I've finished in these days Don Quixote, a very good collection of adventures around this character. Currently I'm reading Pale as the Dead, a good mistery, light and no scary.
I'm reading The Maltese Falcon, an enjoyable novel. Finished this I think I could try with Philip Marlowe.
I am reading the Kerry Greenwood bake shop series and really enejoying them, I also enjoy her Phynne Fisher books, they are quirky and I enjoy quirky.
My PBS station has introduced us to the "Miss Fishers Mystery". I Love them and the actors are superb, especially Miss Fisher. It's interesting they take place in Australia.
I have seen all the Miss Fisher series, really good, I have an added interest, my son lives in Australia
After finished The Big Sleep, the first Marlowe I ever read, now I'm reading Smoke and Mirrors and The Drawing of the Three.
I am thinking of reading Stella Stafford's Little Wychwell Mysteries. Has anyone else read her books?I finished Still Life: a Chief Inspector Gamache Mystery by Louise Penny.
Thanks,
Nancy
Victoria, TX
I have only read one of the Inspector Gamache books, which was OK, but not quite my thing. I did see that she has another one out in August - The Long Way Home.
The series had a background theme in all of them and it culminated with the last one, I will be interested to see if the next one continues to allude to the theme.
Thanks for the info about the Gamache book in August. I love this series. I thing you have to read the series starting with the first.
Just read
For anyone who wants to read a change of pace - this is a satirical spoof of "village" mysteries. The protagonist even has a checklist to go by, including obtaining an animal sidekick. Not my usual read but very funny and well written. I much preferred it to GM Malliet's Death of a Cozy Writer which is along the same vein.
That sounds like a fun read and I'm going to order it. Just finished "LOVE STORY WITH MURDERS" by Harry Bingham. Excellent story line and a very quirky new detective.
I have made a note of the book and will ask the library about it, we cannot always get titles because of the cut-backs
Wow, my library had it so I ordered it. Thanks for the suggestion. I too need a break from some of intense books I seem to read.
Susan wrote: "That sounds like a fun read and I'm going to order it. Just finished "LOVE STORY WITH MURDERS" by Harry Bingham. Excellent story line and a very quirky new detective."That series looks really interesting. I put the first one on my TBR list.
Judith wrote: "I am reading the Kerry Greenwood bake shop series and really enejoying them, I also enjoy her Phynne Fisher books, they are quirky and I enjoy quirky."I loved her Corinna Chapman series.
DianeAlice wrote: "That cozy mystery spoof sounds fun, ideal for when you've been bingeing on heavy thrillers."I tend to alternate heavier and lighter reads, with heavier reads being thrillers or darker mysteries or nonfiction and lighter reads being cozies, women's fiction or something funny.
A couple of days ago I finished The Drawing of the Three. The Dark Tower is a great series by King, this novel better than previous. I hope to finish all books before the end of the year. Now I'm reading The Number of the Beast. Funny book.
Ihave just finished Linwood Barclay's No Time to Say Goodbye, it was really good, typical of his plots but good anyway
Judith wrote: "Ihave just finished Linwood Barclay's No Time to Say Goodbye, it was really good, typical of his plots but good anyway"I enjoyed that one of his, too, Judith. I won a pre-proofed copy in a prize draw just before it came out! I love the twist at the end... Can't remember the exact ending, come to think of it, but I remember it was good. I'd be happy to read it again but I've got too much else waiting on my TBR pile!
Judith wrote: "All of his books are like that, real page turners, isn't it good to have a lovely TBR list?"Definitely! There's something very warm and comforting about it! Have a good weekend. :-)
Just finished Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay, it was really good, I enjoyed every page, one of his best I think.
A Short Film About Serial Killing. I started it last night. It seems OK so far but still a little undecided.
I love the Stuart MacBride books, they can get a bit gory at times but the charactors are very entertaining, I always make a bee line to be first on the list when they come into the library.
The SilkwormI'm starting Silkworm. I know everyone didnt love her last book, so lets see how this one goes.
I'm coming to the last few chapters of Broadchurch by Erin Kelly....must admit I love it...picturing the tv show all the way through. Excellent programme, brilliant book to go with it :)
I finished 'Salem's Lot and I'm reading Song of Susannah. In November I could finish 'The Dark Tower' series.
I have been introduced to the Inspector Bruno boos by Martin Walker, they are really good, set in France they have good solid mysteries with a thread of humour running through them, I can highly recommend them.
I've finished And Another Thing... and now I'm reading Pet Sematary. Considering the latest books, this is the year of Stephen King for me.
Currently reading John Katzenbach: Red 1,2,3. Stand alone. A value book from Amazon US....
$1.99. Can't put it down.
I've decided to read some horror books this month. So I'm reading The Shining and American Vampire, Vol. 1.
I'm reading Jojo Moyes Me Before You. This is the 2nd book of hers I have read and enjoyed. A little change of pace.
