Lauren (laurenjberman) That was so sweet and wonderful of him!
I love my Kindle and take it everywhere too. I love having dozens and dozens of books a button push away.

I'm the odd man out, I don't have a kindle but I do have a Kobo Vox which is the equivelent to a Kindle Fire and I love mine! The really nice thing is since they did a software update I'm able to get the kindle app and the sony reader app on my Kobo now So I can pretty much buy books form anywhere and read them on the one device, Awesome!!

message 257: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Thanks ladies. :) My hubby is really sweet. :)

It's so light that I know I'll be carrying it everywhere with me. It will probably take me a little time to get used to (I think for organization, I prefer the iPad) but the learning curve is not so much that it will be too bad. :)

message 258: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments Wow Kat sounds like the Kobo Vox is awesome.
I never thought I could give up paperbacks, but I love both my kindles and only occasionally pick up a paperback.

message 259: by [deleted user] (new)

I love it! I never ever leave home with out it and now with all the great apps I can get on it, it's like carrying an entire library with me all the time:)It's a great little device :)

message 260: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I love my iPad. If it weren't because of the weight and the fact that there have been an increase of thefts of Apple products in the subway (and I don't want to risk somebody pushing me in the tracks to steal my iPad!), I'd have been happy to use it as my main reading device. I'll probably still use it to read at home though.

message 261: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I'm like you D.G. I read on my iPad at home and have apps for Kindle, Kobo, DieselBooks and also use iBooks and the Bluefire Reader on it. I use my Kindle when I'm out and about.

message 262: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Oh yeah...I have similar apps: iBooks is my main one (it's easier for me to organize the books I have there), then I have Bluefire, Kindle and Nook on it.

message 263: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments I really would like to have an ipad. I should get my husband one for Christmas and then frequently borrow it.

message 264: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I want to read Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changeling, #7) by Nalini Singh next week. Hopefully, it will fit on whichever shelf is called.

message 265: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments It fits a good chunk of the shelves but not the ones we need to get 4 in a row. :)

message 266: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I didn't think of that :0(

message 267: by D.G. (last edited Jul 12, 2012 01:26PM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Well, if we don't get 4-in a row, then hopefully we get a shelf you can use for that!

Primal Law (Alpha Pack #1) by J.D. Tyler

Shelf for July 8th:Shifters
Book Chosen:Primal Law ~ J.D. Tyler
Date Read:July 12th 2012
Rating:5♥♥♥♥♥
Review:I Loved this Book! and seriously what is not to love about a book filled with hot alpha males! Although the story line wasn't overly original form what is already out there for shifter books, the characters and the creatures written about totally make up for the lack of originality.

Jax and Kira's story was explosive and I'm not just talking about what took place in the bedroom(fan's one self) there was always plenty of action taking place and I loved the banter between the main charaters and the other team members and characters in the book.

This was a great way to start the series and it left just enough room at the end to keep me on the edge of my seat as to what is going to happen in later installments, Over all a really fun and fast read.

message 270: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments Captain Hussy 8 o'clock is pretty much my bedtime, I usually get up around 3:30am. lol.

Kat glad you loved your book. I am going to ad it to my TBR list.

message 271: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Thanks for the review Kat. I have it on my TBR and now I'm going to move it up.

3.30am is really early Jackie. Is it because of your job?

message 272: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments My library has that one in ebook form so I'll definitely check it out!

I usually go to bed at 9-10pm (I'm a wimp who needs her sleep) but all this week I've gone to bed at 11am and I've been so tired! I'm really looking forward to the weekend.

I love my weekends off when sleeping in until 9am is heavenly.

message 274: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) That's harsh.
I love my sleep and it is really difficult for me to get up at 5am on the one day a week I have to be at work early.
After hearing about your 3am wake-up call, I feel guilty complaining about it, lol!

Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh

Title/Author:
Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh
Read for shelf: shifters
Date finished: Jul 14
Rating: ★★★½
Review: I'm torn about the rating for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the development of the conflict among the Psy and how they are dealing with the fracture of Silence. This overall arc is moving along really exciting paths, specially now that the 3 races (Psy, Changeling & Human) are looking to each other not as enemies but as necessary to each others well being. But certain groups will not take this fundamental change in ideology without a fight, even if what they are fighting for has been proven to flawed. Just like a lot of conflicts in human history.

The parts that had me scratching my head pertained to Adria & Riaz. I didn't feel any connection to them and didn't like how their problems were solved. There were just too many plot holes that didn't mesh with what we previously knew about the whole mating business.

I understand why the author played with the circumstances to create a different "tangle" but it really didn't work for me. However, the book was worth the read because the aforementioned race strife.

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater ★★★★★
SHELF: 'Shifters'
READ: 7/14/12

This is the second book in The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, the story of Sam and Grace and the werewolves pack continues.
Linger concentrates to Grace's struggle with the wolf inside of her and fighting for her life. Sam has managed to stay human and is now forced to look helplessly as Grace struggles with her illness instead of being happy together and carefree.
The sadness and beauty of the first book is also present here but somehow this book was so different from the first. Maybe because everything is changing so fast and the characters are faced with new struggles instead of having time to enjoy after they have solved pervious problems.
The book was really very fast paced and the rapid change of POV-s made it sometimes hard to follow but it didn't take away the intensity or made the story less engaging.
I can say, that after reading Linger, I remain a true fan of this series and will read the last book of Sam's and Grace's story very soon.

Looking forward to the new shelf as well. Hopefully it will be kind to us and we will get 4 in a row. Wouldn't mind reading a Demons book.

I will read Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #6) by Kresley Cole

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments I will read Shadowland (The Mediator, #1) by Meg Cabot for a ghosts shelf.

message 291: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments For the ghosts shelf I'm reading Don't Die, Dragonfly (The Seer, #1) by Linda Joy Singleton .

I started another book Ghost Shadow (Bone Island Trilogy, #1) by Heather Graham but in the first few chapters the heroine acted in such a TSTL way (going by herself at 4am to a house where a dead body had been found) that I just DNFed right then and there.

Lauren (laurenjberman) You're not missing out on anything special with Ghost Shadow D.G.

Actually, the only thing that I enjoyed about it was the hilarious wisecracking ghost who made the book somewhat readable although not very.

Way to go, all Sultries! I'm really proud of our team.

It's constant rain and thunderstorms here for the third day in a row now and I miss the summer and warmth of CA. Maybe in August ...

But this awful weather gives me more time to read and I have one book to finish, then it's on to the ghosts-book this evening. Already looking forward to it!

Don't Die, Dragonfly by Linda Joy Singleton

Date finished: Jul 15
Rating: ★★★½
Review: I really enjoyed this book. There are some similarities to the Soul Screamers series but the world made more sense to me. The heroine was a bit judgmental at times but I liked how the plot centered around teenage issues (relationships, self-esteem, etc.) The only supernatural elements dealt with some of the characters, not with the conflict.

The end was a bit cliffhangerish but I didn't mind. In any case, it really made me want to continue the series.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #6) by Kresley Cole

Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole
Shelf: Ghosts
Finished: July 16
4.5 Stars

Synopsis
Sabine, the Queen of Illusions, lures Rydstrom Woede, deposed King of the Rage Demons to her lair in order to seduce him and produce an heir. Not only does Rydstrom plan to escape but is also determined to claim Sabine as his own. Can these too unlikely lovers overcome the obstacles in their past and defeat the sinister foe standing in the way of their predestined future?

Review
Rydstrom's scene at the end of Dark Desires After Dusk had me salivating to read this one and I wasn't disappointed.

Rydstrom is seriously smokin' and I wouldn't mind keeping him in my dungeon (if I had one). Nevertheless, he is not only a pretty face but honest and honorable, fierce and lusty.

Sabine grew on me like a fungus. Even though she classifies herself as evil, I saw her as a powerful woman willing to do anything to survive. Yes, she is immoral, ruthless, manipulative and untrustworthy but she has her reasons and she is never intentionally cruel or vicious (unless keeping a man sexually frustrated is considered cruel and unusual punishment - he didn't seem to mind too much...).

Sabine and Rydstrom are a perfect, if ironic, match and their clash of wills and battle for dominance is very entertaining (theirs is definitely the most erotic romance so far). Moreover, their journey toward mutual acceptance and a deep emotional connection makes this an excellent addition to the series.

The writing is wonderful as usual and the story within a story prologue establishes the darker tone and atmosphere that characterizes the book as well as providing insight into Sabine's nature. The secondary characters are very compelling, especially Lanthe and Thronos (there's another book in there) and Lothaire - there are no words to describe how much he intrigues me.

Couple of nitpicks - the dungeon scenes are too drawn out and although Omort's demise is satisfying, it is too rushed and a little anti-climactic given all the build up of the war in previous books.

Overall, two thumbs up!
