Ági I cannot get past the third chapter of Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas . The MC is pissing me off already.

I'm also trying to read A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1) by Y.S. Lee . It's not so bad. But both books seem to be making the same mistake.
Why do so many authors tell us how incredible a character is instead of showing it to us by their actions? No, I don't want a secondary character to comment how smart and witty you are, I want it to be present in the way you carry a conversation. No, I don't want to be told of the great skills you have in >insert whatever here<. It means nothing if you don't use your skills anyway.>rant over<

I couldn't agree with your rant more! Hate it when an author tells the reader instead of showing. For me it's the difference between a great author and an okay one.

Hey about Throne of glass, the action really picks up after a while you should hang in there it will get better

Exactly. In YA it feels like the author thinks we, the readers (though I'm not a teen anymore, so I'm not the targeted demographic, but still), don't have the capacity to notice things and understand stuff ourselves. I take it as an insult to our intelligence.
In adult novels, it's simply unforgivable.

I'm not about to give up on it. I read great things, so I hope I will start enjoying it soon. Just something about the mc rubs me the wrong way, and since it's from her POV, I'm having a bit of a difficult time.

I'm reading City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5) by Cassandra Clare and I agree with Barb! An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir is very fast paced with lots of showing, not telling! I really enjoyed it!

I'm so excited that you are trying another M/M Romance and I absolutely loved that book!! Maybe I won't be the only M/M reader around here. hahahahahaha

It looks like I can't help myself and am going to read book 3 More Than Him (More Than, #3) by Jay McLean after finishing book 2. :D But I'm dying to start Red Dirt Heart 3 (Red Dirt, #3) by N.R. Walker for my pick it for me challenge and I'm using it for my other challenges. Plus, my son is reading To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee in school, so I'm doing a re-read (it's been 30 years), so I can help him and use it for the 2015 Challenge. Always too much to read and not enough time!!

I thought it was really good. The M/M thing didn't bother me. It reminded me a lot of Him, but since Sarina Bowen wrote that one too, it makes sense. I think she's good at addressing all sorts of issues and sex doesn't matter.

message 2922: by Ági (new)

Ági Okay, after days I finally finished with A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1) by Y.S. Lee . I think sometimes I'm too kind with ratings, but I'm really torn.

So now I'm starting with An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir ! Can I just say that I love maps? I think it's the first most important thing in a fantasy novel.

Chris wrote:

It's been optioned for a movie in 2013. I don't know of any other developments, but according to the author things are moving along.

Yes, a 5* book for me, but every book I've read to date of Amy Harmon has been 5 stars. Like Barbara mentioned Making Faces is my favorite, but I would recommend any of her books.

So glad you enjoyed The Understatement of the Year. It was similar to "Him" but

Yeah! It's so nice to actually have real visual of the world building, it's what I missed the most from the Hunger Games series.
Thanks! I'll definitely check your shelves out! But I have waaaay too many books I want to read as it is. I haven't heard about the Covenant series before. I just hope they stay true to the books. I really hated The Duff movie. That was not at all what the book was about. So just no.
