I started After (After, #1) by Anna Todd which was originally a Harry Styles (from one direction) fan fiction, but besides the "band Members" (they have changed their names) being present in the book, I can't tell. The boys are just friends and not technically in a band, they go to college. So far it's intrigued me

Okay, so I am still getting my thoughts together on this book. I started and finished it last night. Like you, I had it on my bookshelf for a while and thought it might be an interesting YA read. I don't know if I would categorize it as fun (after putting the book down) though.

The protagonist, Ryden, lost his girlfriend, Meg, to cancer and gained their daughter, Hope. He has just gone through a traumatic life altering experience, so his disposition is understandable. Ryden spends the entire book trying to come to terms with her death and keeps trying to learn more about Meg and his own "parenting" style. I put parenting in quotes because he keeps referencing the fact that he doesn't believe himself to be a good father. That being said, he can be flippant and unlikeable at times due to the fact he has to much going on - as a reader it is hard to fault him for that, taking the circumstances into consideration.

I think the author did a good job of interweaving smaller details, foreshadowing, and crating multi- dimensional characters. Personally, I found some of the minor characters to be the best part. Meg's little sister and her best friend made the book for me. There is a decision at the end of the book (which I won't describe due to spoilers) but her sister's response made me laugh.

Also, there were details I found to be well-written; such as the main character's mother being a single parent (making her a grandmother at 35!), quick one-liners, and character relationships.

I will admit that at about page 182 or so, I knew the "twist." One hundred odd pages after that, it was revealed. I kept reading though, which is a major plus to the author - she kept me along for the ride.

I don't think this book will displace my YA favorites, but I did buy it (including it in my bookshelf) and finish reading the story.

I hope that helps. If you do read it, let me know because there are things I would LOVE to talk to someone about.
