*whew* Now I'm done buying and can start reading and rejoining the challenge. (Go on, peek at the latest buying spree list on my personal thread. hehe I got 216 books for $8.52, which worked out to 4 cents a book.)
Challenge "Quickie", # of pages 1,000, reward 1 new 1 used book, to be read by July 15th 2009.Previous Count: 326 pp

Challenge "Quickie", # of pages 1,000, reward 1 new 1 used book, to be read by July 15th 2009.Previous Count: 870 pp
139 pp of [Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:] by J.K. Rowling
New Count: 1009 pp.
I don't usually use part of a book, but it is allowed, right?! I just discovered that some of the books on my wishlist have just been reduced in price, and that's usually only good for the day, so I either had to disqualify myself or go for the win.
Another question for Kenjii: is the theme name of the challenge just to name the challenge so we know which one we're working on, or should the book choices follow the theme? Guess I should have asked earlier!!
If I did everything legal and am the winner, I'll post the next challenge.
I do believe you've won BJ. Congrats. I think she names them so we can keep track of which challenge. Go ahead and buy anything you want. And yes, partial reads count... for example... you are 139pgs into Harry Potter. The first 139 pages won't count now towards the next challenge, but the rest of the book will.
Briansgirl wrote: "I do believe you've won BJ. Congrats. I think she names them so we can keep track of which challenge. Go ahead and buy anything you want. New challenge will follow soon
WTG BJ Rose. U did it! I just remind participants that u can use NEW books (like unread) as partial counts in new challenges, but any UNFINISHED books must be read to the end to be counted. Why? If I OK'ed any books all the time then we could count all partial counts from 5 books and win the smaller challenges. U did right. Ur right on track. One time I slipped up and counted a whole book when I had already counted partial pages. Then I saw it and simply minus the pages. It is easy enough to track if you have a Page Tracker on your reading List. I have to have something =D.
Naming the challenges don't have anything to do with the theme of the challenge. That'd get way to cumbersome. I name them only to remind everyone which challenge we are on and which ones you have won (for extra rewards). Also I do things like mini-challenges and bonuses. Anytime you are ready please post the next challenge =D.
New Challenge - 'In the Heat of the Night' 1750 pages, reward 1 new & 2 used books OR 4 used books, to be read by July 28th 2009.Happy Reading!!
Ordered my new books - I still had 'credit' for one new book & 2 used ones from the challenge I won at the end of June, and now the 1 new & 1 used, so I'm working on 2 new & 3 used - all right!! And I got my new ones for used-book prices. And if I can find my books-to-buy list, I'm going to my UBS today. The Runaway McBride & The Scot and I - both by Elizabeth Thornton
BJ Rose:I checked out your books. When do you think you'll get o read them? Have you read any of the books you've gotten as a reward from this challenge?
Kenjii wrote: "BJ Rose:I checked out your books. When do you think you'll get to read them? Have you read any of the books you've gotten as a reward from this challenge?"Question #1: Unless I can work them into this month's challenges, I'll probably hold off on the new ones until August (hmm - The Scot & I would work for next month's Read-the-Month Challenge). Not everyone likes Elizabeth Thornton's books - she mainly writes romantic suspense.
Question #2: My earlier rewards are all in July challenges of one sort or another. I just started Branded by Fire, which was one of them.
I may be out of this challenge already. I'm sort of buying a book. That is to say, I'm having one printed from uploaded files from my pc at lulu.com and having a book printed from them. Does that count as buying a book to bust me from the challenge?
If it is not an actual transaction then it should not count against the challenge. Some "OK" examples:
-receiving a book via Wishlist request. Since most are set up to come in an unknown order/time.
-buying a book for kids or friends etc.
-**new** buying an e-reader, since they sometimes go on special sales, if they come with free books that is OK.
Always keep in mind you are apart of this challenge to keep your book "buying" to a min. Finding free or special deals aren't always a no-no. It's when you are spending money and have 100's already on reserve.

so... you'll beat me. lolI Just can't decide what to read lately. I'm starting a YA book right now just to fill a challenge category but I'm not sure I really feel like reading it.
I am doing the opposite these days, BG. If I happen to read something that falls in the challenge category then I will fill it in. I mean I read the categories and think hmmm that might work. But really. I try and work a min. of 3 books IF I do the challenge these days. I like working to finish the "other" challenges b/c I have more time and more of a chance of completing the whole thing.
I read a book to fill a challenge tonight and wish I hadn't. It was absolutely awful. Count Off Challenge - Starting 7/12/09

I'm trying to find out what the secret reward is, but Briansgirl is eager to win this one and so far has read 3x as many pages as I. But my morning chores are done, and it's too hot to do any more work outside, so guess I'll have to get back to reading
