Finished Lothaire (Immortals After Dark, #12) by Kresley Cole 2/11 4*
I was worried about this series after the last book that I didn't care for. Kresley Cole has an ability to make readers root for her Alpha men. Anyone else and I probably would have thrown the book across the room. Lothaire starts out as vain and jealous (shocker) and improves (slowly). The ending makes me want the next book NOW!

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments I was worried about this shelf, but I'm going to chose Frostbitten (Women of the Otherworld, #10) by Kelley Armstrong or You're the One That I Haunt (Nicki Styx, #3) by Terri Garey or Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine ...so many choices

message 109: by Lady Jaye (last edited Feb 11, 2012 03:42PM) (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Okay. i am either going to read Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane or Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins or Claimed By Shadow (Cassandra Palmer, #2) by Karen Chance ...

after i finish my free space pick

message 110: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Lol!, Rachel we both have three choices.

message 111: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Nice selections. I will have to get back to you on this one.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Oooh, this is a tough one!

message 113: by Lina (new)

Lina It's the middle fo a very hot day here and I'm about to take the kids to the pool. Will have a proper look through the shelf and will let you know my choice later tonight when the kids are asleep :-)

message 114: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Does the books have to part of series?

I am thinking about: The Presence by Heather Graham or Don of the Dead (Pepper Martin #1) by Casey Daniels .

message 115: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I believe stand-alone books are fine.

message 116: by Audrey (last edited Feb 12, 2012 12:43PM) (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I changed my mind. I am going to read: Evernight (Evernight, #1) by Claudia Gray . I don't know what it is about, but it was on the "Ghost" shelf. I checked it out from the library and I need to read it anyway.

message 117: by Lina (new)

Lina So far I'm considering one of these:
Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts , Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs , The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton or Shadow Game (GhostWalkers, #1) by Christine Feehan

message 118: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments LKH's book is not bad, CaroB. Nor Shadow Game. But I think bone Crossed is the best of the three. Haven't read the nora roberts

message 119: by Lina (new)

Lina Thanks Lady Jaye. That's the one I'm leaning towards!

message 120: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I've read Midnight Bayou & liked it. I have the Feehan in a pile next to my bed but I can't bring myself to read it since Dark Prince bored me so badly.

message 121: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) The NR book I really liked. I like both PB and LKH. I haven't read CF. It seems like you can't go wrong. :-)

message 122: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I will read Practical Magic.

message 123: by Lina (new)

Lina Ok, I'll be starting Midnight Bayou.

message 124: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments CaroB, the NR book is really good. :)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hey ladies, so I finished my free space read Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher yesterday. I give it ★★★★ because enjoyed it way more than the second book. The mystery is confusing, as there's a whole backstory that happens off-screen, but still, it was a fun ride. I'll be reading the fourth book soon.

message 126: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) CaroB I think you like it.

YAY Lady Jaye! Congrats!

message 127: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I'm having trouble with the html codes that link to our reviews in post #34. I suspect it's because my home computer is having issues. I will fix it tomorrow at work.

message 128: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I am glad you are doing it. LOL
I have no idea how to link one post to another post.

message 129: by Lina (new)

Lina Thanks for all the feedback, ladies. I've only just started the NR one and already it's sucked me in!

message 130: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Glad you're enjoying it, CaroB!

ok, Made a decision for Ghosts, I will be reading Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane . I will start on Wednesday or Thursday.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I finished my Free Space pick, This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost . I'm not sure if I just wasn't in the right mood (actually I've been sick), or I'm just burned out on Cat and Bones, but I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous 4. Also, Frost created a spin-off series with the secondary characters in between books 4 and 5, so I felt like I had missed a lot. I did like the New Orleans scenes with Marie Leveau...made me want to read Anne Rice again. Great line: "Lucifer's bloody ballsack!" ★★★

message 133: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Haha, Sandy, that's a great line.

message 134: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) This one of the series I have on my "to-read" self. Is the series worth reading ... just this book was a little slow?

message 135: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I would definitely say it's worth reading. I think my mood (not to mention stomach flu) had a lot to do with my enjoyment of book 5.

message 136: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) 2 of my 3 kids have been sick too .... I almost have them all well again. I hope that you fell better Sandy! I know how those stomach viruses can be .... NASTY! I will diffidently read the series when I can get to it.

message 137: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Yep, my son had it, then I had it twice! My husband and daughter have been lucky so far.

message 138: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments I'm visiting family in Indiana right now, so my reading will be a bit slow until next week. My mom, niece, and brother-in-law are all sick (stomach flu). It seems like a lot of people have had it this year.

message 139: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Get better!

message 141: by Audrey (new)

message 144: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) We'll try! LOL

message 145: by Audrey (last edited Feb 16, 2012 06:16PM) (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I am done with Evernight (Evernight, #1) by Claudia Gray ... 2/16 ★★★★☆

I honestly have no idea why this was on the "ghost" self, unless later in the series a ghost comes into play. I kind-of feel like I cheated and need to read real ghost book. LOL

The book started out a little slow, but pick up toward the end of the book. I like the concept of Evernight Academy being a school for vampires that look young enough to pass as high school students. The school is designed for old vampires that look young to learn about and catch up with the "modern" world they are living in. All the teachers are as vampires. Every year vampires enroll and continue through out the centuries. Bianca Olivier is a very rare "born" vampire. Both of her parents are old vampires that conceived after about 350 years. Bianca herself in not a full vampire yet. Her parents took teaching jobs at the Academy for Bianca to be around other vampires. That is all I will revel. You will have to read the book. LOL

message 146: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments I'm about 15% of the way through Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane ...and I am confused. Are ghosts corporeal? incorporeal? it's hard to tel from how they're described. and the druggies street lingo is so annoying and completely foolish. :/

message 147: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) You got me girl! I have not a clue. All I know is the the main female character is a druggie for a reason. I haven't read it yet. Good luck ... maybe it will get easier to understand further into the book.

message 148: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I have finished my Ghosts selection, Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman . I saw the movie long ago and remembered basically nothing about it, so I was able to read the book with fresh eyes. It is very well written and has a great story about 3 sets of sisters from 3 different generations who have supernatural powers. There was no actual ghost in the story, however an evil spirit did seem to be causing bad things to happen so I suppose that's why it was shelved as "ghosts" for some readers. I recall that some reviewers have accused Sarah Addison Allen ripping off this book in her Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen . I can "kinda sorta" understand the criticism, but they are entirely different stories with certain similar elements. At any rate I enjoyed them both very much! ★★★★

message 149: by Lina (last edited Feb 18, 2012 09:25PM) (new)

Lina Finished Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts Feb 17th. ★★★★. I always love Ms Roberts' standalones, her storytelling is effortless. This one was no exception. The romance was lovely, the main characters likeable and honest, and the haunted house scared me when I was reading this at bedtime.
