Shutter Island

In Shutter Island, a federal marshal named Teddy Daniels and his partner, Chuck Aule, another federal marshal, go to Shutter Island, an insane asylum, to try and solve a mystery. One of the patients has escaped from her cell, and nobody can figure out how, so the two marshals investigate. When the facts don’t add up, Teddy and Chuck become suspicious, and start to look around the island to see if anything is being hidden. However, some patients tell Teddy that everyone is going to turn on him, and lobotomize him to do experiments on him. Teddy tries to escape the island, but is captured, and is told that he is actually a patient on the island, and needs to accept this, instead of believing he is a marshal, or he will actually be lobotomized. He admits that he is a patient on the island, but goes back to believing he is a marshal the next day, and there is no clear ending after that.
The author uses suspense and plot twists to make the book interesting at all times. One second the reader thinks that Teddy and Chuck are on their way to solving the mystery, the next the reader thinks Teddy is being hunted down to be a victim of the asylum’s experiments, and the next the reader is waiting to see what “Teddy’s” fate will be depending on who he says he is.

Not my favourite Lehane book. It was satisfactory but not wonderful. Lehane is a good author which is why I gave it as many stars as I did when reviewing it.

Because most people who see this actually read the book already or they're currently reading it or whatnot.

I, on the other hand, liked the book and the movie. I thought the book was cleverly written.
