And yet another cliffhanger by Ms Moning. Man, she really loves to torture. I liked this one a teeny tiny bit less than the other two, because there were quite big spans of time were...nothing happens. The end of the book was friggin' awesome again, so it's still 5 stars. I'm glad I have part four on my shelf, so I can start reading it immediately!

My sympathies to all the families and friends. Are your children hiding in their rooms? I think I would be :(

My sympathies to all the families and friends. Are your children hiding in their rooms? I think I would be :("
I know really!!!

It was pretty good actually despite my complaining. I think it was maybe the world building, and I really personally like the sun, growing up in OC California, soooo I was bothered by being drained of energy in the light except the moon. The story was pretty good. The customs of these people I pictured as arabic belly dancers (some princess dances for her brother this way), and I just didn't like the setting. Soooo while I was reading I changed up what I pictured, and made it light, and solved my problem. I figure it's a book, I'm reading it, I get the visual, WTH why can't I scramble my brain picture up and do what I want... It's not like they are using outdated vocab or anything that won't go away! LOL!!
The synopsis: Ashla wakes up from a car crash in shadowscape. opposite world minus all the people dark moon & no sun. She can shop - just grab and go, get on a plane etc. but sees no people. In the opposite world what she takes disappears, or if there is broken glass and blood, there is in the opposite sunny side with its own explanation. The only people she can see are other shadowdwellers. She meets Trace, some big hottie high up guy in this cool shadowland (LOL!) and she saves/heals him.
People try to kill them several times and they go back to his church like land of shadow people in the dark & unravel whats happening... All ends well, but you figure out the bad guy a few chapters before the end. I will read more of this series. It was good (with my fake light)it's an original idea and apparently if you read the other series there is a pop in character who is supposed to be funny. I however had not read the other series so it just... was. I just want to know WHYYY does everyone end up pregnant! (Umm not a spoiler...HEA and all)

Still no winner yet! Mr. R isn't ready for the game to stop, I guess.
Happy Reading!

For this shelf, I'll be reading CROSSROADS by Jeanne C. Stein after I finish Bloodlines.

In her own way Gin is a very principled person. They may not be the accepted morals of the upright members of society (Or is that uptight? Bye-bye Donovan), but she does have rules that she holds herself to and expects others to hold to also. That's how she lands in a mess in this book. When Gin finds out that her previous actions have caused some dangerous problems for an aquaintance, she immediately steps up and accepts responsibility for fixing the problem. It's inconvenient and will place her in danger, but it's still her fault and she's determined to make things right. Gin's also extremely loyal to those she considers "family". Estep has created and interestingly complex character in Gin.
I'm also excited by the possibilites in Gin's growing relationship with Owen. He accepts her for who she is and seems to be more compatible than Donovan was. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go.
I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

I'm reading

This was a very simple fast story telling with little graphic detail book. It reminded me of a cross between Lynsay Sands & Christine Warren (when she was good). Different class totally from say... J.R. Ward. You get my drift.
Sooo this girl Shana is a dentist in new york at an all night dentist office. A man comes in (vampire) with a pulled fang he needs her to fix. The russian mob comes after her because she was a witness to a slaughter. Her vamp rescues her and has her in his protection. If I give any details it spoils the book, because it's so flat. It was a great time filler, & I didn't have to concentrate on many details, so it definitely served its purpose. I will read on.
I am thinking I am going to change how I rate books. If you are an author who writes a certain class of books and you bomb, I will bomb your review (ex: Phury). If you write these simple books and they are fairly well written, you may top out at a 4, because there is no such thing as a simple 5, unless I stay up all night just to see whats next. NOT many. Even if their book is not as good as the lame Phury book, it will get more stars... Class people. Class. LOL!!

Thanks! I'm glad! I noticed one person who is rating books by how much she wants to read them. Even books that havent come out yet. I wish there was an automation that you can't rate the books until it's marked 'read'... How can you give a 3 star to a book you haven't read, and it effects ratings when you go back to see if it was nay good when it finally comes out. Oh well!

LOL! :D

Nightfall starts out with a bang when Mason kidnaps Jenna to protect her from the power grid collapse because of a promise he made to her father. When a group of strangers trying to escape the madness show up on the doorstep of their safe house, Jenna takes it upon herself to help them against Mason's wishes forcing the group to head out into the demon dog infested woods seeking additional supplies and shelter. Another stranger is discovered trying to send out a radio signal and the group heads his way for shelter. They are in a fight for their lives as they encounter all kinds of craziness in their quest for survival.
The world-building is fantastic and the technology failure aspect is unique and not that far-fetched considering how technology dependent our world is today. The story is action packed and full of supsense that kept me turning the pages. I loved how the romance between Jenna and Mason evolved as they finally learned to trust each other. I also enjoyed seeing each person's reaction to the situation and how that eventually led this group of misfits to band together in order to survive. One of my favorite secondary characters was Tru, a troubled 15 year old punk kid who turned into an unlikely hero. Penny was a pretty interesting character too and I can't wait to read her and Tru's story in the third book, Daybreak.
Nightfall is quite the thrill ride and a recommended read. I will definitely be reading the next book, Midnight.

I finished Second Grave on the Left last night and loved it! I'll be back later with my review.

Frost's style makes for a fun read and the action moves along quickly. Two things lowered this from a four star read.
I'm going to address the love triangle first. Why, oh why, do writers go down this road? Tammy Jo's unique relationship with her ex-husband created quite enough tension and humor all by itself. Zach's good ol' boy charm made him loveable, while his unwillingness to believe Tammy Jo about ghosts (and the good ol' boy attitude that accompanied that charm) made it impossible for her to live with him. If Frost ultimately intends him to be the main focus of the relationship, then it wasn't necessary to make Bryn Lyons so sexy, helpful and attractive to Tammy Jo. Tweaking Bryn's personality just a bit more toward arrogance or dourness would have created more tension on the teacher/student front.
On the other hand, let's say Bryn is the other half of the intended relationship. Tammy Jo's already been warned to avoid all contact with the Lyons family. Not knowing how dire the consequences of even her minimal interactions with him, the tension could escalate as she grew more attracted to him. Especially if she remains unsure of his motivations. No need for a romantic third in the form of the ex-husband. Zach would still have been interesting as a disbelieving sheriff, regardless of his relationship with Tammy Jo.
The other thing that bothered me? Sure Tammy Jo grew up in small town Texas with unusual caregivers. But, there's a fine line to tread when trying to portray naivete humorously. A couple of her internal dialogues over misunderstand words/phrases were funny. But there were a few that made her seem too simple. Has she been locked in the house for the last 50 years with no access to any media of any kind?
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I'll be moving on to the next one.

Great follow up to Dead Girls Are Easy, but it didn't quite live up to the first book. Nicki's relationship with Joe hits a rough patch when Kelly, her unmet twin sister and his ex-wife, comes back in the picture. She's understandably uncomfortable with the entire situation, but Nicki's behavior makes her seem insecure and childish at times. All things considered, Joe has more reason for insecurity than she does. Uneasy ghosts, a vindictive spirit and more long lost relatives make the plot interesting. The real winner here is the appearance of the devil in an all too tempting form. I'm not quite sure why it took so long for me to read the second book in this series, but I will definitely be on the lookout for book three soon.
