Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments 13 more shelves to be called
11 of those are winning shelves; 4 could be ours. 31% percent chance that one of those 4 would be called. 85% that one of the 11 will be called next week ending this round of Bingo. 15% chance of Bingo not ending next week.
The 2 that are not winning shelves: UF and Sci-Fi Romance

Lina 5 stars Lady Jaye! That's my favourite so far as well.

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Finished with Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor (Goodreads Author Shelf) on 4/14. I gave it 5★s

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I have seen this book so much, around town and here, I thought I would give it a try when I saw it was available at my library.
I thought the writing just flowed and the characters were easy to like.
This is about a human girl named Karou, she has naturally blue hair, she is an art student in Prague and she is/was raised by and group of chimaeras. She has always felt like there is a piece of herself that was "missing". Chimaeras are a race that has both human and animal body parts (head and torso of a man, horns and legs like a wolf or opposite ... stuff like that). They are from a world called Eret (I hope that is close) where they have been at war with the other race of their world, the Serephims (angels). A Serephim named Akira is one of 3 that are sent to eliminate all the portals that the chimaeras are using to pass from their world to ours, Earth. Akira ends up getting into a fight with Karou when he sees her going to his enemies house. After the fight he comes back to find her, to find out way a human girl is with the chimaera and he also fells like she is familiar to him. The books goes on with Karou trying to find a way to Eret to see if her family is ok, why Akira seems familiar to her too, and trying to find out what she is "missing" of herself. While, Akira tries to help her, he is also trying to fit the pieces together as to who she really is. The author ends up revealing in the end of the book why Karou felt she was "missing" a part of herself and why Akira felt that Karou was familiar to him .... it is pretty good. I will be reading the next book.

message 412: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments I like shifters and vamps the best (mood dependent). Either Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs (this would be a re-read for me) or Burn the Night (Dark Days, #6) by Jocelynn Drake (leaning towards this one so I can finish out the series)

message 413: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi Ladies. Sorry about the delay. I'll finish late tonight and post the review sometime tomorrow. I started a new job this week and everything has been crazy.

I like shifters the best, and werewolves the best of them, so I'll be reading Timeless (Parasol Protectorate, #5) by Gail Carriger . Curran is also one of my favorite shifters, so I might reread Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews in honor of his total awesomeness.

message 414: by Lina (new)

Lina ok, this is probably a stupid question, but what's a SUPE?

message 415: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments A supernatural being ie vamps, shifters, angels, zombies etc.

message 416: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments I finished Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill .. I give it ★★★★. Merit grew on me and by the end I liked her quite a bit. I didn't like many of the side characters though. Mallory is annoying. I really, really enjoyed the story. BUT I am not sure I will continue reading the series. I know about the stunt the author pulled n book 4, and I am not up to dealing with that tomfoolery. It's her story and she can do whatever she wants with it, but I don't like getting invested in books and relationships and then have the author pull a 'bait-and-switch' me, no ma'am. So erm...jury's out on the series. Might wait till it's completely over, red the last book, and see if i want to go back and read the series properly.

message 417: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Finished Burn the Night (Dark Days, #6) by Jocelynn Drake 4/15/12 5* for Fave Supe shelf
Where do I begin? Almost too much happening in this one. At first, the switch back and forth in first person narration was distracting, but I decided I liked it for the insight into Nyx. I think it added to the story. Nyx is an interesting and intriguing character. The ending felt a little rushed, but I decided on 5 stars anyway. I think this is the best one in this series and it did end on a high note. It kept me entertained from the first page. Lots of open ended story lines. Spinoff in the future? (view spoiler)
A favorite scene: Mira and Danaus strip fighting!

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I finished Blameless (Parasol Protectorate, #3) by Gail Carriger for Goodreads Author on 4/14/12 and gave it ★★★ 1/2

In this installment, Alexia flees to Italy to find answers about her unexpected expectancy, Lord Maccon acts like a complete jackass, Professor Lyall cleans up the mess, Lord Akeldama disappears, and Biffy makes a surprise transformation. I really enjoy the witty aspects of Carriger's books. What was very much lacking here was Lord Akeldama, and his absence proved to me that he is indeed my favorite character in this series. It bugged me that Alexia kept referring to her baby as "infant-inconvenience." I do realize that her attitude was true to character but it still bugged me. Overall, however, there is no doubt that I will read the next installment.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Audrey, when you add another sentence or two to your review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor I will request our stamp for Goodreads Author.

Oh my the next shelf announcement will be nerve-wracking!!
Rachel, thank you for the stats! This is really coming down to the wire.

I don't know what I'll read for Favorite Supe. I really like vamps, but I'm not really in the mood for a vamp book right now. I put Heartless (The Parasol Protectorate, #4) by Gail Carriger on hold and should get it in a couple of days. I could also read Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (Immortals After Dark, #4) by Kresley Cole , or re-read one of the Sookie books.

Audrey (view spoiler).

I don't wanna get all invested and then have to read that. There's a reason I read fantasy - it's called escapism, NOT 'mirroring-what-happens-in-real-life.'
:/ - but all my GR friends say it's not as bad as that, esp if you're already aware of it, so I might still read on before the series ends :)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I am reading The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice for the Fave Supe Shelf (Werewolf). I like both Vamps and Werewolves, but I went with Werewolves.

I will save Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger for the New2You Author Shelf or New2You Series Shelf. I have several books that will fit on the Angels Shelf waiting to be read and now I need to look for a book to have ready for the Post-apocalyptic Shelf. I think I have all my bases covered in case one our winning shelves are called Sat.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I love Anne Rice. Let me know how you like it (reviews aren't that good :-( )

message 437: by Audrey (last edited Apr 19, 2012 12:19PM) (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Wow sandy I didn't even read the reviews. They normally don't stop me if I really want to read something, though. :0)
I do agree with some things, like Reuben (a little annoying, but not all bad) and a sex scene that I don't care reading about (hoping there will be mo more of that), but I, personally, am liking the book. There is a mystery about Felix Nideck and his close knit of friends that I hope will come to light. That is the main thing I am wanting to find out. I have more to say, but I will wait to put it in my review. SHOOT ... this could be my review. LOL

OOOOO ... let me know how about Lover Reborn. I am dying to get it. I do love me some hot, sexy Brothers! Who is this about? I can't seem to remember ... that is horrible of me. :0(

message 438: by Lady Jaye (last edited Apr 21, 2012 09:01AM) (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Audrey, my friends told me that too, so I'll read on and see - reserving the right to blame themif everything goes wrong, hehe.

I finished Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews for the favorite supe shelf today 21/04. I give it ★★★★★ huge fat fabulous stars. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this series. I love Kate, and I adore Curran to bits. Erra is my favorite villain in the series and I will cry buckets when this series ends and demand a new series with Kate and Curran's babies. Everything about the book/series works for me. Kate is strong but has her very obvious faults; so does Curran; so does everyone. The storytelling is marvellous.....I could go on and on. Ilona Andrews is the gold standard of UF for me, and this is one of my favorite books by them. Very few books can come near to or top this one in awesomeness and epicness both. Maybe in one category, but not both.

I am really loving Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward ! Much better than the previous installment. This one is about Tohrment. Not sure how many of the BDB books you've read. Ok, Sandy, I will write a review. I am still read, but at the end of the book. My answers are going to be revealed. LOL :)
