Book:

Rating: ★★★★★
This installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood saga focuses on Torhment and how he copes with the unbearable loss of his shellan, Wellsie and their unborn son. The book also has John Matthew and Xhex fighting over her right to fight with the Brothers while he wants her to stay out of danger. Well-written, emotional and engaging, this installment was much better than the previous offering,

This book started out with Ruben Golding going to the beautiful mansion on the coast of Northern California to write an article, for the owner, about it so she could try to sell it. Marchent Nideck inherited the mansion after her Uncle Felix who went missing 20 years ago never to be found and declared dead by the courts. There was an attack that night leaving Marchent dead, at the hands of her jealous, druggie brothers, the brothers dead at the hands or fangs (haha) of a mysterious animal and Ruben almost dead from the stab wounds from brothers and bite from the mysterious animal, which we later find out was a mistake.
Ruben is hospitalized and recovers from the stab wound and bite in an amazingly short time that baffles the whole medical staff. He starts to go throug changes, both physical and internal, that he has to learn to deal with. While he was in the hospital he was told that Marchent willed him the house (right before she was killed) because she didn't want the brothers to have it (they would sell everything for drugs), there was not other living relatives and she knew he loved the house. He also had the opportunity to buy all the positions in the house, which Uncle Felix had acquired from all of his archaeological dig (rare items) and all of Uncle Felix's personal items. The house and Uncle Felix is full of mysteries that keeps you wanting to find them out. What happened to Felix and his group of friends? Were they still alive and if so, why didn't Felix ever return home?
Ruben goes though the book dealing with his changes, wishing that there was someone to explain all those things to him, looking for clues about Felix and his friend, finding mysteries about the house and falling in love with Laura, who he met as a "Man Wolf" (stupid name - Ruben called himself that) and had sex with her as a "Man Wolf" (GROSS!) the first time he saw her. As the book goes on the mysteries are revealed about both the house and Felix and his friends, which was what I was waiting on.
Even though Ruben could be annoying at time and there were 3 or 4 "Man Wolf" sex scenes that I could have lived without and would have been better off without, it was a pretty good book. The origin of the Morphenkind (werewolf) was original and I love Anne Rice's books. So, despite all the negative reviews I decided to read it and for most part enjoyed it. The "most part" is because I felt like it could have been shortened. I felt like it was dragged out to much.

I think once there is a winner we don't need to do anything else. Team 15 won (at least it appears so).
