Sayrah (sarahjean58) | 15 comments I have read EVERYTHING that Isaac Asimov has written. I love him! Does anyone know of an author with a similar writing style? I have tried several authors and have a hard time getting into the books. I'm reading Ender's Game right now, which is good, but would like some other suggestions.

Sayrah (sarahjean58) | 15 comments Thanks guys! I've read one of Heinlein's books after my cousin recommended him. It was Number of the Beast. I had a really hard time getting into it. Is this one of the good ones or weird ones?

Alterjess | 319 comments Number of the Beast is pretty much THE weird one, on a scale of 1 to WTF.

When I was in my Heinlein phase, my favorite was Time Enough for Love, but I think The Moon is a Harsh Mistress has held up better over time.

Orphans of the Sky might be another good starting point, since it's nice and short.

Joseph | 2433 comments Or most of the Heinlein juvenile novels -- Space Cadet, Citizen of the Galaxy, Tunnel in the Sky, etc., etc.

(If you don't mind a certain amount of 1950's attitude from time to time.)

Scott (smchure) | 47 comments I share Asimov's birthday, so it was required reading for me! I read the Foundation Trilogy in 8th grade, then read it again later when I was old enough to actually wrap my brain around it.
H. Beam Piper and Clifford D. Simak were contemporaries, and had relatively similar styles to Asimov. Simak wrote both fantasy and science fiction. What I remember of Piper was all SF.
Maybe Roger Zelazny, although he can be a bit obscure at times. Try the Chronicles of Amber series, starting with Nine Princes in Amber. He also has several excellent standalone books, like This Immortal, and especially Lord of Light.
Also Fred Saberhagen. He's similar to Zelazny but is an easier read. His Swords series (The Complete Book of Swords et. al.) and Dracula series are great reads, and he also has several standalone novels. He may be best known for his Berserker series (machine intelligence out to destroy humanity), but I haven't really read much of that.
