Got this book (Awakening) after I saw it mentioned here...finished in 2 days...was very good!

The Cry, by Helen Fitzgerald. It is not so larf out loud funny as some of her earlier books but very suspenseful & has her usual off the wall characters. I am so grateful to this group for introducing me to Helen.

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) One Door Away from Heaven by Dean Koontz
5 of 5 stars

Many stories within this story-exciting and thoughtful suspense with very unusual characters. All characters became real to me-one of the enemies especially real, in fact as real as the visiting extra-terrestrial! At first this book seemed a bit scattered but if you continue reading you begin to know that Mr. Koontz will as usual pull it all together. He again champions the weak, disabled, feeble minded persons and recognizes the worth of all that strive to be kind and good. Simplistic review but this is one of my favorites from Koontz. Constant suspense.

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) | 554 comments I'll be starting Ghost in the Machine when I finish my current book. Just finished Beyond the sky and Earth Beyond the Sky and the Earth A Journey into Bhutan by Jamie Zeppa

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) I am reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Frederic P. Miller. Beautiful story narrated by 9 year old boy who lost his father on 9/11/01. That day touched me to my very core so I am finding it quite emotional to read but so far I am loving it.

Also finishing up Lost Souls by Dean Koontz. Not really liking it much . It is 4th book of his Frankenstein series and maybe he should have stopped with third book-this one seems more of the same. I expect more from Koontz but with writing close to 100 books-I guess you are entitled to a few bombs!

message 58: by Mary (new)

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) Wings of Fire by Charles Todd I really liked this authors' book for October Read.

And Dead Town-final book of Dean Koontz Frankenstein series.

Today on Kindle, there is a great bargain. Camilla Lackberg's first three books are $1.99 each. The Ice Princess, The Preacher, and the Stonecutter. I read the Ice Princess. One of my favorite books this year. Great bargain to take advantage of.

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) The December read The Blackhouse by Peter May--am hoping it picks up soon. Feels like a school assignment so far...ha

message 61: by Karon (new)

Karon | 1 comments I really enjoyed The Blackhouse by Peter May and went on to read the other two in the series.

message 62: by [deleted user] (new)

Blackdog: A Cooper & Fry Mystery is on Kindle for .99. First in the series. I'll be reading it soon.

Lynda Wilcox (lyndawrites) Just finished The Braque Connection by Estelle Ryan. Third in the series and just as good as the first two. 5*

Now re-reading Five Little Pigs my all time favourite Agatha Christie - and, yes, I've read them all.

Decided I needed to read a really good book so decided to read it again. Cruz Smith never disappoints and Renko is one of my favour..."

I have Wolves Eat Dogs. Hopefully, that's a good one.

I am probably biased as I think they are all brilliant. Wolves Eat Dogs is the 5th Renko book.
Don't worry it can be read..."

I read Gorky Park years ago. I'll check out the others. Thanks.

message 67: by Mary (new)

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) Reading N or M? which is a relief-seems like I have been reading a lot of dark books lately.

Also Innocence by Dean Koonts--I think it is good but have been very scattered lately so reading this one in little bits--I will have to start it over as I think I have lost the storyline.

Also finishing up The Dead Town, also by Dean Koontz--it is the last of his Frankenstein series--Book 5, I think but He could have written in maybe 3?

Mary, N or M? should definitely lift your mood

I've just started reading The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I've read a few quotes from it, about reading and writing, that really appealed to me. So I'm hoping to enjoy this read.

Candace | 7 comments I don't usually post, just 'lurk' normally! But I like to keep up with what you all are reading. Anyway, I am currently reading 'Sacrifice' by S.J. Bolton. I discovered her when you all were reading 'Now You See Me' and she is now one of my new favorites. This is the fifth book by her I am into...she has great plots, an easy style and good characters!

I love her books as well. I also "discovered" them when we read Now You see me. I think I have read 4 so far.

Nikkiplans99 | 68 comments I liked the thirteenth tale alot. It was different from my normal reading at the time. I have a long commute to work so I listen to one book in the car and I read on the weekends. I'm listening to The Winter Sea which I'm really enjoying and I just started The Book Thief.

Oh my-The "lurker" is posting! I would be curious to hear what you think of the Book Thief...I like the sound of it.

Julie | 98 comments Nikki, I too have been "bullied " by Mary into participating and you can't shut me up now. So, beware it can become an addiction. Just kidding though, Mary! Nice to see comments from the "lurkers" out there. Pretty much everyone is looking for their next great read, so all input is valued.

message 78: by Nikkiplans99 (new)

Nikkiplans99 | 68 comments It turned the corner for me about half way through. The lead female character was very whinny to me and I hate that. But she got better as the story went on.

I'm new to book clubs so I'm learning to speak up as time goes on. :)

I have not read A Casual Vacancy or Harry Potter, so I am not familiar with J.K. Rowling's writing style, so I am going in blind. Will let you know my thoughts.

I did finish Siege by Simon Kernick and really enjoyed it. This was my review.

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) I am struggling to get through Innocence by Dean Koontz-I usually love anything he writes but this one is just putting me off. About half way through and don't know the storyline yet. Reviews are great so not sure what problem is. I am going to start something else and shelve this one for a while.

Most of his books are stand alone books. He does have several series but you can pretty much pick up any and it is complete story with new characters and plot.

message 96: by Mary (new)

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) The Dead Town by Dean Koontz (Frankenstein series?

More of the same in this last book in the Frankenstein series. I think he could have done better ending it at the end of book three. At the same time I read all six books so I must have liked them. 3 stars

message 97: by Nikkiplans99 (new)

Nikkiplans99 | 68 comments Maybe we should have voted for Cuckoo Calling for next months book. :)

Kim what are you reading next? Sometimes I think I love looking for new books more then reading them. Crazy I know.

I really loved this book, the writing was fantastic, the characters of Strike and Robin were great. I thought the plot was well paced and I was surprised by the big reveal at the end.
