Ooops!"lol, I completely understand. I ended up mixing my reward up a bit as I ordered a new book to get the next Sookie new release and then used books to complete the rest of my Sookie collection, quite a bit through PBS (paperbackswap). Not sure where I am now, but I havn't been reading lately as I've been crocheting. I may have gone over too so will reset. (I was only on 66 pages anyway. lol)

Ok, is anyone else having problems with GR the last couple of days? I get on it, it moves at the speed of an ill snail. When it allows me to actually get INTO a group, it will do wiggy things (going back to a page I'd already finished with, dropping out altogether, NOT loading pages . . . .) Anyway, I haven't been able to log in til now, so I had 3 books to put in. :o)

Hey everyone,I need some off-topic advice, if that's ok?....you know I mentioned my boyfriend just lost a friend to suicide? Well, it's been difficult for him, obviously, he originally said he needed me to attend the funeral with him, even though I didn't know his friend. Today he said he doesn't want me to go. It really hurt my feelings. Should I be taking this personally? We've been together for two years. Sorry to post here, but I'm just not sure what I should be feeling...especially because this friend is female, and he told me awhile ago they never dated, but I'm starting to think he must have really liked her at some point. You know "LIKE" liked her. So anyway...sorry again. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it.
It could be as simple as wanting to keep you separate - he can go to the funeral and be sad and say goodbye, but come back to you for his happiness. I wouldn't be offended (or at least I'd try not to be, it's different when it's your feelings involved). I know a couple of people who've had suicide touch their lives like that, and all of them have had some pretty unique takes on coping. After all, they're dealing with someone who has chosen to leave and that's always going to cause mixed feelings.
My first thought as his not wanting you there may be with him being emotional at the funeral and him not wanting you to see that. As far as your support to him, I suggest you support him when he lets you and try not to be offended otherwise. Show your support before he goes to the funeral and when he gets back. Hang in there!!
I really wanted to get into this challenge again, but soccer has hit full swing again. I'm staying in tune with the challenge and hope to get in on the next one. Also my other problem was counting the pages on my Kindle. Any suggestions on how to figure this?
Have you tried looking up the print version of the book on goodreads? I think they show a page count so I'd just use that.
I do as Nairabell does and use the page count, however, if its a book that is only available in kindle format, I look at the locations and then use a book with a known page count that I also have in kindle and do some quick math and it gets me in the general vicinityDalene wrote: "I really wanted to get into this challenge again, but soccer has hit full swing again. Nairabell wrote: "Have you tried looking up the print version of the book on goodreads? I think they show a page count so I'd just use that."That's generally what we suggest.
Dalene wrote: "My first thought as his not wanting you there may be with him being emotional at the funeral and him not wanting you to see that. Since this was a suicide, that may make the funeral harder for those that attend. Just be supportive and do what you can. He might change his mind. I know it isn't comfortable knowing he might have "liked" her, but try not to dwell on it. Even if he did, it's in the past. Maybe he has regrets that he never asked her out. Only he knows and it's too painful for him to talk about right now. Just be there and if he's ready, he'll talk about it. But some men don't discuss stuff like that, so be prepared for that too. Good luck with everything.
Having dealt with a few suicides of people that I know in the past, I'll weigh in here with another suggestion. Maybe HE didn't "like" like her--but she did HIM--and he's now feeling guilty that he couldn't return her feelings. Actually, he's probably feeling guilty anyway (well, no probably about that, he IS) and his moods are also swinging wildly. All you can do is stand by him and give him what support he will let you. Make sure that he has something clean and pressed to wear, that he's got some hankies (or tissues) in his pocket--if he protests, tell him that you know that there will be people there who will be crying and he needs to be prepared to help them out. That way he can have the tissues and NOT "look weak/emotional" to you.
Ok, I'm presently reading Rosemary and Rue, when I finish this book, does the Rosemary count double as a flower--or are you being strict and counting it only as an herb? (It really does smell very nice, btw.)
Thank you all for such wonderful responses. I feel much better about the situation. It's definitely a rough situation and I know that the most important thing is that I'm there for him, Thanks everyone.
Ann aka Iftcan wrote: "Ok, I'm presently reading Rosemary and Rue, when I finish this book, does the Rosemary count double as a flower--or are you being strict and counting it only as an herb? (It really ..."It's a flowering herb, and Rose is part of Rosemary which is definetly a flower, so I don't have a problem with you taking double credit, but Nairabell set up this challenge so I'll leave that up to her or Kenjii.
I would say the "rose" in rosemary is OK to count as a flower. Plus the fact its a flowering plant/herb. I mean not only are we reading, restricting our book buying, but really putting thought into our reading as well. Good job!
