Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) | 0 comments Author Liz Crowe requested that I delete the books listed in her Brewing Passion series. She has purchased the rights to the books from her publisher and will be re-releasing them next year with different covers & isbn #'s. I've deleted the series, however, due to the # of reviews I can't deleted the actual books. Can a superlibrarian please delete all editions of the following books for me?

Jockey Box
The Tap Room
Specific Gravity
XXXmas Ale
The Rookie

Thanks a million,

Alyssa

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments We do not delete books that are currently out-of-print or otherwise being re-released. See post #2 in this thread.

Jessica | 963 comments Alyssa, even though they are not for sale anymore under a publisher they absolutely DO NOT get deleted.

Users have shelved and read these editions. How would you feel if the book you read got deleted?

The series should also not have been deleted.

How would you continue with the series once the books are re-released with different covers & ISBN's? Would you list the old, as well as the new? How would that work when assigning series order? I can remake the series if its that big of an issue. I was just trying to honor the authors wishes, neither of us realized it couldn't be done or was against the rules. I'm sorry for the trouble.

Thank you both for your response and link.

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Just as many of her works have a Kindle, eBook and Paperback edition - a re-release would be another edition.

Assuming she is re-releasing them with the same series numbering, this will not disrupt anything. If the series is being re-numbered, we would look at it in a case-by-case basis to see what would work best for that particular case.

Thank you Vicky :) They will have the same series #'s, that will be the only thing staying the same. So when we get the new ISBN, cover & Publisher - I would just create a new edition with the new info and then merge it with the old, is that right?

Again, I appreciate all of your help!

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Yes - except that you want a combine and not a merge.

A combine adds to the overall work by adding a new edition.

A merge deletes one book and merges the shelves/reviews from the deleted edition into another edition.

Got it! Thanks again ♥

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) If the titles of the books are changing between the old and new versions, I'd add a librarian note to the combines, so nobody comes in behind you and accidentally separates them.

Audrey (odderie) | 48 comments Can I ask for advice on how to approach an author friend who updated an original edition with the new edition info, thus removing the old info?

So they have effectively deleted a book from the database? Tell them that all the people who had shelved the old book now have the wrong book on their shelves. Tell them to change it back and add a new edition record for the new edition.

If they don't fix it, post a link to the book here and we will sort it out.
