Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Magic Slays is an amazing book though.

Alyssa have you read the first two in the Fever series? How are you not shaking from withdrawal shock? I had to move on to Faefever the moment I finished Bloodfever.

Vi | 943 comments Oh I hated the first book. I hated "Pink Mac". I gave it 2 stars. I started liking the series only from book #3. So, you should give it another chance, Sandra :)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Well, thanks for the help everyone!

After much thought, I decided to go with Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning .
1. Because it's been a while since I read the last Fever book, so I wanted to get into it again.
2. I just Magic Bleeds recently. And I know Magic Slays will be amazing, so I'm going to save it for a little bit, in case I need it.

Review
This is a decent start to a series. Solid world building and interesting charcters are introduced. It is a very sexy book - shockingly sex almost. But for me, something kept it from being great. I did not connect with the heroine and I almost didn't care what happened. I enjoyed her interactions with Kiyo and Dorian and then her interactions with her imprisoned spirits, those were the highlights for me. I listened to the audio and the narration is decent.

I may just be all Meaded out as I just finished the Georgina Kincaid and Vampire Academy series. I do like how she pushes boundaries with her female characters. Mead's adult female characters are not chaste and have no regrets about that.

Review: I loved it! Soo happy for John and Xhex. Squee!
Some lesser butt was kicked like usual. Very exciting.
Saw a little bit more of Payne. Can't wait to read her book next. She could be pretty cool.

I finally am able to get back to my favorite series shelf book Sacrificial Magic. I should have both Soulless and Sacrificial Magic done by Tuesday. I had so many netgalley deadlines I had to work around!

Kitty's House of Horrors (Kitty Norville, #7) by Carrie Vaughn
Shelf: demons
Finished 3/4
4★

In this installment, Kitty and some of her past acquaintances are thrown together in a Montana mountain lodge for a reality tv show. When some of the participants start dying, Kitty tries to figure out who is behind the whole thing. Kitty is her usual charming self but there is very little of Ben, outside of Cormac's parole hearing, or the pack in this one. There is plenty of action and twists even though the ending is kind of predictable. I love this series and look forward to Kitty Goes to War.

Review:
I am so mixed on my rating for this book but I think I will settle on 3.5 stars. The narration is fabulous and deserves a full five stars. Emily Gray performs the various voices convincingly – men and women from various countries and with multiple styles of accents. The jokes, inner monologue observations and one liners are hilarious. These are all delivered in a manner that subtlety makes fun of the prim and proper rules of the Victorian era. The humor drives the story, carries the story and also deserves five stars. The world building is interesting, not intricate or complex but it is interesting. For me the weakest part of the book is the storyline and the characters. Not that I didn’t like the characters, they are just not fully developed; their portrayal is more akin to a tv show, which is not a bad thing. I think it is purposeful. The storyline is enjoyable but I was not on the edge of my seat nor did I care too much about what was happening, I was more interested in Alexia’s - -the main character – jokes and thoughts. And well, there is a romance – between a prim and proper “spinster” who is 25 year old and a strong brash Scottish werewolf who is centuries old. The romance was not original, but it had some very amusing scenes (typically involving a naked werewolf in human form).

Alexia is a funny character. She is the child of a proper British lady and an Italian lothario. Apparently, Alexia bears the mark of her father in that she has a strong nose and “tan” skin. Due to these characteristics combined with a highly assertive personality, Alexia was put on the “shelf” at the age of 15 and not permitted to be presented to society. Her family treats her like a non-servant Cinderella and she sees herself as they do – unattractive due to her Italian characteristics and overbearing. These short-comings from society’s point of view made Alexia interesting and refreshing to read about.

So where does that leave a person trying to decide if they want to read this book? Honestly, I am not sure but here are my thoughts:

1. Do you enjoy books primarily driven by romance ?
2. Do you enjoy jokes and musings about naked men?
3. Do you think that Scottish men are the sexiest men alive?
4. Do you enjoy rewritings of the Cinderella tale?

If your answer is Yes to any combination of 1, 2 or 3 then I suggest you read this book and read it soon. If your answered No to 1, 2 and 3 or you answered Yes or No to 4, then I have some further thoughts to ponder (really #4 has no determination at all on this highly scientific process, I just threw it in):

5. Does the Victorian era fascinate you? And if it does, can you have a good time poking fun at this time period?
6. Do you enjoy books that make you laugh out loud?
7. Can a fabulous narration job make a book for you?

If you answered Yes to both 5 and 6 (even if you did not answer yes to 1-4), then I say give this book a try! If you answered Yes to 7 in any combination with all of the questions, then try the audio if you can get it from your library.

So there you have it! I am glad I listened to this book, if I find myself without an audio book or if there is a fabulous audible sale that includes #2 in this series then I will move on and listen to #2.

A hard time picking one, or getting into the one you're trying to read right now?

No worries. I don't think we're anywhere near a point where we need to quickly finish anything. If you have another shelf you need to read for, you could pass on the demon book for now.

Hope you find something. :-)

Hmmm... Well good luck.

I'm struggling with Faefever... No! Don't panic! It's good. I just don't have any freakin' time to read it. Just snippets here are there. I'm getting frustrated. Stupid school. It's spring break next week, but do I get a break? No! I have a ton of homework to do for the next week and I'm working more hours cuz someone can't work for the next few weeks. Ugh.... I hope to finish Faefever this weekend though. It's my goal anyways.

Downside Ghosts is one of my favorite series and with Sacrificial Magic, Stacia Kane has taken it to an entirely new level. This book has some truly sad and painful parts, but there are good parts and hopeful developments. Chess shows her magic abilities and is throrughouly impressive. I cannot wait for Chasing Magic (Downside Ghosts, #5) by Stacia Kane I think it is a great sign that Chess is smiling on the front cover.

I am officially on spring break. Whee! Somebody break out the margaritas! ....Or not. I basically have a ton of homework to do and I have some more hours at work than normal. Blech. But, after work tomorrow morning, I have the rest of the weekend for me time, and I'm going to finish reading Faefever if it's the last thing I do.
