Hmm... at a loss at the moment for a good riddle. Back to basics:

I walk on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three legs at night. What am I?

message 54: by Katie (last edited Aug 30, 2012 09:54PM) (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) Obviously a man/woman. Well, you are a man.

I come once in a minute, twice in a moment, but never in a thousand years. What am I?

Congratulations! You have defeated the Sphinx. ;)

You are the letter M.

message 56: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) Mmmhmm. Your turn.

The person who makes it, sells it. The person who buys it never uses it and the person who uses it doesn't know they are. What is it?

message 58: by Selena (new)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) A coffin. :)

message 59: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Yep! You're up.

message 60: by Selena (new)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) So there is a portal called the "Green Glass Door" that lets some things through but not others.

For example...

Kittens can go through, but cats cannot.
Trees can go through, but not their trunks.
Sheep can go through, but lamps can't.
Glasses can go through, but contacts can't.
The green glass door can go through itself three times.

Name one thing that can and one thing that can't go through the Green Glass Door.

(When someone says something, I'll tell you all the secret to torture your friends. ;))

message 61: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Until that last line I thought the key was the letter e...

A book can go through but it's pages cannot.

message 62: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments Yellow blooms can go through twice but other flowers not at all?

message 63: by Selena (new)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) You both got it. :)

And as promised... The trick is the double letters.

I think I'll give it to Aiwealako, since Mike's given so many riddles already. ;) You're turn, Aiwealako.

message 64: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments :D thanks! I don't know a lot of riddles off the bat, but here's one that struck my fancy...

"Completely round is fairly rare.
Bright and shiny when I'm there.
When I'm not, they call me new.
But I'm old. Older than you."

message 65: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
This is a cute one.

The moon.

message 66: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments yep, you got it ;) I thought it was pertinent to current events in many ways. Your turn!

message 67: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
I never was, am always to be. No one ever saw me, nor ever will. And yet I am the confidence of all, to live and breath on this terrestrial ball. What am I?

message 68: by Selena (new)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) Air? :| That's a toughie.

message 69: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments hope, or the future?

message 70: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Aiwealako wrote: "hope, or the future?"

I bet it's the future. That's good thinking, Aiwealako!

message 71: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
The future it is. "Tomorrow" would have also worked. Nicely done Aiwealako! Your turn.

message 72: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments It roars like thunder,
And rises higher,
While breathing fire,
This wingless wonder.

If it leaves its cave,
Drags us in its tail,
Over hill and dale,
Then you must be brave.

Early morning flight,
Silently it flies,
Slowly in the skies.
Hides before the night.

message 73: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) The sun?

Now that is a great riddle, nice poem!

Katie wrote: "The sun?"

Seems right. If not my next guess is hot air balloon.

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments Mike wrote: "Katie wrote: "The sun?"

Mike got it with the hot air balloon, though when I first heard this one I had guessed the sun as well :)

message 77: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
:) Sun was my first guess too. It was the "drags us" that made me think of the balloon as an alternative. Great riddle.

If you break me
I do not stop working.
If you touch me
I may be snared.
If you lose me
Nothing will matter.

Is it time to add a hint?

message 79: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) I have an idea based on the first couplet but it doesn't fit as well for the rest of it. I was waiting to see if anyon eelse would guess.

message 80: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Sure. No one's made any guesses yet.

message 81: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Everyone has one.

message 82: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) Okay, then I'll take a stab at it, pun intended: a heart?

message 83: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
You have slain Lord Dracula. Er, I mean, correct! Your turn.

message 84: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) I travel around the world but never leave the corner. What am I?

message 85: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
I feel like I'm going to have an "of course!" moment when I figure this out or hear the answer.

I'm stuck thinking about the equator or aomething to do with the date/time line, but I'm likely overthinking and the corner thing doesn't make sense with either...

My mind is stuck on a single answer, too. I keep thinking it a thumbtack or something, but I don't think that's right.

message 87: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
... I knew I was going to smack my forehead when I figured this out.

You're a yo-yo.

message 88: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments It was that or a globe...

message 89: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments It's the "corner" thing that is really throwing me off. I don't get it!

message 90: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
I was assuming "leave the corner" was a play on being confined by the string, and was quite certain of yo-yo, so I looked it up.

I'm wrong, the answer makes perfect sense and this is one extremely clever riddle. Very nice Katie...

message 91: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (otterscotch) | 11 comments darnit, I had just looked it up and read the riddle out loud as I was doing so, and my roommate just answered it off-hand... hahah. it really does make sense, now.

message 92: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) :-D At first I thought it was easy because I remembered this riddle from childhood. Then I realized that most people don't use this anymore so it might be a hard one.

Will this one get answered or should I pick a new riddle?

message 93: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments I thought I had it, so I looked it up to check. I was wrong :( Hopefully someone will be able to get the answer without looking it up. If no one gets it soon, I'd say you should post another riddle.

message 94: by Selena (new)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) Telephone? :| I have no idea.

message 95: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) Katie wrote: "I travel around the world but never leave the corner. What am I?"

All right, I'll spill. It's a postage stamp - it stays on the corner of the envelope but is sent all over the world.

Let's hope this one is easier:

In the beginning
I seem mysterious,
But in the end
I am nothing serious.

message 96: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
My first thought is "riddle," and it amuses me so I'm posting it as an answer.

message 97: by Laura (new)

Laura Morrigan (lauramorrigan) | 55 comments That was in Into The Woods. Great musical!

message 98: by Laura (new)

Laura Morrigan (lauramorrigan) | 55 comments But I don't know the answer :P

message 99: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) Mike, you are correct! I liked it too, it's silly.

Awesome!

My life can be measured in hours,
I serve by being devoured.
Thin, I am quick
Fat, I am slow
Wind is my foe.
What am I?
