger now.

message 88: by April (new)

oooops!

Rus, are you currently reading it?

Especially when you consider titles being re-used as well as looking similar. I found the title "Night watch" on our shelves by 2 different authors.

Night Watch Alistair MacLean's Night Watch
I might pick one, just to confuse that little bit more...

Is there a page limit specification in this challenge? This is under 200 pages.

message 100: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Stop making me checking the rules Janice! Jeez :P

"Pages:

500+ - 5 points
400-499 - 4 points
300-399 - 3 points
200-299 - 2 points
less than 200 - deduct 3 points"

So no limit but deductions.
