Where is Rickon?

Carl Harris So I just finished reading the fourth Fire and Ice book, A Feast For Crows. I found myself wondering what the hell happened to Rickon. If I remember correctly, at the end of the second book, Clash of Kings, he wonders off with Osha and then drops off the face of Westeros. Not a peep is heard about him for the next two books (I haven't read Dance of Dragons yet). I'm just curious if George R.R. Martin has forgotten about him.

Will IV Keep reading, he's still in it :)

Ken I've wondering where he went to also. Maybe he will come back in the 6th volume or if there a 7th one.

I haven't read the 5th one yet so can't say about that one.

Stacey There were a lot of characters missing from this book. If I remember correctly GRRM had to split this and Dance with Dragons up because they were originally going to be one book. I haven't read A Dance with Dragons yet and I'm sure that he's going to pop up somewhere. GRRM knows what he's doing (even though it makes absolutely no sense to the rest of us!)

glad to hear he is alive.

Rohin Dubey But that's all we hear.

Alissa Chandler I think he will age up in the 7th possibly 8th book and come back for vengeance. But for now he is safe.

Carl Harris I do remember hearing somewhere that at first there was supposed to be a five year split between book three and four. I wonder if that still might happen later in the series. I'd like to see an older Rickon and maybe an assassin Arya team up to take revenge.

Ya know I think that would be a great idea. Arya is one of my favorites so if she gets together with Rickon later that would be awesme.

Josh martin originally intended a 5 year gap in the chronology. however, in writing the characters' chapters he found it was nearly impossible to give flashback accounts of all the major characters in detail. i'd guess it also made for awkward storytelling.

changing it back to a more linear timeline required a complete re-write, ultimately producing a manuscript that was far too long for one book, giving us books 4 and 5—which themselves were again extensively edited, rewritten, and of course delayed.

i'd prefer he stays away from overcomplicating the story/timeline for the remaining books, but that's just me.

Ken I think he will pop up later as well as arya.

Apollo I hope Arya and Rickon seek revenge since I loved Lord Stark. He was a great character.

Mary Bokkon Huh. I finished Dance w Dragons not that long ago and I totally missed the bit about Rickon & Osha being on Skagos. It must be, like, a single paragraph or something because it totally blew by me. Glad to know they're okay, I'd been worried about them!

Daniel Laflin Its a series and theres going be more.. as mentioned in Crows at end it was concentrated on what was occurring in Kingslanding..

as series develops we will see Rickon, Bran, Arya, Sansa and others come back in..

Could even be that Their disappeared Uncle in nights watch returns..

We have not even reached the full Winter...

And So theres more books...

Waiting on Dance with Dragons... :) Now 9th in queue for it at library..

Becky  Apollo wrote: "I hope Arya and Rickon seek revenge..."

I love Arya, and even at the young age we last saw him,
Rickon was working up to being a little pistol. I think a team made up of Arya and Rickon and focused on revenge is just what Westeros needs.

Yannis I think Rickon will prove to be very important later on. I mean all Stark(and Snow) kids play some major part but Rickon...not yet. He just might be the prince that was promished. Although a few years gap would be needed for Rickon to act as a young lad and that would be hard to write as you already mentioned here.

Shireen islam i can barely wait fr winds of winter....!!!! grrm has left all the charaters' lives hanging at very intriguing pts... i wish he'd jst hurry up wd it..!!!

I had the exact same thought. I was even beginning to wonder if he died/killed and I missed it. Glad to hear he is still going.

Monica In A Dance with Dragons, Ghost also has a vision of Shaggydog fighting a goat with one long horn, which we would infer to be a unicorn and we learned in AFFC that unicorns live only on the isle of Skagos (along with cannibals, yikes!). My point being that there are a couple of brief (and one, albeit, obscure) references to Rickon's whereabouts in ADWD.

Kat i really think that a big story will be planned for rickon, as why was he in the story in the first place? so in my mind he is becoming the stark's saviour on that island!

Monica I like your theory, Kat.

Ken In book 5 Lord Davis is sent to get Rickon. They know he is alone with Shaggy Dog and the wildling. They know that Bran and summer with the frog kids are going north.

That might be difficult seeing as Arya's now blind.

I expect that Rickon will return and probably with Osha.

Its adorable anyone even cares what happened to Rickon...or Bran for that matter. I hope Rickon comes back later in the series. It would be cool if Martin does something interesting with his character UNLIKE the boring story of Bran the last few books.

Tom There may be one more book, if you are looking for more after that you are crazy. He will be dead. One book every 5 years ....

Tara Hall Tom wrote: "There may be one more book, if you are looking for more after that you are crazy. He will be dead. One book every 5 years ...."

Yes, I am worried about this series going the way of The Wheel of Time, myself....

Yannis Well, you didn't read right. It was either a lie or a joke. The duo from the tv show know the plot and the end and there are 2 authors that help him sometimes, I think they are James Corey (Daniel Abraham and Ty Frank). Should anything happen to GRR I guess one of them(or both) will finish it. They're good at science fiction but mediocre at fantasy though.

message 35: by So (new) - rated it 5 stars

So If Jayne Westerling is going to be in the Prolgoue of TWoW. I'm sure Rickon will pop up once he's a bit older or maybe we'll get Osha's POV.
