Well, I wouldn't say I grew up with it, it hasn't ever snowed here in Sydney, the closest we've ever come to snow is lots of big hail. LOL

I first saw snow when I was 12 and I went to the snowfields down south once when I was 18, and had fun *wiggles eyebrows*

Vi | 943 comments Good Evening, folks! My shortlist:

Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4) by Jim Butcher The House on Tradd Street (Tradd Street, #1) by Karen White Four and Twenty Blackbirds (Eden Moore, #1) by Cherie Priest The Woman in Black by Susan Hill The Native Star (The Native Star, #1) by M.K. Hobson

message 453: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Nothing is really jumping off the shelf saying "read me"... Short list so far:

Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher Underground (Greywalker, #3) by Kat Richardson Nightingale's Lament (Nightside, #3) by Simon R. Green Dying Bites (The Bloodhound Files, #1) by D.D. Barant Demons Not Included (Night Tracker, #1) by Cheyenne McCray Water Bound (Sisters of the Heart, #1) by Christine Feehan . And this always seems like a chunker Obsidian Butterfly (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #9) by Laurell K. Hamilton

message 454: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I know, right? I went through at least 15 pages before giving up. I soo didn't want this shelf. How's the Nightside series? I've wanted to start that series but I've got too many series on-going right now.

message 455: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments It's ok, pure UF. It's a little weird with the parallel London that he visits to solve his mysteries and all the odd characters like the supernatural mobsters and a guy that has his "collection" of unique items in a warehouse on the moon.

It's probably between him and Butcher, but I haven't seemed to fall in love with them yet like everyone else has.

message 456: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Went back at the shelf again and on page 18 found Chill Factor (Weather Warden, #3) by Rachel Caine so I'm giving it a spin for this weeks shelf.

message 457: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Lis, that 18th page is a winner! I found The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins , Shades of Grey (Shades of Grey, #1) by Jasper Fforde in that page. Now, it's between the above two and Butcher. All 3 books will work for my challenge. I just have to make a choice.

As an aside: Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb is shelved as paranormal mystery. Huh, WHY?

message 458: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 150 comments Im going to read hunger games!

message 459: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Hunger Games is a good choice and you can see the movie in just a couple more weeks too.

message 460: by Dawn (last edited Mar 10, 2012 08:38PM) (new)

Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments Lis thats the short list? lol I take it Raziel (The Fallen, #1) by Kristina Douglas wasn't one to ponder?

its between Ghost of a Chance (Karma Marx, #1) by Kate Marsh which also fulfills a challenge or Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones which is an audio.

message 461: by Lis (last edited Mar 10, 2012 09:26PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments I'm thinking of saving Raziel (The Fallen, #1) by Kristina Douglas for the angel shelf since I'm all caught up on the Nalini Singh books. I need to get back after the weather warden series and finish it. But I guess we could ponder Raziel (The Fallen, #1) by Kristina Douglas some more... Heather (heathermb) | 132 comments Finished: Blood Dreams
Shelf: Paranormal-Mystery
Date: 3/11
Rating: ★★★

Review: I liked this book, I really did, but at the same time there was just something missing in it. It was a quick read and I feel as though the reader is more told what happens than shown. It didn't feel as though Dani and Marc had their relationship evolve properly, again the reader is basically just told that it did. I suppose I was rather annoyed when, near the beginning, it was said that Marc was NOT psychic and then he just WAS, but whatever. My favorite character was by far Hollis, maybe because she's been in several of the previous books and is always changing. Plus you've gotta love her nine lives.

message 464: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments LMAO, Lis!!

Way to go, Heather!! That was super fast.

message 465: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yay Heather!

message 466: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments How is everyone doing with their reads so far?

message 467: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Over half way... Little distracted with spring fever here and beautiful weather. Took kids and went with family up on a hill in a big field and flew kites. Perfect weather, perfect breeze, and we had about a dozen colorful critters dancing in the wind.

Back to the book... I hate it when I get distracted from a good series and am glad I've stumbled back on the weather warden books.

Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments Haven't started trying to finish another read but between it being so nice and my last minute clients not getting a lot read. Oh well it was a beautiful day and I got to enjoy it!

message 469: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 150 comments I just started Hunger games today. Its good so far!

message 470: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I just started Shades of Grey (Shades of Grey, #1) by Jasper Fforde earlier today. I tell you, the author is a weird dude. It's a dystopia where people are divided based on the colors they can see. There are lot of terminologies and weird stuff that I can't understand immediately. The world building is happening slowly over the pages. I hope to finish before the next shelf is called!

OTOH, this and I, Robot by Isaac Asimov are not a good combo to read together.

message 471: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Lis, I really enjoyed the Weather Warden series. I read the whole series in a week, I think.

Dawn, enjoy the weather! My RL is picking up too. Don't think I'll have any reading time tomorrow. :(

Jennifer, I have to read the Hunger Games too. Hopefully, before the movie comes out.

Lis | 4037 comments Finished:Chill Factor by Rachel Caine
Shelf: Paranormal Mystery
Read: 3/13/12
Rating: ★★★★

Review: I forget how much I enjoy Weather Warden Joanne and all her snarky butt-kicking attitude. Of course she has to save the day again... This time she heads to sin city Vegas to stop the djinn stealing brat Kevin from destroying the world. Unfortunately she is solo on the first part of the trip but is soon joined by the rest of her usual gang. The problem is knowing exactly who's on her side and helping and who's got their own hidden agenda. Lots of action and poor Jo gets pretty banged up, but it's an exciting ride for a gal with a Dodge Viper named Mona.

message 473: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 150 comments Finished- The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins
Date- March 14th, 2012
Rating- five stars
Review- This book was great! It definitely lived up to the hype. Every year 24 kids from 12-18 are picked to fight in an arena to the death. There are two from each district, a boy and a girl. Its kind of like a punishment. I dont want to spoil it, but Katniss Everdeen ends up going. Boy, is it an adventure. This book has it all: romance, death, fights, suspense, and lots of drama.

message 474: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yay Jennifer... And I'm glad you liked the Hunger Games. I did a re-listen last week to get ready for the movie. Of course I went on thru and listened to Catching Fire and now on Mockingjay... This series is so good and I'm not usually a YA fan.

Vi | 943 comments Finished: Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde
Shelf: Paranormal Mystery
Read: 15/3/12
Rating: ★★★★ 1/2
Review: SoG is set in the dystopian world of Chromatocia where the society is divided based on the colors people can see. The highest are the Purples and the lowest are the Grey who can see no color. Fforde writes such interesting, inventive (and weird) fiction. Inititally, the book was hard to get into. The new world, new weird terms (Something That Happened - the apocalypse that happened, youknow - Sex etc) and new weird things. After about 20% in, it started picking up. Partly romance, it also has the main protagonists fighting against the totalitarian society. The book is denoted in the first person narration and Edward is such a good narrator. We learn new things as he learn and fall for people as he does. I'm so glad I finally read the book. I really can't wait for the next book!!

message 479: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Thanks, Lis! :)

Ladies, I'll be out the whole day on Sunday. I might have time to check the shelf but probably not for reading. I hope the shelf called won't lead to a BINGO. I'll get back in touch on Sunday night :)

Have a great weekend!!

message 480: by Lis (last edited Mar 16, 2012 04:44PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments The only Bingo possibilities is if the Angels or Post-Apocolyptic shelves are called...
I warned y'all it will happen in 3 weekends when I will be out of town.

I hope you are getting to do something fun!

message 481: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I'm hoping those aren't the two shelves called. In my world, the bingo will happen the week after we get 4-in-a-row ;)

I'm going with some friends to the Universal Studios here in Singapore. I love the rides - so a day of rides, fun (and waiting) is predicted for Sunday.

Vi | 943 comments Thanks, ladies :D

Wow, shelf announcement was early today.

I just had a quick check - Team 12 get another 4-in-a-row with magic. Team 10 get their first 4 in a row as well. Both of them can win if they get 2011. Team 12 can win if they get PA as well.

Jennifer | 150 comments I'm reading storm born!

message 490: by Lis (last edited Mar 17, 2012 08:07PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Is it just me or is this the largest selection ever?? I'm struggling, so I will probably go with Windfall (Weather Warden, #4) by Rachel Caine . I was looking for Oracle's Moon (Elder Races, #4) by Thea Harrison or Spellbound Falls (Spellbound Falls #1) by Janet Chapman but probably didnt go far enough to find it.

message 491: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Lis, OM and SF are definitely on the shelf.

message 492: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I just combed through the first few pages of the shelf. There were sooooo many choices. So here's my shortlist:

Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4) by Jim Butcher Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins

I'll be reading either one of these.

message 493: by Lis (last edited Mar 18, 2012 07:55AM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yay Sandra... Thx. So now I'm down to Spellbound Falls (Spellbound Falls #1) by Janet Chapman and I saw someone else found The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams which I've been wanting to read too.

Not reading, just pondering... Saving for angel shelf... Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments Finished: Ghost of a Chance
Shelf: Paranormal mystery
Date: 3.17
Rating: 2.5 stars

Not a big fan of this book. There were parts that were good and had the promise of being an interesting who-dun-it but fell flat. The storyline felt choppy and didnt connect with any of the characters. Probably why it took me do long to read it.

message 495: by Dawn (last edited Mar 18, 2012 09:52AM) (new)

Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments I'm pretty sure I will be reading The Mage in Black although I do have Industrial Magic also sitting in the pile next to the bed.

Lis really liked The Shadow Reader and it's on the to be continued series list...which is getting longer and longer cuz I keep on picking up new series. Now it's off to lie in bed for me as I drank way too much wine last night.

message 496: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermb) | 132 comments Finished: Holy Smokes
Shelf: Magic
Read: 3/18
Rating: ★★★★

Review: Each of the books in the Aisling Grey series was laugh-out-loud experience and the fourth book was no exception. Her clueless-ness is endearing in a way that makes you not want to shake HER, but rather all the people around her that assume she knows things no one will tell her about. While I love her character, I think it will be good to get a different perspective of the dragons in the Silver Dragon series.

message 497: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments LOL, Lis! But the angels shelf is a no-no. So we are (sadly) hoping it won't call even though pondering is very much welcome :P

Yay, Dawn!! Now we can get the Paranormal Mystery stamp.

Way to go, Heather! You're fast. I haven't even started my book.
