Megan L Harnett With Good Behavior by Jennifer Lane

Read: 9/21/12
Review: 4 Stars

This book was good. It had a lot of action in it but it was depressing at times. It was about two people who fall in love but they were both sent to prison by the same person. They get out of jail and are on parole and trying not to get caught up in family drama(which happens to be the mafia). It is a good read.

Items:
People: Frank Sinatra - "..busy navigating the damn ship, not babysitting Frank Sinatra over here!..."
Famous Landmark: Sears Tower - "old post office building and the Sears Tower and the Spire.."
Things: Blood - "Caring for others was in her blood, as natural to her as breathing."
Color: Red - "..at his chest as his red face screwed up in pain.."

Now to pick a book for this week!

Megan L Harnett Ok for this week's book I am picking

The Hawk (Highland Guard, #2) by Monica McCarty

If you click on the book and get a bigger image of the cover you can see a ship in the background and a piece of shoreline.

Alyssa (lyssad87) So, Megan L, you're claiming the celebrity item by using Frank Sinatra, right? Could you add that into your post for me, please? Thanks!

Ana finished famous landmark item 22.09
Amy's Honeymoon. Julia Llewellyn by Julia Llewellyn - 2 stars
review: i don't know if it's me but chick lit, my favourite genre a while ago doesn't entertain me anymore: i found the book boring and so cliche a couple breaking a day before the wedding, the girl can't get a refund for her honeymoon in rome so she is going alone and after a few days crying she falls in love...
Items:
People: celebrity - Stendhal, Goethe chapter 21
Places:
famous landmark - Rome: Colloseum, Forum chapter 4
Things: glitter chapter 5, 8, 20
Colours: orange chapter 3 i think

Alyssa (lyssad87) *swearing under her breath* Darn goodreads isn't sending me e-mail updates when some posts in here. Hopefully I don't miss anything.

I'm still picking a book for shoreline, but I think I've almost made a decision.

I'm tired now, but I'll do some updating tomorrow.

(Oh FYI, I just finished River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs . Which, curse my timing, mentions shorelines a few times. So, if you're up to that book in the series, it was awesome!)

Alyssa (lyssad87) We're updated.

Great job, everyone! We're earned our second item, green.

We just need Zina to find a celebrity somewhere, then we'll earn that item.

And, these next items have been found by 4 out of 6 of us: couple, road, glitter, and purple. There's also a few with 3 out of 6 of us having found them.

Yay! Happy reading!

With Every Letter (Wings of the Nightingale, #1) by Sarah Sundin
Read:
With Every Letter by Sarah Sundin
Finished it on: September 23, 2012
Rating:descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription description

Review:
With Every Letter is an amazing novel! It’s rich in detail about WWII, but doesn’t overwhelm you in it.

Mellie Blake is a woman who is shy, scared of putting herself at risk and so is very lonely. She has a hard time making friends, mostly because of her preconceived ideas of how people see her – which were ingrained in her from her childhood, when children would make fun of her.

Lt. Newman, Mellie’s chief nurse, loves the movie Shop Around the Corner and gets an idea of how to do something like it in real life. With the help of her husband, Capt. Newman of the 908th, she has all the nurses in her charge write letters to all the men in her husband’s platoon…anonymously!

Mellie at first didn’t want to participate in it, but she was ordered to do so. Her letter finds its way to Tom MacGilliver, a man who has been teased mercilessly since childhood because of what his father did. Tom has never had any real friends because of it, and sees this anonymous letter writing as a Godsend. He can confide in someone and not have to worry that he will be rejected because of his name – which is one of his deepest concerns.

Unbeknownst to one of them, they meet in real life, but will they connect as much as they do in their letters? Or, will fear of rejection keep them apart?

The ending was SO funny and romantic! I have read all of Sundin’s books and she has a way of capturing my interest from page one. I get lost in her books and hate it when I reach the last page – I am greatly looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical fiction.

“Available September 2012 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.”

***I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.***

Items Collected
Person (Healer): The door to the ward opened, and Lieutenant Newman, the chief nurse, leaned in. (page 8)
Place (Shoreline): He dropped into the ocean, up to his waist, and sucked in a breath. "Come on in. The water's fine." He sloshed to shore. (page 52) or Tom gazed down the shore, as if he could see down the hundreds of miles of coastline. (page 261)
Thing (Stairs): Three men in leather flight jackets and pilot's "crush" caps trotted down the stairs toward them. (page 100)
Color (Orange): Bright orange flashes onshore, crackling gunfire, and booming mortars confirmed it. (page 49)

message 168: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) Awesome choice, Ana. I love Percy! I can't wait to hear what you think of the book. I'm jealous. You have soo many more to go to catch up too. (They're making Book 2, The Sea of Monsters into a movie now.)

There's a fairly good chance you could find a shoreline in Titan's Curse (maybe even all the books). Percy is always traveling all over the place in those books.

Alyssa (lyssad87) I finished Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout on 9/25/12 for the Shoreline item.

Read: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: I loved it! I'm kicking myself right now, cuz I don't have
Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout to read right next.

Speaking of kicking myself.... I wish I could kick Daemon around a little bit. I like all the fiery exchanges that him and Katy have, but she really just needs to smack him one of these times. *sighs*

Anyways... I thought the whole thing was fun and interesting. Definitely something different from what I normally read. (I read I Am Number Four and really liked it, but that's it for my alien experiences.) I can't wait to read Onyx. I'd say it might be a little while, but I'm sure I'll buy it next week after I get paid. So, if it fits for an item that's called soon, get your earplugs ready. I bet there will be some high-pitched shrieking going on. :-)

Items Collected
Place - Shoreline: It's in the background on the cover. Just look over Daemon's shoulder. (I know... It's hard to not keep staring at him. Haha.)
Person - Warrior: Daemon - He ends up fighting his enemies a few times in the book. For example, pg258.
Thing - Bag: "Back home, we each grabbed a side of a bag and hauled it out of my trunk." (pg 21)
Color - Yellow: "There was a flash of intense red-yellow light." (pg90)

Megan L Harnett The Hawk (Highland Guard, #2) by Monica McCarty
Finished: 9/28/12
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review:
This book is about Highlander's in the middle of the war for Scotland. Hawk is a Highlander warrior who is a captain of a ship and very carefree, full of life and seems to never take anything interesting. Ellie is the love interest who is a straight and narrow follow the rules type of person. When these two opposites meet it seems that they might have more in common then they think.

I like this book. I liked the love story except I hate it when the characters are too stubborn to realize they are in love! Overall good story though.

They found a blood clot in her brain and we are aggressively trying to deal with it so she is pretty out of it. Ana, it doesn't have to be the specific word "shoreline" it just has to connect the water to the land. So beach, coast, tideline anything like that would work.

message 183: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok Team 1 since Shelly is unable to complete the challenge right now, you have two options.

1. I can find a replacement player to jump in and fill in the items Shelly hadn't claimed yet.

2. Since you are the only team with 6 players, I can just remove Shelly's items and count your score like the rest of the teams that only have 5 players.

Everyone please vote and let me know what you would like to do as a team.

I read this book because it was recommended to read if u liked 50 shades. This book was better. The writing was really good. Story is about a woman who is a dom amd then meets another male dom who questions if she really is a dom. Is that how she reallly feels?
I enjoyed the romance but was very explicit sex.

Then, there's a few where only two of us need to find the item.

Plus, we have some that we haven't even started working on yet. Those will be the easiest for us to find, I think.

Finished; 01/Oct/12
Rating: ★★★★1/2

REVIEW:After reading so much positive reviews about the writing of Lisa Kleypas I finally decided to just jump in. I am so glad that I did. I havent read a historical romance in the past 30 years. This book was awesome!!! The writing was flawless. It was like I was right there in the mid 1840's. Her attention to detail was spot on.
My favorite part of the story was where the 4 girls were playing Rounders in their undergarments and Simon and Westcliff happened upon them. Loved it. I am hooked and will continue with the series and look forward to adding Lisa Kleypas to my favorite author list.

The Bride Wore Blue A Novel (The Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek #3) by Mona Hodgson
Read:
The Bride Wore Blue: A Novel by Mona Hodgson
Finished it on: October 1, 2012
Rating:descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription 1/2

Review:
4.5 Stars

The Bride Wore Blue is another enjoyable installment to The Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek series, and my favorite of the series to date. I hope to read Twice a Bride, the fourth book in this series, very soon.

Vivian may be the baby of the family, but after making a grievous mistake the previous year, she has done a lot of growing up. I thought she was such a believable character, and I felt an immediate connection with her.

Shortly after Vivian arrives in Cripple Creek she begins to look for employment. However the town has recently suffered a fire and most of the local businesses have just rebuilt, so there are very few jobs available. She is told about a job as a hostess and thinks that is something she could do...that is until she learns it is in one of the sporting houses. However, when she loses one job, has to leave another and can't find work anywhere no matter how hard she tries, she decides to see what would be involved in that hostess job. When she is told that she wouldn't have to work upstairs, she decides to take it - thinking that it isn't that big of a deal to work there after what she did last year. Knowing that her family would never understand or condone her decision, she keeps her place of employment a secret from them...even going to great lengths to deceive one of her sisters when she comes across her on her way to her job.

The Bride Wore Blue is a wonderful story. I think this book could be read be itself and you wouldn't feel that you are missing out on anything. However, just know that if you did read this one first, and then decided to read the other two, that you would know a lot of the key details of those books and that may take away a little of your enjoyment of them. I would recommend this book and this series to fans of historical fiction.
