Congrats Ann. Now that I'm done buying, (Still need to update goodreads on the ones I'm keeping. The ones I put on PBS I've already had a request for.) But... now back to reading... so anxiously awaiting the next challenge.

Hum, ok, after long hard thought I've decided to call this challenge

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Explaination for this one--my Mother-in-law's birthday would have been the 13th. She would have been 83. But she died from complications of breast cancer (she had a heart attack that was induced by the stress of the chemo) so this is dedicated to her.

Read 2005pp (short challenge) I arrived at this number because its the year she was born (1927) plus her age at the time she died (61) plus 4 for April and 13 for the date.

Double your points if your title/author has: Betty (her name), the name of a flower in any form, Home, Teacher or Education (she was a home ec teacher) and of course Chocolate (which she loved.)

Rewards: well, since Betty also loved to read, I'm going with 4 new books OR 12 used books to the winner

Thanks Sara. I thought I did pretty good. Especially with the audiobooks being $1.28 each and I can get 2 book credits for each off PBS. I have Chocolat to read as well at some point.

Okay, this was just wierd for me to read. I finished Windows on His World by Dora Hagge today. This book was written by my mother, and self-published through Tate Publishing. It's a religious book that includes her original watercolor paintings. I'm no where near as religious as my mother, so did not enjoy reading all those parts. The family stories, most I'd heard many times before (including ones involving me or my sons). Was really wierd reading about my grandmother's death again. I hadn't heard the story of my father walking down the street more quickly than usual while on a business trip and then a block behind them (where they'd have been if they hadn't walked quickly) a car blew up. This was just wierd. It occurred to me that my mother was born in Iowa, so this book fit the Geography: Iowa category for the monthly challenge. It was really strange being reminded that many years ago my toddler son climbed up to the window, pushed out the screen, dropped his favorite toy out the window (first floor), then feel asleep slumped over the window, thankfully not falling out and wandering into the parking lot of the apartment complex. Now I'm depressed. Between all the preaching (she gives instructions for you to receive your own prayer language to pray in tongues), the stuff I just can't believe (oh look, I photographed a real angel!), reliving my grandmother's death (I was with her to the very end, once was enough), reading about my father nearly getting blown up, being reminded that my son when he was toddler nearly fell out a window - I WILL NEVER READ THIS BOOK AGAIN FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE! :( Sorry, now I'm crying. Mom put the night grandma died (12 1/2 years ago) in the book as well as putting in stuff that was read aloud during her funeral. It's like having to relive it all over again.

This sounds like something I'd put safely in a box labelled "for my children when they're my age" or something like that. Just the fact that their grandmother wrote the book makes it great family history for them, and they won't have the remembrances of actually experiencing any of it. I have an audiotape of my mother singing songs with my youngest daughter - altho mom's been gone for almost 10 years, it's still bittersweet to listen to it, and it will go to my daughter as part of her shared history.

I actually have four copies of this book, each came in a clear plastic box. She signed the front page for each of my boys and one for me. I'll keep it as mom wrote it, but I won't read it again. She finished the book several years ago. Took me til now to read it.
