I did - i've been curiosu to see how she handled wraith from the beginning because he was such a tortured soul...and i liked his heroine...not saying i didn't like the other two, because i really liked E's as well, but something about his just made me emphthize with her...i have the 4th one on the pile to read for a challenge next month and the 5th one on pre-orderChristine wrote: "Did you like Passion Unleashed, Dee?"

I'm reset to zero. I purchased two books used online today. Blood Lite (Anthology of humorous horror stories) for 19 cents and Mean Streets (Anthology of four stories of paranormal P.I.s) for 62 cents, plus shipping. Mean Streets includes a Jim Butcher story from The Dresden Files. Blood Lite includes another Dresden File story as well as one from Charlaine Harris. The anthology is described as... "So let the blood flow and laughter reign -- because when it comes to facing our deepest, darkest fears, a little humor goes a long way!" I love these paranormal anthologies. Quick short stories where I am getting introduced to new authors and finding new favorites.

Jane, you've been a gardening whiz!I have four books in progress, I just came in from preparing a garden bed for sowing seeds tomorrow, and this afternoon I'm heading for the library to pick up 3 books and donate a bagful - and maybe they'll have some interesting books in their sale room so I can use some of my reward from last challenge. But no points to post yet!
My dad gave me 3 more harlequins today. So he's recycling. :) I started the first book in The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, Storm Front. Think film noir. Harry Dresden is a wizard. Only one in the phone book. He's a private investigator. He does consulting with the Chicago police involving unusual crimes. By the end of the first book he gets killed, and becomes a vampire. (The library has the first 10 books of the 12 book series. They ordered (rush) the 11th book in the series. Book 12 isn't out yet.)
I see a lot of my GR romance friends reading the Dresden files and found it strange. But I guess the UF twist to explain it. I never stopped to check out what its about, so thanks Kate =D I read a ss in the 'Thriller' antho. Which I believe had the Dresden character in it.
So far Kenjii, it's like reading a b&w film noir movie. He's a private investigator that's a wizard. Later he'll be killed and turned into a vampire, but still does his day job. Havn't gotten to that part yet. Definetly UF. Not a drop of romance as his upcoming date is just a beautiful reporter trying to get information out of him. Definetly mystery as he's got to solve the crime to find out who-done-it although in this first book, the wizarding council thinks he did it, so he's got a vested interest in finding the real killer (who killed using magic). Supernatural elements, sure, but far and above anything else it's a mystery. This is definetly the right series for me since I'm new to paranormal books but love mysteries. Just glad the library has them. (I've got the first 6 out from the library now, and they're holding the next 5 for me and put the latest one on rush order with a reservation on it for me.)

I don't know where I got the idea that Harry Dresdan became undead at some point. He's a wizard P.I., which he does very well. The pages were blurry, lol, but I finished the first book just after 2am. Had to know how it ended. Will have to reread the final chapter with a clear head tomorrow and will then post the pages. (I started at 3pm and finished at 2am... and it's around 320 pages or so.)

So I reduced my books by donating 18 to the library, but I checked out 4 (at least these are just temporary!) & bought 2 from their bookstore for 25 cents each:
. And from Amazon Marketplace sellers, I bought 4 used books, all by Karen Hawkins:
So that's 6 used books purchased from my 12 earned. Need to think a little about the rest.

Sorry if this has been explained already but how do you count pages for an ebook that doesn't have a paperback release? Like it only exists in ebook form?Trying to figure this out for reading The Darkest Fire, the prequel to the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter.
Ashley in a case like that I do a guesstimate...I take a book I have with a known page count and do some simple math...i.e.
x/locations of ebook = xx pages (known number)/yy locations (if that makes sense) and then soem cross-multiplication...
I heard somewhere that darkest fire was about 50 pages (not sure how true that is) - I skipped it in the anthology that I had but I think i'm going to go back and read it now

Thanks Dee. I did some digging and found out that it's going to be released in paperback form with some other stories soon, so I wandered over to Amazon and previewed the table of contents: Darkest Fire goes from 9-92 so it's about 83 pages. Thanks for the formula, that will help in the future regardless! :)

no problem - glad I was of some help...I do need to go back and read it sometime...I read the first few locations and got distracted so actually moved onto Darkest Night (which is really good, if you haven't read it yet)...for general reference, i've figured that about 7200 locations is approximately a 400 page book (or in that general vicinity) - looking at the 3 i'm in the middle of reading and the various locations for each compared to page numbers

Your welcome Debbie. I have this thread set to follow the discussion so I get emails everytime someone posts. I don't turn in for the night until my fiance calls on his way home from work. It's just after midnight and he should call anytime now. I'm reading while I wait. I'm 200 pages into Fool Moon (Dresden Files #2). I'll put the page count up for it once I finish it tomorrow.

Happy reading everyone! :)
