The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
question
Movie First...Then read the Book

Most of us prefer to read a book and THEN see the movie, right? Well, what about books that we've read AFTER seeing the movie? Reasons being: Getting stuck with nothing else to see...Watching the movie and not realizing it's based on a book until you see the closing credits...Little time for reading certain items, so you just went to the movie instead...???
I'll start:1) 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly'. It's a true story of one man's medical battle. I saw the movie and while watching the credits, realized it was based on a book.
2) 'The Bielski Partisans'. Another true account of WWII about people hiding in the Naliboki Forest in Poland, surviving the war.
Okay so....anyone else have movies that have prompted them to read the book?

Same thing with me, I saw the movie a few years back and didn't realize it was a book. I read the book soon afterwards.
I think this book might be an exception; it is definitely better to see the movie first. I did and I do not regret it. It gave me a clear visualisation of his hospital and medical condition, while the book is focused more on his internal thoughts and emotions.
I totally agree. I think the film enhanced the book experience. I am so glad I saw the film before reading the book.
OK. Here's another one for you. Angel Heart and Fallen Angel. I saw Angel Heart and wanted to read the book because the film left me with nagging questions. Took me forever to find a copy of the book. Wow. I loved the book. Very Raymond Chandler-ish. There were some big differences between the film and the book but I loved them both.
I also saw Shopgirl as a film before reading the book. Personally, I liked the film better than the book.
