Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I know several people that set reading goals for a month or year. For me, I am not that goal orientated. I like to read, but I never decide I am going to read x number of books, nor do I worry about my TBR books on GR. I usually just go to the library, when your retired buying books especially new ones is a waste of money. What is it for you? Do you read the TBR books and do you set reading goals?

Jonetta (ejaygirl) I set an annual reading goal based on how many books I'm reading each month. I don't really sweat trying to achieve it...it's just a way for me to see how I'm faring compared to the previous year. I do worry, however, about my TBR shelf, primarily because of the number of series I've got going that I don't want to lose track of or have too long of a span of time between books. My TBR is pretty out of control but I'm loving that I've got so many books to choose from. I do have a monthly plan of what I want to read and must admit that pushes me more than anything else.

Dana (dapperd) | 136 comments I set a reading goal for myself, mainly because I like that shiver of satisfaction each time I go to my home page and see the progress. I actually set a really conservative goal of 75 books this year, when in actually I probably read double that in any given year.
I try to be realistic with my TBR shelf. I go through it about once a month and weed out any books that I have lost interest in, couldn't remember why I tagged it, etc. This keeps my TBR list around 50 books or so.

I primarily buy my books at thrift stores, on my kindle app or through Amazon. When ordering the books, I try to order what is up next on my TBR list. Of course, this is skewed when I pick up random books at thrift stores or the library.

Debby Harrison | 227 comments I'm kind of like Dee. My mom keeps me well stocked in books. She likes to read a lot so whenever she reads a book she gives it to me. I try for a book a week but that is definately not written in stone or even sand. Sometimes it is only a book a month, sometimes it is six or eight a month. I really don't keep track.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments No, if I did I`d rebel and probably not read at all.Since I read to relax I could never pressuer myself like that.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I would too Kathy Anne. BTW, did you have a nice birthday?

❤️ Dorsey aka Wrath Lover Reviews ❤️ My goal this year is 150 books.....I am on 129.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) My reading goal for this year here on GR was 203 and I've read 211 so far.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments That is wonderful both Pamela and Dorsey. I am not that disciplined. I read a lot I just don't keep track

❤️ Dorsey aka Wrath Lover Reviews ❤️ Well its easy to keep track of when you set your goal on GR's, it keeps track for you otherwise I would not know how many books I've read so far LOL.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) I couldn't keep track if not for GRs myself.

totally agree! I've always wondered how many books I go through in a year...I love how GR organizes everything for me.

Pamela aka Scottieluvr (scottieluvr) I enjoy setting up a reading goal on GR. I didn't make it last year; caught a really bad cold in December so missed my mark by 45 books. This year I will commit to reading one book a week, but will most likely exceed it. :) Its a fun thing to do with something I adore.

Good luck on your goal Pamela!!

Lyn Davis (lynrdavis) | 17 comments Reading is one goal I never set. It happens. Daily.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Good luck on your goal Pamela, but I am more like you Lyndsey. If I made a goal I would lose all the fun out of reading.

message 18: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (meloria54) | 13 comments I don't set a goal, but I probably should set a limit. I read A LOT - maybe a book a day. I don't do TV or movies or whatever. Reading IS my entertainment. Woohoo!

message 19: by Angela (new)

Angela I did set a Goodreads goal last year. One time to challenge myself was enough. I'm proud of how much I read, but I won't set another.

message 20: by Suzy Manning (new)

Suzy Manning I'm with Cheryl. I should set a limit. I am retired and as a cancer survivor have energy limitations so spend most of my time inactive. I read 5-8 books a week. My TBR pile is a bookcase that is 6 ft tall, 30 in wide and 12 in deep. There are approx 300 books in it. Linda Howard books usually go to NIL instead od TBR. Next-In-Line has about 10 books at present time.

Roberta (Always Behind) (bookworm51) I missed my GR goal last year, but hope to make it this year, as I plan to retire in May.

Dianna (yuccacat) | 4 comments I think I was 17 books over my goal of 200 last yr.
depends on what is going on in my life..I lived in Asia & winters were long so more reading..I think this yr. will be the same my Mr. leaves for Afghanistan in 8 days so I can bet I will exceed my goal again for this yr.

Madeleine Richards I do set goals each year and so far I've made them. Last year my goal was 250 books, I was over by 33. This year may be different however, as I have just discovered how much I enjoy Blogging my reviews and getting that fine tuned is taking a lot of my time. So I have only set a goal of 150 books for 2013.
Madeleine

Valie (valiemartin) | 80 comments Like each year, I set a goal of 100 books.

I read 102 books in 2012 but 'only' 85 in 2011. It doesn't really mean anything because if I look at my stats, I read more pages in 2011 than in 2012 ...
