BJ Rose: How did you like the Scot and I? I am reading To Tame a Highlander and I like the underlying Scottish theme.
I liked it. There's definitely a Scottish setting in The Scot and I - it begins with a shooting in Balmoral Castle, but it's the Prophecy of the Grampian Witch that sets the tone - the hero is one of the grandsons of the Witch and has to decide whether or not he believes any of the Prophecy (foolish man - in books the prophecies always come true!)The book I just finished - Runaway McBride - is the 2nd in this series, and I actually liked this one more, but the first is fun. They take place in late Victorian times. I'm hoping there's a 3rd one for Gavin.
I loved Moning's Highlander series - they actually get better after the one you're reading now.
Finished The Deen Family Cookbook tonight (Paula Deen). I flipped through the whole thing but only read about half of the recipes so I'm not going to list the pages towards my page count even though I finished the book. (I skipped over the recipes I know my family wouldn't eat.)
If read historical romance I find that there has to be something magical happening to keep me interested. Even though in the Highlander series is not magically overt, lol. I did like reading a paranormal romance set in Victorian England as well. Those times [customs:] are so proper and different. Just a change from the attitude of today. I will look for more Highlander/Scottish themed romances now =D

Kenjii could you please post the new challenge. I haven't got any imaginative ideas but I'm sure you will have. I guess new page counts start from here ?!

Congratulations, Jane!!
Thanks guys ! I am feeling a little better but I spend most of the day in bed sleeping and reading. Antibiotics make me very sleepy and they are pretty strong. I sure hope none of you get this swine flu it's really not nice ! !
Gave up on the book I was reading. The autographed book I found for 50 cents at a thrift shop - America on Six Rubles a Day. It's not that he isn't funny but after 41 pages (out of 124).. I got really tired of his jokes. He'd put one-liner jokes in every paragraph, and sometimes more than one. Too many jokes, not enough substance. It just became too much. Oh well.
Sorry you didn't like the book Kate ! Fortunately we don't come across books like that too often. I'm finally up out of bed ! Gosh this thing really takes it out of you.

Definetly not tossing an autographed book away. Might be worth something to someone. But it was just too much to keep reading.Glad you're feeling better Jane.

Thanks BG! SS I missed that post Jane. I don't know WHY Goodreads sometimes does not send me the emails from threads I am "following". I completely missed your request to start a new challenge Jane. I'll check more closely next time =D.

Glad to hear you're back to good (or at least working) health!
Hey BG your a great challenge host. Maybe you can be my co-lead when I drop the ball, ahem, as in when GR doesn't deliver messages letting me know when its time to start new challenges, lol. Also keeping up with page counts is a neat idea =D.
I would love to help Kenjii. As a stay-at-home mom... I've got the time. heheOn another note, I'm finally reading something that's fiction. It's a story about 9/11. It's 34 pages long and and I'm only on page 18, as I can only read a few pages of it at a time. Otherwise, I'm reading cookbooks.

Thanks for offering to help BG =D. I don't work as you know and so I have time to check up on the messages as well. I do have moderate health issues that sometimes keep me away from the computer for a few days at a time.
I am SO glad to hear that you are getting back into fiction reading. Thanks for sharing and posting your pages!
I've mostly been reading cookbooks lately, which isn't a bad thing. But it took me 2 days, a little here or there to finally get through the 34 page novella about a woman (writer) whose husband goes missing during 9/11 attacks. You'll have to keep the lists of whose won towards whatever secret prize you've got. :) But I can help with running totals or a new challenge if you're not around.

Ok as I have won the last three challenges, I am going to back off for a while now and let others have a chance. Although in reality as I am back to work tomorrow my reading time is going to diminish anyway ! !I was fortunate in having been ill for almost three weeks, that I was able to read almost endlessly.
I am however feeling a little burnt out now hehe ! !
I'll let you know what I decide to do with my rewards
Pure Reading Challenge = 4 used books +
Getting ready for fall challenge = 2 new or 4 used books +
World Trade Centre Memorial Challenge = 1 new or 2 used books.
I am going to go for used books as it's a good way to take advantage of being able to buy lots of books at once to replenish my reading shelves .
Oops forgot to say thanks to Kate for creating a thought provoking challenge and of course to Kenjii who got the whole thing started in the first place.

Congrads Jane! It is great to be able to get so much reading done though. Let us know if you want to post a challenge, or want us to do it, thanks! Page count zero!

As I won the last three challenges, I'm going to sit this one out.
Glad you are reading a little now.
Thanks Jane. I'm trying to find my way back. I've read alot of non-fiction but even then, I've been reading a bit here or there in different books, rarely finishing any particular book. Can't count pages that way. lol

I got a big chuckle out of the way you worded this - only a true reader could say that!
Thanks BJ Rose ! Yes my husband said the same thing !I would have been very unhappy if I hadn't been able to occupy myself reading.
