I had to laugh at Zoya: Megan Fox! Definitely agree about Shiloh as the Darkling. Do you think they would go with older casting though? Or will it try to follow more in the "Twilight"/"Hunger Games" fan base area.

That's a good question because like Vampire Academy just casted and they choose a closer to character age cast, like 18 yrs old. Since Darkling is said to look about 25, I think they'll cast Alina older.
After seeing Game of Thrones, I am now 100% rooting for Emilia Clarke for Alina.
I've never come across that Shiloh guy before, but he looks just perfect! What else has he been in?I love Emilia Clarke from GoT, but I think she's a bit too utterly gorgeous for Alina. Bear in mind that she's meant to look quite plain to begin with and my reading is that even once she's started using her powers she's meant to look pretty rather than unbelievably beautiful. Certainly Genya and possibly Zoya should look more attractive than her, and you'd struggle to get any actresses outshining Emilia!
Oh I would love Judi Dench as Baghra, though I can't imagine she'd do it.
I'm not sure of her name, but I'd quite like to see the actress who plays Lady Mary in Downton as Zoya.
No idea for Mal, I've never been able to get a good mental image of him.
I am so stoked for the movie! I loved the book so much. It was hard to put it down lol. Can't wait to start reading Siege and Storm! Here's who I saw while reading: Alina- Saoirse Ronan

Darkling: Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries), Seriously, there isn't anyone more perfect for this role. He's dark, gorgeous, and we already know he's great at playing a mysterious character who can be quite evil. Others think Aidan Turner (Being Human) would be another option. Genya: Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) or Molly Quinn (Castle) Both are beautiful and absolutely lovable.
Alina: The perfect option would be Emma Watson (Harry Potter & Noah). It's kind of shockingly obvious when you think about it. Other options are Saoirse Ronan (Hanna & Lovely Bones), Anna Popplewell (Lion,Witch,&Wardrobe), or Analeigh Tipton (Warm Bodies).
Mal: Sam Claflin (Snow White & The Huntsman), Lucas Till (X-men: First Class), I also really like Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) but he's likely too old. :( Either way, I would like to see Mal more beefy. A lot of actors around the right age are too thin.

For the Darkling I can only imagine Dylan O'Brien, especially considering his great performance as the Nogitsune in Teen Wolf. Just look up his scenes on YouTube. Still a bit young but when they finally start filming he should be 25.

Love all the suggestions but some of the darlkling suggestions look a little old. Also I always pictured mal as blond for some reason- idk why! SUPER EXCITED FOR THE MOVIE!!!

Personally I would like to see some new but talented faces for the cast but also worthy of the roles. I also want them to be true to the books

I really feel like no actor could capture the beauty of the Darkling, Zoya or Genya, though I feel like Sophie Turner could fit the role of Genya..................

You're welcome! Ben Barnes is perfect as The Darkling for me, I mean he's really good at being a bad guy in Westworld and The Punisher so I'm confident he'll be something to watch!
I’m genuinely curious. I read Shadow and Bone back in 2012. I didn’t use social media back then but now I’m wondering which actors Leigh Bardugo originally fan cast for Shadow and Bone. I know she mentioned Adelaide Kane for Alina, Matthew Bell and I think Kaya Scodelario for Zoya. Anybody know who else? Again, I’m just curious! I find it so interesting to see how an author’s vision changes over the years :)edit: I've been going through her twitter from years ago - she mentioned Saoirse Ronan as Alina and also Sam Claflin as Mal!
its so funny looking at this now and seeing that ben barnes was the only fancast that stuck and actually came true (+ it's really weird to see people fancasting white actors as zoya and alina now)

For me, I can see several people for the roles. Many come from MTV's Teen Wolf, but I really think they'd be great for the role! Keep in mind that most likely, they're going to cast older, too.
