Alyssa (lyssad87) Yep, that's what I figured too, Zina.

Have fun choosing books, everyone. I'll be back after work to see what the item is. :-)

message 57: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1 comments I am waiting for the SOS bingo shelf to be called before I start reading. That shelf gets called tomorrow late afternoon my time. Should be the last week for that challenge and hopefully I can find a bed in the book I chose for that shelf...

message 58: by Megan L (new)

Megan L Harnett Ok so I am going to kick this thing off! My pick for this week is:

In Bed With A Highlander by Maya Banks

If I find any other items while reading I will let you know!

message 59: by Ana (new)

Ana haven't decided my book yet. anyway i'll take a few with me and i'll choose one

message 60: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) The Other Side is the book I am going to read. I am new to this so is this ok since bed isn't in the title?

message 61: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1 comments Shelly wrote: "The Other Side is the book I am going to read. I am new to this so is this ok since bed isn't in the title?"

Yes as long as Bed is in the story somewhere or a picture of a bed is on the cover..

message 62: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) great! I will sstick with this book then. Thanks

message 63: by Ana (new)

Ana i have decided on To Kill a Mockingbird

message 64: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) For items like couple and metropolitan area does it have to have the word or will the fact that my book takes place in New York city be ok?

message 65: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Shelly wrote: "For items like couple and metropolitan area does it have to have the word or will the fact that my book takes place in New York city be ok?"

Yes, you can use New York as a metropolitain area. And couple doesn't have to use the word couple, something like a romance where you "know" they are a couple at the end of the book will work. or it could be the mention of a couple of friends.

message 66: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) I'm kind of like Zina. I'm thinking about waiting to pick a book until the final Bingo shelf is called. But, I did end up starting a book this afternoon that had a bed on like the first page. So, I could end up using that. *shrugs* I don't know. No need to rush yet.

message 67: by Ana (new)

Ana i am leaving now see you on wendsay:)

message 68: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) Ok, so being forced out of the house due to Isaac and my kids being with my parents I had tons of free time yesterday so I finished my book. I gave The Other Side 4 stars. This is an anthology with 5 ghost/paranormal stories. The first was part of the In Death series by JD Robb. I enjoyed this story, but it didn't really feel true to the characters for me. The second story by Mary Blayney was a "Freaky Friday" type of story where an Earl and his wife switch bodies and try to live in each others' lives. I enjoyed this for the first half, then it got old. The third story by Patricia Gaffney was of a victoriian lady who hires a "ghost hunter" to scare off potental house buyers so she could save her house. This was a wonderful story and very well written. The fourth story by Ruth Ryan Langan was my favorite in the book. A couple is killed when the brakes on their car are sabotoged and they stay behind to attempt to make things right for their children. And the final story by Mary Kay McComas was my least favorite. It was almost painful to read and I didn't care at all about any of the characters I just wanted the story to end. Depsite the final story, the first 4 were so good I would reccomend this book.

Alyssa (lyssad87) Thanks, Dawn.

Yes, everyone if you would just throw all the stuff we need to count your items (star rating, date, review, link to book, and the items you're claiming) into just one post, that would be great.

But, I think you did do everything, Shelly. :-) Just one post next time, please and thank you.

I also hope that everything is going well for you, Shelly.

Week 1 - 8/31/12
Item: Bed
Ruby Red (Edelstein Trilogie, #1) by Kerstin Gier
Read:
Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier
Finished it on: September 3, 2012
Rating:descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription

Review:
I really enjoy this book, the time travel aspect especially. Gwyneth was a very likable character and so was her friend Lesley. Gideon at first seemed to be a bit of a jerk, but my opinion of him improved as the story continued. The ending definitely makes me want to read the next book in the series.

Items Collected
Person - Celebrity: Queen Elizabeth II (page 227)
Place - Famous Landmark: The sun shone on Big Ben ... (page 298)
Thing - Bed: ...even wanting to sleep in my bed at night. (page 55)
Color - Yellow: I looked at a pale yellow dress with white lace trim hanging on a coat stand... (page 155)

Also in the book
People: child, healer, couple, single male, single female
Place: metropolitan area, road (if street counts), mountains/cliff
Thing: blood, wheel, wing, bag, stairs, smoke
Color: red, blue, white, black, green

Alyssa (lyssad87) I finished The Goddess Test (Goddess Test, #1) by Aimee Carter on 9/2/12 for the bed item.

Read: The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: This was a re-read for me. I just picked up the second book a little bit ago, and I wanted to re-read this one to refresh my memory. It was still good. There was some stuff going on and I totally forgot who was doing it, so it was like reading it the first time.

I also thought it was an interesting twist on Greek Mythology. I wonder what myths and people they might mention in the next book.

I'll probably read the next one soon to see what happens next.

Items Collected
Thing - Bed: "...he tore his eyes away from the lifeless body on the bed..." (pg7)
Person - Celebrity: "He's Hades, God of the Underworld. Ruler of the dead." (pg52)
Place - Famous Landmark: "Instead I was lying on a blanket in the middle of Central Park..." (pg86) (If Central Park doesn't work for Famous Landmark, I can pick a different item. Just let me know, Dawn.)
Color - Purple: "...each holding a cupcake. Chocolate with purple frosting, I remembered..." (pg 190)

And.... in case anyone is wanting to use this book later... I also found...

- Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, White, Green
- Healer, Warrior, Couple, Single Male, Single Female, Non-human
- Blood, Wheel, Wing, Bag, Stairs
- Open space, Metropolitan area, Shoreline, Road, Forest

message 78: by Megan L (last edited Sep 04, 2012 04:40AM) (new)

Megan L Harnett I finished my book yesterday!

Read: In Bed With A Highlander by Maya Banks

Rating: 4 stars

Review: This book was a good book and a fun story. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that the book was too quick for the main characters to actually fall in love. Also even though the bad guy was quite evil, he needed to be a little more evil to play the proper villian!

Items Collected
Thing: Bed. In Bed With A Highlander
Color: Green. " It was rich with green brocade and velvet with...." page 103
People: Child. "The child crouched and looked around..." page 6
Place: Forest. "They raced across the terrain, heading for the distant cover of the forest." page 321

Well that was fun! Ready for week 2!

Items:
People: Couple - the main characters form a couple
Places: Metropolitan area - the action is set in Paris
Things: BED - he could sleep into my bed tonight page 150
Colours: Purple - you could see my purple monday panties page 225

message 80: by Ana (new)

Ana one question: the celebrity was to be a character in the book or is it enough just to be mentioned?

message 81: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1 comments READ:Moonshine by Rob Thurman

FINISHED: Sept 4/12

RATING: 4.5 ★

REVIEW: This is the second in the Cal Leandros series. About two brothers who are Gypsies. One brother - Cal is part Auphe, a type of elf and not the Christmas type. This is dark urban fantasy at its best. The writing detail is awesome. What I really love is that this book is written by a female. She decided to use a male name because she felt that she wasnt taken seriously as an author for this genre.

The two brothers decided to do bodyguard and detective work in New York City. There are all kinds of strange scary creatures in this book. There is the comical Puck - Robin Goodfellow - who has been around since the dawn of time and is one over sexed supernatural being. There is a psychic George who is the love interest of Cal. Then there is Promise a sexy vampire who has hooked up with Cal's bro Niko. Niko is a vegetarian, Meditating, history major. The character development is so good. There is depth to them and you can really connect with them and their escapades.

ITEMS COLLECTED
THING: BED p.136. He sat cross legged on the BED, a serene statue repeatedly tossing & catching his knife so quickly that it was a silver pinwheel, spinning in the air before him.

PEOPLE: HEALER p.3 First Niko had stabbed me and then a HEALER friend had stopped my heart.

PLACES: FOREST p.21 Robin Goodfellow, the Pan, the Puck, the everything else rumored to be lurking in the FOREST seducing virgins, conning innocent travelers and hitting every orgy Rome had ever spawned.

COLOUR: ORANGE p.7 I buried the muzzle of the Glock under a vulpine chin and blew off the top of its curly ORANGE head.

Alyssa (lyssad87) Great work, everyone! Here's an updated LIST of what everyone earned this week.

Getting excited for the next item?

What's everyone been reading while waiting for the next item?

Me? I felt the need to read some more of the sexy Psy-Changeling books. I read Mine to Possess (Psy-Changeling, #4) by Nalini Singh in a couple of days. When I was finished, I couldn't stop there. So, I've started Hostage to Pleasure (Psy-Changeling, #5) by Nalini Singh . I'm going to have to take a break after that though, cuz I don't have the next one. :-(

message 97: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) I will read Twelve Red Herrings for green

message 98: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1 comments Dawn

Will you accept this cover for green. If so i will be able to use it for 3 challenges.

Chihuahua of the Baskervilles by Esri Allbritten

message 99: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Zina
The rules state If using as a cover 50% of the cover should be the color, and shades of the color will work.

It looks like less than 50% green to me. It is close. If you can't find the word green in the book I might be able to be convinced but my gut reaction is no.

message 100: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1 comments thanks for the clarification Dawn....I have to read so maybe there will be green in the story....
