I ordered a copy from Dzanc Books a couple of weeks ago, so it seems back in print for purchase. Here is the site: https://www.dzancbooks.org/our-books/...

Happy reading!

Nick Voro (nickvoro) | 13 comments Hey Christopher,

I just got my copy from there. It arrived in rough shape. The front cover is messed up in spots. It needed way more bubble wrap for the weight of the item, especially when shipping to Canada.

P.S Update: I just wanted to add that their Customer Service is actually quite excellent. And they resolved this issue well.

But I will stick to my last point about the transparency of the paper. It's a bit bothersome. I wonder what the older Editions are like from other publishers. Perhaps someone can comment on this. If they are indeed better I will simply seek one of those copies out as well. My only issue with older Hardcover books, 10-20 years is the state of the glue binding. I would rather not spend $100 on a book that will crack. The Dzanc edition seems solid enough. For a softcover of this many pages, it seems like it would be perfectly fine over time. And there is that gorgeous cover design. If it wasn't for the translucent paper it might be the best edition for someone like me who typically avoids buying Hardcover novels.

Dan Wickett | 9 comments Good morning, everybody---a note regarding Hind's kidnap--Dzanc will be doing a paperback version of this similar to the W&M done in the past. Right now looking at August 2021. We will do our best to remember to shoot details your way as things continue to move forward. Have a great day. Dan

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up, Dan. I missed out on the signed copies of W&M so I'm hoping for a signed copy of Hind's Kidnap. I'll be on the lookout for more details.

Nick | 28 comments Just got an email from Dzanc about a new “collectors” hard cover edition of W&M being released, and they have a “very limited” amount of signed copies available for pre-order.

I just picked one up to support Joe and Dzanc

There’s also a coupon code “2020SNAG” for 20% off

Get one while you can.

Damn, thanks for the head's up. Nicest part is two volume (and a slipcase perhaps?)—will make reading a little easier on the wrists.

You're a hero for sharing this, Nick. Thanks so much! Preordered in time for my birthday. : )

Jason | 1 comments Now I'll have 5 copies of W&M. I don't know if Dzanc knows this but I'll keep buying copies as long as they keep releasing them.

Sorry for the trouble. If you're still interested, send me an email at michelle@dzancbooks.org - we can ship internationally, it's just a bit of a steep shipping cost.

Hey Michelle, is there going to be a slipcase for the two-volumes?

Thanks!

For whatever reason, producing slipcases is almost as expensive as producing the books. So as to keep the price somewhat reasonable, we're not doing slipcases - wish we could.

Perhaps if we order customs slipcases from someone in bulk, we could get some kind of deal?

Nick | 28 comments @George

You could always glue together some construction paper like Dalkey did for Bottom’s Dream lol

lmao! You're right, that box is pretty damn flimsy!

George (georgesaliswriter) | 21 comments I will be co-hosting a group read of Joseph McElroy's magnum opus Women and Men on Jan 22nd. So far about 15 people have signed up. It will involve GR discussions and only occasional Zoom meetings for real-time conversation. Let me know if you're interested. If you need a copy, Dzanc is selling a reasonably-priced paperback on their website here: https://www.dzancbooks.org/our-books/...

George (georgesaliswriter) | 21 comments Brilliant minimalism! That’s adapted from the chart on winds in the book and incorporates of course the gender symbols. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you like it, but I'm pretty underwhelmed. It's an improvement on the recent paperback and the terrible typographical choices there, but still just feels a bit uninspired and mismatched from how the book feels to me. Obviously, a cover isn't everything, but for a collector's edition, I was hoping for a really impressive and artful design.

I like its minimalism. Almost would have been better without the symbol in the middle, and maybe just type and dyed boards a la the ultramarine edition.

message 778: by Griffin (new)

Griffin Alexander | 14 comments the cover of the first edition is still my favorite though.

I'm with Griffin on the first edition cover being the best. The Dzanc paperback cover could have been my favorite had they used a font that doesn't look like some design program default.

The minimalism of this new cover belies the book's complexity but so does the book's title, in a way. I think it will look better on the physical book and I also think a minimalist cover is in some ways better than trying to top the boldness of the first edition cover. But I know what you mean. The perfect cover for WaM so far does not exist, if it could ever.

Nick | 28 comments Agree with Griffin on this... pretty awful design. I’m still looking forward to getting my copy - but yeah, a bummer for sure.

George (georgesaliswriter) | 21 comments Spent a lot of time on episode 2 of The Collidescope Podcast. Reading a story by Theroux. Totally different vibe from the Joe story. I'm very excited to share it with you all. In the meantime, here's the first episode for those who missed it, Night Soul by Joseph McElroy: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1849671

Just ordered one as well even though it seems too good to be true. Crossing my fingers for the next few weeks.
