Vi | 943 comments Oh, hope you enjoy your re-read, Zina! Couldn't abide pink-Mac myself. Bleh!

Also an update from my side - next Tuesday is Diwali in India and it's a huge festival for us especially since it's my first since I married. I'm leaving to my in-laws place tomorrow. I'll check in on Sunday and do my best to read if the winning shelf is called. I have a Harry Potter book on standby (DTB) since it's bound to fit most of shelves.

message 354: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Have a great time. Your culture has many festivals doesn't it. I think that is so awesome.

Yes the vacation time passed fast. I loaded up my ereader with lots if books and I am taking the one for our current winning shelf. Haven't been on a vacation like this since 2007. Do well deserved.

Yes as to Mac she does/did drive me nuts. Re reading cause Iced is now out. Unlike many I actually enjoyed Dani maybe the re reading will change that.

Have you read Discovery of Witches or Shadow of Night. Those two I want to read while away. Discovery is re read as well.

message 355: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 634 comments Mac bugged me too, as did the fact she kept going on about "I'm not really a waitress" pink nail varnish. Funny cause that stuff is actually red. I spend too much time on OPIs site.

I know. I keep checking her FAQs and all it says is that she won't necessarily write a book for all of the Seven. All I want is Bluebell to get a HEA and to find out more about Aodhan. Grrrrrr. It's like Hawke all over again!

Lynn Bourke (mrsb1968) Book: Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer
Shelf: Favorite Series
Read: 5th November 2012
Rating: **
Review: I couldn't wait to finish this book!!! I found it so dull and boring after some of the other books I've read recently. There is way too much description, and too many looks across the dining hall...and all I could picture in my head was Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart - yuck! Don't think I'll be in any rush to read the rest of this series...

message 358: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Bourke (mrsb1968) I'm reading Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton for the Dark Fantasy shelf...

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments I'm one of the few who haven't read Darkfever...sounds like it's worth it? (Except heroine is annoying at times?)

message 360: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Oh yes, ZIna! We have quite a few and they come close together like this in the second half of the year.

Wow, that's a looong time, Zina! You'd really need this time off :) Loading your e-reader with lots of books is the best idea. Nothing can beat that!

I too liked Dani! Impetuous but stil likable. I have decided not to read Iced ever since I heard it had a cliff hanger. Not a fan of them or waiting 2 years for them to complete.

DoW is on my TBR - I haven't read them yet. I've heard only mixed reviews about them. Did you like them, ZIna?

Vi | 943 comments @Nairabell

LOL, I didn't know that. I didn't even know that polish was real. I thought it was made up :O

Nalini Singh's website doesn't tell us any info about the next books except that the next in that series will be back Raphael & Elena. I also think the Psy-C will be ending in about 4? books.

message 362: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Rachel - if you can get through annoying heroine for about two books while she grows and matures, then it's worth it. BUT you have to go till book #3 at least. Lot of people I know actually liked the first two books. I didn't (gave it 2 stars) but the peeps at RRRC made me continue in spite of that.

message 363: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Lynn - LOL! I read before the movie and I'm so glad I did. Otherwise I'd be picturing them too and I totally don't want to. Just make your next read something good so that you can enjoy! :)

Only four more Psy???? Noooooo! I love that series...although I suppose I'd rather it end while I still love it *grumble grumble*.

Though actually starting to like Dmitri more now I'm finding out more about him - I think I'm about halfway through. Now I just need to figure out where the heck my niece hid my "nakedy naked" book (didn't realise kidlets really do repeat absolutely everything you say) so I can read Archangel's Storm and be all up to date.

And yep - it really is a nail varnish, apparently one of OPIs most famous. I only noticed as I'd been trying to track down a colour I had a manicure done in and got distracted playing on their site just before I started reading.

ETA: As I'm a nerd...

...definitely NOT pink lol :)

message 365: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 634 comments Lynn - I'm with Vi. I read the books before seeing the movie and I'm soooooo glad. My Edward and Bella do not look like the actors and I'm so glad I got to have my own impressions first.

I'll be interested to see what you think about Guilty Pleasures. It's been years since I read that!

message 366: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 634 comments Rachel - they are worth reading. I think I rated Darkfever at four stars because although Mac needs to be smacked upside the head, I really liked the world building, other characters and the Guinness. Anything set in Dublin must have Guinness :)

I liked this one. One thing I liked was the alternating chapters between present day and 6 years ago. Sometimes it doesn't work, but in this book I thought it did. I feel I should have seen the end coming, but it was a nice "oh yeah, THAT explains it." And of course it's a HEA.

Nairabell | 634 comments Book: Archangel's Blade (Guild Hunter, #4) by Nalini Singh
Shelf: Dark-Fantasy
Rating:★★★★★
Date Finished: Nov 8
Review: I wasn't sure how much I'd like this as Dmitri has been a bit of a jerk in Elena & Raphael's books but I really enjoyed it. I loved his backstory and how Honor gradually recovered from her ordeal. Had she met Dmitri and suddenly said "I'm fixed by your manly awesomeness, to the bedroom!" I'd have been really annoyed but instead the book showed how she balanced her emotions with her mental scars.

Lynn Bourke (mrsb1968) Book: Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton
Shelf: Dark fantasy
Read: 11th November 2012
Rating: ****
Review: I really enjoyed this book! There were so many twists and turns, and the main character, Anita, was easy to follow, although I'm still debating if she is actually human or not...The book was easy to read, with lots of interesting characters - another series on the 'To Read' list!

message 385: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Bourke (mrsb1968) Think I'll actually read Deadly Captive (Deadly Captive, #1) by Bianca Sommerland for the 2012 shelf - 2 people have shelved it on there, so it's safe! It's a BDSM/erotica novel, so going away from the UF/PNR stuff I've read recently...even though there are vampires in there...

Vi | 943 comments Mariana by Susanna Kearsley

Book: Mariana by Susanna Kearsley
Shelf: 2012
Rating:★★★★
Date Finished: 13 Nov 2012
Review: Kearsley writes such awesome time travel books. I'm usually not a fan of TT myself but somehow, Kearsley does it for me. Julia Beckett an illustrator for children books makes an impulse decision to buy the 17th century house Greywethers after stumbling upon it 3 times in her lifetime. Once she moves in and settles, she starts to time-travel to 17th century and experience the life of Mariana Farr in sporadic bursts. Turns out that she is the reincarnation of Mariana Farr. And she has to experience that portion of Mariana's life completely before she herself can move forward with her life.

The book doesn't really tackle reincarnation. It just assumes there is. The flashbacks are very close to seamless and the narration made it very easy. My only gripe was the ending was a little abrupt. The best thing is that I loved it as much as I first read it.

I enjoy this series for it's light humor. Glad that Colleen gets her HEA in this one too. A favorite quote: "graveyard dead." An annoyance: calling lunch dinner. ie: "I meant to run up to the cafe for dinner..." (it closes at 2pm). Book takes place in Texas, southern thing?

Nairabell | 634 comments Book: Montana Sky by Nora Roberts

Review: I wasn't sure what I'd think of this as I liked the movie and had heard the book was different. It kind of is, but is mostly just depth of the story (1 bonding scene in the movie is 4/5 in the book). It's also really creepy to read from the bad guy's perspective.

Review: Fantastic! I was unsure how I was going to like Daemon because I liked Dawson so much in Shadows and well he wasn't the most pleasant person in it. And yes he's still acting like an asshat but I didn't mind it. It helped in the tension development between him and Katy. Which is always plus for me.

As I read this I was literally laughing out loud, some of the digs where just great. So can't wait to read the next book.

Review: I just couldn't get attached to the main characters in this book. There was a definite story, and lots of events - and even too much sex going on!!! I just felt detached whilst reading it, and couldn't get into it at all. I felt that there should have been more about Lydia's background, and I didn't learn enough about 'Joe' to feel any empathy towards him. Hmmmm...
