I Googled that, but it's not the series. The anthologies looked like a set of encyclopedias - each volume was a lot longer than your average children's book.

It was a story in a children's anthology - there was a whole set of books (sort of like an anthology), no idea what they were called, but the spine of each book was a different color. This story was in an orange one, and I want to say it was book 2 of a set of at least 6. (Book 3 was dark blue. I love that I remember THIS but not the name of the story.) Each book in the anthology was a few hundred pages long.
The story was about a little girl who I want to say was named Molly, and she got a kitten that she named Nonesuch. I think each chapter was another month and it covered the span of a year. That's about all I remember about it, other than that I loved it.
I was reading this in the early 1980s, and the books were definitely not new by any stretch of the imagination - it was an old anthology set at my grandmother's house.
If anyone miraculously knows what I'm talking about, I will adore you.
